JEFFERSON — Committal services for George R. Danforth, who passed away March 13, 2004, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, under the direction of the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

During regular church services on Sunday, May 23, at the Jefferson Methodist Church, there will be a ceremony to dedicate the new pew cushions in his memory.

Dorothy VanKleeck

HOBART — Committal services for Dorothy VanKleeck, who passed away Jan. 1, 2004, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, in Valley View Cemetery, Rose's Brook, South Kortright.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Roger E. All

WORCESTER — A committal service for Roger E. All, who died on Dec. 15, 2003, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester with the Rev. Beverly Furey officiating and the Worcester Grange No. 1274 participating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

William E. Ward

BAINBRIDGE — Committal services for William Edgar Ward of Bainbridge will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. Mr. Ward passed away Dec. 14, 2003.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Charles Gardner

SIDNEY — Committal services for Charles Gardner, of 76 Pearl St., Sidney, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. Mr. Gardner passed away Jan. 26, 2004.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

George Liddle

NORFOLK, Va. — George Liddle, 87, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Norfolk, Va.

He was born in Andes, son of Oliver Jackson Liddle and Elsie Gregory Liddle.

George graduated from Hilton Memorial High School in 1935. He was a WWII veteran. In 1942, he left for basic training in the United States Army and later served mostly in New Guinea for three years. In his early days, he may be remembered as a seller of meats in partnership with Arch Glendening. He also worked at the Andes Victory Market.

He married Jeanette Kelly of Halcottsville on Aug. 24, 1947.

George and his brother Floyd worked for, and later purchased, Crawford Brothers Feed Store in the building that was formerly the Andes Town Hall. He then became sole owner and ran Liddle Bros. store until 1996.

He was well known in the area. One of his favorite pastimes was reminiscing, either around the old store stove or anywhere he found a friend.

George was very involved in community services. He was a 50-year member of the Andes Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and a member of the James D. Calhoun Legion Post of the Veterans of Foreign War in Delhi. Mr. Liddle was also a former member of the Andes Fire Department, member of the Andes Society for History and Culture, as well as the Andes Chamber of Commerce, Andes Community Club and United Presbyterian Church Forum Society. For many years, he served as president of the Andes Cemetery Association, secretary-treasurer, and later, president of Andes Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He also was a director in Mid Rox Insurance Company.

George is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his son, John M. Liddle, and his wife, Sharon, of Norfolk, Va.; sisters, Marjorie Drew, of Hamden, and Martha Blish of Margaretville; three brothers, Gilbert Liddle, Floyd Liddle and his wife, Aasta, and Richard Liddle and his wife, Ann, all of Andes, a brother-in-law, Stanley Reed, of Andes; along with several nieces and nephews. George is also survived by his four grandchildren, Joshua George Scott Liddle, Elijah John Liddle, Thomas Jackson Liddle and Katia Alexis Liddle, all of Norfolk, Va.

He is predeceased by a son, George Robert (Bobby) Liddle; and two sisters, Mary Gabriel and Virginia Reed.

A memorial service will be held at the family's convenience.

Memorials may be given to either the Andes Presbyterian Church or the Andes Cemetery, or one of your choosing, if so desired.

W. Ricks Littell

MADISON, N.J. — W. Ricks Littell, 81, of Madison, N.J., died Thursday morning, May 13, 2004, at King James Care Center in Chatham, N.J., following a long illness.

He was born on May 7, 1923, in Cooperstown, the son of Walter Ricks and Sara E. (Lippitt) Littell. He married Eileen Reeves on July 17, 1949, in the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown.

Raised in Cooperstown, Mr. Littell graduated from Cooperstown High School with the Class of 1940. He then attended Wesleyan University (his father's alma mater) in Middletown, Conn., before entering the United States Army in 1943. Following his service as a Staff Sergeant during World War II, he returned to Wesleyan University, graduating in 1948.

In 1949, he joined the New York Telephone Company and was employed in a series of management positions, most recently as vice president of personnel and labor relations, retiring 1979. During his career he was also employed by Michigan Bell and AT&T.

Mr. Littell belonged to the United Methodist Church and also served on the board of the Madison Housing Authority, the Colonial Symphony in Madison and the Visiting Nurse Association of Morristown.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eileen, of Madison. N.J.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Mary Ann Littell and Christopher and Marilyn Littell; and seven grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Ernestine Barwick.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown with the Rev. Lin R. Quinlan, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Squad, 29 Prospect St., Madison, NJ 07940 or the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Bernard R. Reed

ONEONTA — Bernard R. Reed, died peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2004, with his family by his side at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta.

"Bunny" Reed was born July 8, 1917, in Great Neck, the fifth and youngest child of Daniel Reed of Great Neck and Anna (Clancy) Reed of Ballinaglera, Ireland.

He attended St. Aloysius Elementary schools and Great Neck High School where he played football. He also played semi-professional baseball with the Great Neck Swamp Angels in the 1930s.

He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in Miami, Fla.

He worked as an inspector for the Nassau County Department of Weights and Measures and was active in the Nassau County Republican Committee.

In 1950, he married Constance Irene Collins of Verona. After his retirement in 1976, he and his wife made a home here and in Tucson, Ariz.

Bernard is survived by his beloved wife, Constance; a daughter, Celia Reed and her husband, Keith Bott, of Oneonta; grandchildren Dillon and Margaret Bott; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernie was admired as a person of principle and loved for his great sense of fun and humor.

A gathering, to which friends are invited, will be held on Thursday, May 20, at the Grummons Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, Pastor of St. Mary's, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hanford Mills Museum, East Meredith.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta.

Kenneth A. Smith

ONEONTA — Kenneth A. "No Neck" Smith, 60, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born on Jan. 30, 1944, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Floyd and Helen (Ray) Smith.

He married Connie Alger Aug. 9, 1964, in Oneonta.

Kenneth served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968.

He was a self-employed mason in Dade County, Fla. For the last 10 years, he lived in Georgia.

Kenneth was an avid wildlife and sports fan; especially football. During his younger years, he played fullback for the Oneonta High School and the Oneonta Indians.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Smith, and her companion Don Bliss, of Madison; a son, Kenneth Smith and wife, Tina, of Oneonta; a daughter, Amy Fancher and husband, Harold, of New Berlin; a brother, Barrett Smith and wife, Kay, of California; three grandchildren, Kenny Smith, of Oneonta and Ashley and Brittni Fancher, of New Berlin; a great-granddaughter, Keona Rose Courtright, of New Berlin; his longtime companion, June Fanaro, of Georgia and her son, James Fanaro, of Florida and daughter, Pat Youngman, of Georgia; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best friend, Mellow.

He was predeceased by his father, Floyd.

The family thanks Hospice for all of their wonderful care and compassion.

Calling hours will be Saturday, May 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

There will be no funeral service.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Kenneth to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Patricia Ann Reed

WESTFORD — Mrs. Patricia Ann Reed, 63, passed away Monday, May 17, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born May 27, 1940, in Ft. Plain, the daughter of Karl and Mae T. (Mullen) Bronk.

She married Herbert Reed in Cooperstown in 1984. He predeceased her in 2003.

She was a 1958 graduate of Fort Plain High School and a 1961 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing as an RN. She worked as a receptionist for Jennings Insurance Agency in Cooperstown.

Her hobbies included golf, gardening, crafts, and she loved animals.

Survivors include daughters, Louise (LuAn) Rand of Amsterdam, Kelly Wicenciuk of Westford; stepchildren, David Reed of Moretown, Vt., Martha and her husband, Greg Shamus, of Lakewood, Colo., Sue Reed of Shelburne, Mass., Doug and his wife, Michelle Reed, of Moretown, Vt., Betsey and her husband, Bill Freeland of Springfield; grandchildren, Joshua and Erica Liebing, stepgrandchildren, Samantha and Alison Reed, Robert, Michael, Cory Freeland; sister-in-law, Janet Bronk; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.

Contributions in Mrs. Reed's memory may be made to the Humane Society.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Funeral and burial services will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Frank C. Druse

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — A graveside committal service, with military honors, for Frank C. Druse Sr., 83, who passed away on Feb. 10, 2004, will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. in Springfield Center Cemetery.

The Rev. John Dixon Bartle, Rector of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, will officiate. Everyone is invited to attend.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Alexander L. More

NEW HARTFORD — Graveside committal services for Alexander L. More, who died Feb. 29, 2004, in Norwich, will be held on Friday, May 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Lola A. Curran

WESTFORD — Lola Ann Moseman Curran, 50, of Westford, went to rest on Monday, May 17, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born Nov. 11, 1953, in Margaretville.

Lola married Rex Curran on July 11, 1970.

She is survived her husband, Rex Edwin Curran; their children, Belinda and husband, Ronnie Harrington, of Worcester, Doraine K. Curran of Oneonta, and Elaine K. Curran of Westford; three grandchildren, Kayla and Patrick Fling Jr. and Tyrell Kirby. She is also survived by extended daughters, Cathy and Charlie Mould and Nina Effner; her sisters, Linda Aubry and Ernie Foster of Schenevus and Laurel and Randall Curran of Worcester, her brothers, Shannon and Shirley Moseman of East Meredith and Len and Brenda Haynes of Oneonta and all their families; stepfather, Leonard Haynes; as well as many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Gladys (Moshier) Moseman.

Lola loved baking, dancing, helping others, body work on cars, her grandchildren and her many close friends. She was full of energy and spirit.

There will be a celebration of Lola's life 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, at Randall and Laurel Curran's home, 1094 West Hill Rd., Worcester.

The committal will be announced at the celebration of life.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Loretta A. Caronia

DENVER — Loretta Adele Caronia, 73, of Denver died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville.

She was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Brooklyn to Theresa (Tessie) Prantera and John Aievoli.

She married Vito John Caronia on April 15, 1950.

Loretta was a licensed beautician. She owned beauty salons and taught at Wilfred Academy of Staten Island.

She earned a bachelor's degree and became a registered nurse in 1970. She worked at hospitals, the Manhattan Post Office and the board of education for PS176. She retired in 1996. She enjoyed knitting and cooking.

Loretta was a member of the Red Hatters Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post 21 and was president of the Senior Citizens Council of Delaware County in 2003.

She had been coming to the area for 50 years and made this her permanent residence five years ago.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Vito John Caronia; two sons, John V. (Debra) Caronia, James (Maria) Caronia, a daughter, Loretta (Bruce) Barone; seven grandchildren, Richard and Kristen Barone, Lauren, James, Vincent, Dakota and Zachary Caronia; a sister, Dolores Aievoli, and brother, John Aievoli.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 21, from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Margaretville with the Very Rev. James McDevitt, celebrant.

Burial will be in Bedell Cemetery, Fleischmanns.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Marjorie D. Potter

BUFFALO — Marjorie D. Potter, 91, a former resident of Buffalo and most recently of Oneonta, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Buffalo, the daughter of John and Alberta (Michener) Dohn. She married George Potter on Sept. 17, 1932, and he predeceased her on May 30, 1990.

For a period of 15 years, retiring in 1975, Mrs. Potter worked as a library aid for the Kenmore East High School.

She was a member of the Kenmore United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, the Rev. Judith L. Quarles of Oneonta, and Linda P. Acredolo, and her husband, Larry Stark, of Woodland, Calif.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service to celebrate the life of Marjorie D. Potter will be held on Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m. in the Kenmore United Methodist Church, Delaware and Landers Road, Kenmore.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Society Endowment Fund, 16 Ford Ave., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Charles H. Costine

PITTSFIELD — A memorial service for Charles H. Costine, 67, who passed away Jan. 13, 2004, in New Jersey, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. A pig roast and covered dish will follow.
