Samuel E. Hammond, 63, of Van Wert died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born March 25, 1939, in Paulding, the son of the late Lawrence Curt and Edith (Hertle) Hammond. On Oct. 27, 1974, he married Gloria J. Baxter, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Hammond was a retired employee of the former Halls Wastepaper Co. of Van Wert.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Hammond and Zelma Hammond.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home, Capt. Pat Ward and Capt. Linda Ward of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Celina - Peggy J Kohlhorst
Died: Friday, November 1, 2002
Age: 68
Celina - Peggy J. Kohlhorst, 68, of Celina died Friday, November 1, 2002 at 3:35 p.m. at Community Hospital in Coldwater.
She was born on January 11, 1934 in Celina to Frank and Minnie (Green) Kohlhorst.
She is survived by a sister-in-law Anna Lee Kohlhorst, Celina, one nephew Andy (Sandy) Kohlhorst, St. Marys. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank (Jack) Kohlhorst. She was retired from the office of Reynolds and Reynolds, Celina.
Services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
The Rev. Steve Howell will be officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lehman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
PAYNE - Tishie Lee

Age: 73
PAYNE - Tishie Lee, 73, Payne died on Friday, November 1, 2002 at Paulding County Hospital in Paulding at 12:51 a.m.
She was born July 1, 1929 in Williamsburg, KY. to Mat and Nannie (Siler) Partin. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie, in 1999, and a son George in 2002.
She is survived by daughters Brenda Johnson, Payne, Lisa Baker, Payne; sons Curtis Lee and Jamie Lee, Payne and 7 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Slade Funeral Home, Payne, with Pastor Scott Townsend officiating. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., Tuesday at Slade Funeral Home, Payne. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding. Preferred memorials to Payne EMS.
PAULDING - Ellen Rose Davis
Died: Thursday, October 31, 2002
Age: 77
PAULDING - Ellen Rose Davis, 77, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 at 11:05 a.m. at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. She was born in Paulding County, Ohio on September 18, 1925, the daughter of Henry and Anas (Magers) Buerkle.
Her first husband, William D. Messmann was killed in action in WWII in France in 1944. On January 15, 1948 in Bryan, Ohio, she married Richard O. Davis who died on April 26, 1990. She was the manager of the Ohio State Department of Liquor Control for Paulding County.
She is survived by two sons William (Annette) Messmann of Defiance and Marshall (Cheryl) Davis of Paulding; three daughters, Alyce (Richard) Reinhart of Paulding, Kathy (Derf) Landon, Janet (Tim) Miller both of Columbus; sister Beatrice Roberts of Chesaning, MI; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, Joseph and William Buerkle, sister Mary Noggle and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 4, at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at Den Herder Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Monday, November 4 from 8 a.m. until services.
Memorials are to the Paulding County Hospital Home Health Care.
Haviland - Benjamin L Saylor

Age: 16
Haviland - Benjamin L. Saylor, 16, of Haviland died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at the Van Wert County Hospital following a traffic accident near Haviland.
He was born on May 6, 1986 in Paulding and was an 11th-grade student at Wayne Trace High School in Haviland.
He is survived by his parents, Lennis Brent and Cheryl (Ashba) Saylor, one brother Matthew Saylor, U.S. Airforce, Charleston, SC., one sister Michelle Saylor, Grandparents Lennis and Lula Saylor of Payne, Opal Ashba of Woodburn, IN., and a Great-Grandmother, Mary Saylor of Paulding.
Services will be on Monday, November 4 at 2 p.m. at the Payne Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Michael Harper will be officiating.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday, November 3 at Slade Funeral Home in Payne. Burial will be in Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne.
VAN WERT - Adeline F Conn
Died: Tuesday, October 29, 2002
Age: 85
VAN WERT -- Adeline F. Conn, 85, of Van Wert died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at Van Crest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
She was born Feb. 18, 1917 in Lima, the daughter of the late Fred and Minnie (Wilson) Berger. She married Leonard R. Conn, who preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1988.
Mrs. Conn worked for the former F.L.P. Company in Van Wert and also at the Van Wert County Hospital.
Survivors include:
Son -- Russel F. (Marge) Conn of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.
Daughters -- Lynnette Sue Cassari of Lansdale, Penn. and Martha Jean (Leland) Miller of New Haven, Ind.
Nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. Conn; two brothers, Robert and Carl Berger; two sisters, Virginia Gilroy, Francis Sitz; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Leland Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.
Calling hours are from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at the funeral home.
ROCKFORD - James L Farson
Died: Tuesday, October 29, 2002
Age: 79
ROCKFORD -- James L. Farson, 79, of Rockford, formerly of Cincinnati, died at 3:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at the Laurels of Shane Hill where he was a patient.
He was born Jan. 17, 1923 in Norwood.
Mr. Farson worked as a graphic design artist.
He served in the United States Army in World War II.
Survivors included a friend, Dana Smead of Rockford; a son, Scott Matthew (Jean F.) Farson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Cynthia Rigsby of Cincinnati; and a grandson, Nicholas Rigsby of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Dunning.
There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Arrangements were made by Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford.
ROCKFORD - Franklin D Clutter
Died: Monday, October 28, 2002
Age: 69
ROCKFORD - Franklin D. Clutter, 69, of Rockford, died at his residence at 3:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002. He was born April 10, 1933, in Dublin Township in Rockford, the son of the late Samuel A. Clutter and Lela M. McClintock Clutter. On May 31, 1953, he married Lois Elaine Custer, who survives.
He retired from Huffy's Manufacturing in Celina, after 35 years and was also a farmer. He was a member of the Olive Branch Church of God in Rockford and a member of Chapter U of Celina and Chapter N of Lima of GWRRA. He was also a former advisor for the Rockford Thrifty 4-H Club.
Also surviving are three sons, Nathan and Neil D. Clutter, both of Rockford and James (Corrie) Clutter of Rockford; two brothers, Dale (June) Clutter of Rockford, Raymond (Evelyn) Clutter of Celina; two sisters, Jane (Roland) Baker of Florida, June (Myron) Cashel of Van Wert and a brother-in-law Rolland (Carolyn) Custer of Urbana. One grandson, Austin James Clutter, along with several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, the Revs. Steve Waterman and Sam Brewster officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to Olive Branch Church of God or the National Kidney Foundation.
Edward C Uncapher

Age: 75
Edward C. Uncapher, 75, of Van Wert died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital
He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Van Wert, the son of the late Curtis and Margaret E. (Wenzel) Uncapher. On Feb. 24, 1952, he married Wanda C. Johns.
Mr. Uncapher, a 1946 graduate of Van Wert High School, retired in 1984 from Federal Mogul, Van Wert, after 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War, having served in the 27th Wolfhounds Regiment of the 25th Division.
Survivors include:
Sister-in-law - Betty J. Uncapher of Van Wert
Three nephews, Michael Uncapher and James Uncapher, both of Van Wert, and David Uncapher of Lima, and a niece, Cathy Sowers of Van Wert, also survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Eugene Uncapher, and an infant sister, Louise Uncapher.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery, the Rev. Clark W. Williman of Calvary Evangelical Church officiating.
Calling hours are 3-7 p.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home.
Preferred memorial is The Salvation Army.
