William W. Woodley, 84, died Friday October 17, 2008 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville.
He was born in Gloversville on February 2, 1924 the son of the late Harold F. and Thelma (Goines) Woodley Sr.
William graduated from Gloversville High School. He enlisted in the Navy and served his country during WWII.
He was formerly employed by various leather factories in Fulton County and General Electric. From 1959-1966 he served as a Police Officer for the City of Gloversville. He worked at Tryon in Johnstown as a Youth Division Aide until his retirement.
William was an active member of the community. He was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic War Veterans, the Retired Police Benevolence Association and the 55+ Club.
William enjoyed the Fall season. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He loved telling stories, playing cards and was especially known for being "ruthless" in pinochle.
William married his childhood sweetheart, the former Edna June Ellis on October 26, 1946. Together they shared fifty-two years of marriage until her death on July 19, 1998.
Survivors include his four chidren: William E. Woodley (Melanie) of Petersburgh, NY, June A. "Sissy" Belton (Thomas) of Springfield, MA, Carol Kelly (Timothy) of Liberty, NY and Pearl L. McSwain (Donald) of Sarasota, FL; a sister Daurel "Fuzzy" Harmon (Charles) of Cincinnati, OH; ten grandchildren: William E. Woodley Jr., Travis Woodley, Madison Woodley, Patrick, Derrick and Nicholas Kelly, Allyce Belton, Thomas Belton Jr., Kiah, and Kiona McSwain; three great-grandchildren: William E. Woodley III, Mikhai Woodley and Reese Kelly and several nieces, nephews and cousins from the Saratoga area.
He was predeceased by a brother "Doc" Harold F. Woodley Jr. and a sister Thelma "Tinker" Mitchell.
Calling hours will be Wednesday October 22, 2008 from 10am to 12noon from Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A prayer service will follow at 12:15 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Kenneth Swain at 1pm Wednesday from St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville. Burial will follow with full military honors in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown.
Donations in William's memory may be made to the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, 99 East State St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Violet H. Hulbert
Born in Gloversville, NY on Oct. 20, 1915

Mrs. Violet H. Fischer Hulbert, age 92, died Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility in Gloversville, where she was a resident for the past three years.

She was born October 20, 1915 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Daniel and Hattie Groshans Fischer. A graduate of Gloversville, she lived in Gloversville and Johnstown all of her life. Violet was employed at Grand Union, McSherry's and the Mohican markets. She also worked for Loblaws at both their Gloversville and Amsterdam locations.

Mrs. Hulbert was a member of Nick Stoner Senior Citizens Club and the Fifty Plus Senior Citizens Club of Johnstown. She was a life member of the Sir William Johnson Fire Dept. She delivered Meals on Wheels in the Johnstown area. Her pride and joy was knitting and crocheting, and she taught knitting, crocheting and tatting at both the Gloversville and Johnstown Senior Citizen Centers.

Violet was married July 18, 1936 to Kenneth W. Hulbert who died December 21, 1991. She is survived by six children: Warren Hulbert (Myrna), Gary Hulbert , Sr. (Nancy), Douglas Hulbert, Sr. (Nancy), Donna L. Hayes (James, Sr.) and Leland Hulbert (Billie Kae) all of Johnstown and Randy Hulbert, Sr. (Dr. Sharon) of Sprakers; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved her pet Chihuahua "Chrissy" who also survives. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Delbert, Donald, Leon, Harold and Kenneth Fischer.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Kobuskie - Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a memorial prayer service will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Deacon Richard Solar officiating. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Nick Stoner Senior Citizens Club, P.O. Box 11, Caroga Lake, NY 12032.

Paul L. Yorks
Born in Gloversville, NY on Sep. 17, 1945
At Rest Jan. 31, 2009 and resided in Gloversville, NY.

Mr. Paul L. Yorks, age 63 of Gloversville, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born September 17, 1945 in Gloversville, the son of the late Algy and Iona Dutcher Yorks. Over the years he has worked at Iva Knitting Mill, Vail Mills Drive-In Theater, Pan American Leather, Karg Brothers Inc; Adirondack Outdoor Ventures (currently called the Adirondack Center) and Perrone Leather.

Paul loved to watch NASCAR and attending races at Fonda Speedway.

He was married on September 2, 1967 to the former Ruth M. Frye who survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Barbie J. Lockwood (Bob) of Johnstown; four brothers, Raymond Yorks (Elsie) of Florida, Robert Yorks (Mary) of Wells, NY and also Vermont, Albert Yorks (Bonnie) of Johnstown and Dale Yorks of Mayfield; two grandsons, Robert Lockwood and James Lockwood; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.

Laura K. Peters
Born in Gloversville on Nov. 15, 1921

Laura K. Peters, 33 Kingsboro Avenue, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009. She was born in Gloversville on November 15, 1921. She was the daughter of James and Lucy Heakcock Kelly. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1940 and attended Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Peters became a secretary and worked at the former Trust Company, for Bernie Logan, two assemblymen in the Albany legislature and the law firm of Robins and Cole in Hartford, CT. She also worked at General Electric Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Schenectady and on the Gloversville election board.
She was a member of the former Gloversville-Johnstown United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served on the board of the YWCA. Mrs. Peters was a member of the Getman Memorial Home Board for many years.
On October 9, 1954, she married Donald F. Peters, who predeceased her. They have two sons: F. David Peters of Alpharetta, GA. and Andrew J. Peters of Goshen, IN. They have five grandsons: Christopher, John, Gregory, Matthew and Daniel.
Family will receive friends Friday, February 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Cynthia Van Allen officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Peters' memory to the Getman Memorial Home, 15 East State Street, Gloversville, 12078; the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 or the YWCA of Fulton Co.

A. Marie Lynch
Born in Johnstown, New York on Oct. 3, 1911

A. Marie Lynch, 97, of Gloversville, passed away February 5, at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility. She was born October 3, 1911 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary DeGaro Russo.
She was educated in Johnstown schools and in earlier years worked as a cashier, bookkeeper and payroll clerk for several area business including S.S. Kresge Co., Trust Company of Fulton County Bank and Mario Papa Glove Co. Marie served as bookkeeper for Sacred Heart Church for 30 years, retiring in 1999.

A devoted member of Sacred Heart Church for many years, she served the parish in various capacities including past president and financial secretary of the Rosary Society, arts and crafts bazaar, card parties and fashion shows.
On July 24, 1946 she married Harry Lynch at St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown, he pre-deceased her in 1970.

She is survived by her brother, John Russo and his wife Mary of Delaware; sisters-in-Law Elizabeth Russo of Rochester and Barbara Russo of Johnstown and several nieces and nephews. Marie was pre-deceased by a sister, Esmerelda Fear, and brothers, Charles, Dominic, James, Edmund, Roland and William Russo and another brother, Charles Russo.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Monday at Sacred Heart Church. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 189 Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville.

John L. Heimer Jr.
Born in Gloversville on May 3, 1925
At Rest Feb. 5, 2009 and resided in Gloversville, NY.

Heimer, John L., 83, of Gloversville passed away Thursday February 5, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on May 3, 1925 to the late John L. Heimer Sr. and Carrie (Mayette) Heimer.
John was educated in the Gloversville Enlarged School District and graduated in 1943. He was a proud WWII Veteran and served in the Navy from 1943 through 1946.
On November 18, 1950 John married the love of his life, Mrs. Harriet (Johnson) Heimer. They shared 58 wonderful years together.
Mr. Heimer was self employed most of his life and owned Heimer's Garage. After his long days at the garage had ended he would look forward to spending some quality time with his loving family. John also was a member of the Empire Statesmen Barber Shop Choir and the American Legion Yellow Jacket Drum and Bugle Corps. John also enjoyed bowling.
John is survived by his wife Harriet (Johnson) Heimer of Gloversville; his son John L. Heimer III (Connie) of Gloversville; two daughters SuAnn Murray and MaryLou Hoag (Jeffrey) both of Gloversville, and one cousin Gloria McClelland of Palatine Bridge.
Additional survivors include six grandchildren John L. Heimer IV (Becky), Stacie Klymkow (Todd), Katie Heimer (Jason), Chad Murray, Jason Hoag, and Christopher Hoag. Three great grandchildren: John L. Heimer V, Kaden Heimer, and Kaylee Klymkow. Let it be known that John's grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Helene Schreiber.
Friends and relatives are invited and may call on Monday February 9, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home; 51 Fremont Street; Gloversville. On Tuesday February 10, 2009 a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville. The Rev. Thomas Morrette will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility; 847 CoHwy 122; Gloversville, NY 12078.
