Mr. Frank J. Clemente, 90, of Gloversville, passed away September 16, 2011 at Mountain Valley Hospice House with his loving family at his side. He was born March 8, 1921 in Gloversville, son of the late Salvatore and Mary Lanzillo Clemente. He was educated in Gloversville schools and a 1939 graduate of Gloversville High School. Mr. Clemente entered the United States Army in 1942 serving at Ft. Sherman and the Panama Canal Zone where he attended Radio Code School until 1942 when he transferred to Ft. Amador where he was Chief Radio Code Instructor for two years. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant on February 14, 1945 and he returned to Gloversville.

Frank worked as assistant manager at the former Supreme market in Gloversville until 1948 when he began his own business, Clemente's Market, on West Fulton Street in Gloversville. He operated there until 1957 when he moved the business to Broad Street in Gloversville, where he remained for twenty years.
In 1977 he became General Manager at the Holiday Theatre in Johnstown, until his retirement in 2000.

Devoted to his family, Frank always looked forward to family gatherings and holiday festivities. He loved watching the New York Yankees with his wife Martha and they traveled a great deal in retirement, especially to Florida in the winter. An avid horse racing fan, Frank was a well respected handicapper and an OTB enthusiast. His memberships include the Church of the Holy Spirit, VFW and former Elk's Lodge member and bowler.
On January 23, 1946 Frank married his long time sweet heart, Martha LaRowe Clemente. Together they shared 64 beautiful years with each other. She pre-deceased him in 2010.

Survivors include his children: Susan Zambri (Charlie) of Gloversville, Mark S. Clemente (Nancy) of Gloversville and Frank M. Clemente (Sally) of Broadalbin. He is also survived by two brothers: Reverend Michael D. Clemente of Schenectady N.Y. and Roy Giuliano of Rochester, N.Y. His loving grandchildren also survive; Lynn Clemente, Charlie Zambri III, Cara Zambri, Brian Clemente and Meghan Clemente, as well as nieces and nephews .Mr.. Clemente was pre-deceased by his daughter, Coreyne Clemente, brothers: Albert, Angelo, Joseph, Salvatore Clemente and sisters; Mary Aufiero, Theresa Gardiner, Esther Clemons, Theresa Cleveland and Mildred Brossoie. Frank was also pre-deceased by a grandson Michael Clemente.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville with his brother, Reverend Michael D. Clemente, as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Sunday September 18, 2011 from 4-7pm at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, N.Y. 12078 or to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville.

Ronald E. Bates
Born in Gloversville on Jun. 2, 1949

Ronald E. Bates, 62, passed away Sunday, September 18 at his residence.
He was born June 2, 1949 in Gloversville, the son of the late George and Alice (LaMont) Bates.
Ronald was employed by the City of Gloversville where he worked as a truck driver for the Sanitation Department.
He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and playing horse shoes. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was quite the comedian. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by many.
Survivors include his fiancée, Wendy Marlitt of Gloversville; one son, Brian Bates (Melanie); two step sons: David Marlitt and Eric Marlitt, all of Gloversville; three daughters: Margaret Williams (Chris), Karen Dingman (Harry) and Brandy Bates, all of Gloversville; step daughter Brittany Chrisman (Vinny) of Gloversville; ten grandchildren; a brother, Richard Bates (Mary) of Mayfield; two sisters: Shirley Cromer (Bob) of Gloversville and Sandy Sibe of Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dog, King.
Ron was predeceased by a son, Ronald Bates, Jr. and two sisters: Patricia Parks and MaryLou King.
Family and friends are invited and may call Thursday, September 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.

Philip V. Catanzaro
Born in Gloversville, NY on May 29, 1921

Mr. Philip V. Catanzaro, age 90, of Gloversville, died Monday, September 18, 2011 at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville.

He was born May 30, 1921 in Gloversville, the son of the late Philip and Mary Evanglista Catanzaro. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School and attended a vocational school in Glens Falls. He later enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was later employed by Sears Roebuck and Company in Gloversville for 32 years as a salesman until his retirement in 1983.

Mr. Catanzaro was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. He enjoyed bowling and golfing in his younger years. He and his late wife, Marie, enjoyed spending time with their family, their memories of the camp on Mayfield Lake and their travels to Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, Switzerland and Italy.

Phil was married on May 29, 1948 to Marie E. Gardiner who died December 2, 2010. He is survived by: two children, Charles M. Catanzaro (Cheryl) and Carol Wintermute (Michael) of Gloversville; four grandchildren, Richard Alkinburgh, Robert Alkinburgh (Katie), Lisa Lavery (C.J.) and Diane Solmo (Joe); three great-grandchildren, Madison, Taylor and Bridgette; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Alvira Norelli and Umbert P. "Bert" Catanzaro.

A private graveside service with Military Honors will take place at the convenience of the family at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. At Phil's request there will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY or to St. Jude's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.

Aleksandra Budnikas
Born in Lithuania

Aleksandra Budnikas of Sun City West, Arizona, and formerly of Perth, New York, joined her late husband Alfonsas in eternal life on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011. She was 93.
Aleksandra was born in Lithuania and migrated to Massachusetts in 1950. After a brief period, she settled her family in Perth. She was a seamstress and worked the family farm with her husband and four children. In 1997, with her husband, she relocated to Kingston, NY. Her husband predeceased her in 2001. In 2005 she moved to Sun City West with her daughter Ilona and son in law Joseph. Flowers were a passion , especially roses, and she enjoyed spending time in the garden. In her later years, a devout Roman Catholic, she kept abreast of church issues and viewed Mass daily on television. Because she constantly carried blue rosary beads, she was known to her great granddaughter and namesake Alexandra as "grandma blue diamonds". She was extremely proud of her highly educated children. Her three sons are doctors and her daughter a teacher. Beloved by each of them, she enjoyed their company and also often communicated with her sister Elena Leavitt.
Her loving family includes her children: Dr. Edward Budnikas and wife Monica of Vestal, N.Y., Dr. Peter Budnikas and his wife Marcia of Williamsburg, Virginia, Dr. Arunas Budnikas of Greenwich, N.Y. and Ilona Spada and her husband Joseph of Sun City West, Arizona. Her sister is Elena Leavitt of Amsterdam, and her niece is Viluna Jennings and her husband Aaron of Russell Center, Ohio. There are four grandchildren: Kristin Baltes, Randy Budnikas, Todd Budnikas, Joseph Spada and six great grandchildren.
A prayer service will take place Saturday September 24th at 1 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery also in Amsterdam. Those who wish may make a contribution in her memory to the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in care of the funeral home office.

Christine M. Nigro
Born in Troy, New York on May 16, 1952

Mrs. Christine M. Nigro, 59, of Gloversville, passed away suddenly on September 21, 2011. She was born in Troy N.Y. on May 16, 1952, a daughter of Bruce and Carolyn Corbett Reid. Mrs. Nigro was a graduate of Averill Park High School and attended classes at Albany University and the College of St. Rose. She continued a deep passion for reading and learning her whole life. Despite a chronic illness, Christine was always a very optimistic person who took great joy in her family and in life's small pleasures. They are devoted members of The Church of the Holy Spirit.

She is survived by her husband Richard A. Nigro of Gloversville whom she married April 7, 1973. Christine is also survived by her children; Michael A, Nigro of Bennington, VT. and Bryan Nigro of Gloversville. She is survived by her parents of Averill Park, a brother Daniel Reid (Brenda) of Postenkill, and a sister Nora Reid-Craven and her husband Wayne Craven of Brunswick, N.Y., nieces and nephews. Christine was pre-deceased by a sister Beth Vonn.

She was the heart and center of our family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Monday September 26, 2011 at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-6 pm at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Reverend Oliver J. Smalls Jr., Holy Redeemer Cathedral Parish, Belize, in C/O the funeral home.
