Bertha A. Hale 01/22/2006

Bertha A. Hale, age 76, died in the home of her daughter in Manchester, TN on Sunday, January 22, 2006. She was a former resident of Bryans Road, MD and Sparta, TN. She was born on July 24, 1929 in Guernsey, WY to the late Randall J. and Lura D. (Owens) Vaughn Foltz.

Survivors include her children, James L. Marsh of Indian Head, MD, Gary L. Daugherty of Columbus, OH, Elva Jo Daugherty of New Orleans, LA, and Catherine Bryan of Manchester, TN; 8 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn Miller of Bremen, OH.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. Hale, a daughter, Marian Wright Savage, a grandson, Joseph Wright and a brother Randall E. Vaughn.

Friends may call Friday, January 27, 2006 at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington from 9:00-11:00AM where funeral services will follow at 11:00AM. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery.

Robert E. Ebert 01/17/2006

Robert E. Ebert, age 74, of West High St., Mt. Gilead, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Marion General Hospital. He was born December 8, 1931 in Marion to the late Benjamin F. and Pauline B. (Heimlich) Ebert.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Cardington High School. He retired from Eaton Manufacturing where he had worked in the forge shop for 47 years. Also, he had worked for NAPA and drove their parts truck in Marion. Bob attended Boundary United Methodist Church.

Bob was preceded in death by two wives, Mary Burch Ebert who died February 26, 1998 and by Shirley Christian Ebert who died June 1, 2003.

Survivors include his step-mother, Amelia C. Hitchcock Ebert of Mt. Gilead; 5 children, Jerry and Janet Ebert of Cardington, Pamela and Victor Fleming of Mt. Gilead, Dean and Carolyn Ebert of Mt. Gilead, Dale and & Jenny Ebert of Caledonia and Marsha and Jay White of Cardington; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; stepchildren; step-grandchildren; a brother, Harold and Carol Ebert of Cardington and a sister, Frances and Norman Day of Mt. Gilead.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Thursday, January 19, 2006 from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM where the funeral will be held Friday, January 20, 2006 at 11:00AM. Robert Johncox will officiate and burial will follow in Saint John (Windfall) Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Boundary United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

DeGloria Buckingham 01/07/2006

DeGloria Buckingham, age 82, of Waldo died Saturday morning January 7, 2006 at her residence. She was born on February 10, 1923 in Waldo to the late Paul and Leelo (Jones) Augenstein.

On November 14, 1941 in Greenup. KY she married Robert Buckingham and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1988.

DeGloria was a graduate of Waldo High School and went on to become a Beautician and own her own shop. She was a member of the Waldo American Legion Auxiliary Unit #605.

She is survived by a son and his wife Roger and Loretta Buckingham of Waldo; a daughter and her husband Pauletta and Dennis Hudnell of Caledonia; 4 grandchildren Jeff, Jayme, Denise and Lynnette; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers Jack and Peg Augenstein and Keith Augenstein both of Waldo.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington on Tuesday January 10, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 PM where the funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Reverend James Sprague will officiate and burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.

Rochie "Rocky" B. Sparkman 01/05/2006

Rochie "Rocky" B. Sparkman, age 68, of Lore City, OH passed away Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Mt. Carmel-St Ann's Hospital in Columbus after a long illness. He was born in Knott County, KY on December 12, 1937 to the late Frank and Lora J. (Allen) Sparkman.

Rocky had served with the U.S. Army and had worked as a service technician at Sears in Columbus for 28 years.

He married the former Margaret Etgen on June 25, 1960 in Cardington and she survives in Lore City.

Survivors also include three children and their spouses, Frank and Bonnie Sparkman of Columbus, Ava and Daniel Goodall of Canal Winchester and Rochelle and Greg Caudill of Galloway; 5 grandchildren, Heather, Cassandra, Joshua, Stacy and Christopher; three brothers, and six sisters.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Monday, January 9, 2006 from 2-4:00PM and 6-8:00PM. Rosary services will be held at 7:30PM. Funeral Mass will be conducted at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 11:00AM. Father J. Barry Bentz will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery with full military honors.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the American Heart Association.

Ralph E. Heimlich 01/05/2006

Ralph E. Heimlich, age 94, of Ashley Road Cardington, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Heartland of Marion. He was born September 26, 1911 in Waldo, OH to the late John L. and Elnora (Kraner) Heimlich.

Ralph was a lifetime farmer and served as a Richland Township Trustee in Marion County for 16 years. He was also a member of the St. John (Windfall) Lutheran Church.
He was married to the Pauline Heimlich and she preceded him in death in 1963. He was also preceded in death by wives, Ada B. Schorr and Virginia Folgel.

Survivors include 2 sons, LeRoy Heimlich of Caledonia and John and Carolyn Heimlich of Marion; 3 daughters, Lois Heimlich of Cardington, Louise Heimlich of Delaware and Dori Wilde of California; 3grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home Sunday, January 8, 2006 from 4:00-8:00PM. Funeral services will be held Monday January 9, 2006 at 11:00AM at St. John Lutheran Church. Pastor Donald Pletcher will officiate and burial will follow in St John Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Lois A. Kraner 01/01/2006

Lois A. Kraner, age 81, of Claridon-Westfield Rd., Marion died Sunday afternoon Jan. 1, 2006 in the Heartland-Victorian Village Health Care Center in Columbus. She was born Feb. 28, 1924 in Maplewood, OH. to the late Lewis and Lina ( Heintz ) Miller.

Lois was a 1941 graduate of Cardington High School and worked at North Electric in Galion for 15 years. She then worked as a draft person at General Telephone in Marion for 15 years. Lois was a member of the Saint John Lutheran Church.

On Apr. 25, 1943 at St. John Lutheran Church, Lois married Samuel F. Geckle and he preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1987. She then married Paul E. Kraner on June 21, 1989 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waldo and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Lois is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Ned A. and Susan Geckle of Marion, a step-son Cecil Kraner of Columbus, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister Rhetta D. Riggs of Beavercreek.

Lois was predeceased by a brother Robert Miller and a sister Beryl Henkener in addition to her parents and first husband.

Friends may call Friday Jan. 6 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Saint John (Windfall) Lutheran Church with Pastor Donald Pletcher officiating. The burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Windfall Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
