Louis Gene Coberley

Services for Louis Gene Coberley, 70, Sulphur, will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Louis was born February 17, 1945 near Kellyville to the late Andrew Jackson and Henrietta (Baumgardner) Coberley. He died Monday, Aug. 31, in Sulphur. Louis and Janice Wallace were married on March 16, 1984 in Stillwater. Growing up, Louis lived in several towns, due to his father’s job; however, he always considered Sulphur to be home. He served in the U. S. Army in the early 1960’s. Louis spent several years working in the oil field. In 1995, he began working for the Oklahoma School for the Deaf as a custodian, retiring in 2009. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and reading. Survivors include his wife Janice; three daughters, Sandy Coberley and Carrie Coberley, both of Enid and Laura Eaves, Sulphur; four sons, Bobby Coberley, Denver, Colo., Jesse Coberley, Ponca City, Tirrell Coberley, Sulphur and Paul Coberley, Ada; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Berryhill, Keystone and Janet Greene, Ardmore; four brothers, Wayne Coberley, Moore, Dennis Coberley, Woodward, Neil Coberley, Sulphur and Steve Coberley, Sulphur and numerous
nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vickie Lee Coberley; son, Joshua Coberley and an infant brother, Billy Ray Coberley.

Bobby Doyle Sanford, II

Graveside services for Bobby Doyle Sanford, II, 63, Stigler, will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur with Dr. Terry Tramel officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Bobby was born in Woodward to Bob and Maxine Sanford on August 26, 1952. He died Wednesday, August 26, in Oklahoma City. He attended grade school in Bristow, but made many new and life-long friends after moving to Stigler in 1966. Bobby had a lust for life and enjoyed playing bass drum in the
high school band and bass guitar in his rock band, The Daze and Nites. He also liked being a lifeguard at the Arrowhead pool, riding his motorcycle there with his hair blowing in the breeze. He was always interested in the arts, and was voted the “Most Talented” his senior year at Stigler High School. His love for art took him to Southeastern State University in Durant, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in Art and Psychology. While at SOSU he made many enduring friendships, including his “brother” Mark Ambler and others in the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. After earning his degree, Bobby became an art teacher in Hugo. It was there he met his future wife, Amanda. They had a fun existence and ultimately moved to Norman then Oklahoma City. In 1995 they were blessed with a wonderful son, Bobby III. He has grown into an outstanding young man and his father was extremely proud of him. His dedication to teaching pushed him to earn a Master’s of Education degree from Central State University, in Edmond Oklahoma. Bobby lived life on his own terms. Through many trials, tribulations and illnesses, he never lost his passion for art and all things human. His love for friends and family is ever enduring. As tough as times were for him, Bobby always prayed for others and never saw himself as needing extra attention. His love for Christ allowed him to approach the world with a smile on his face and a never give up attitude. We will miss his kind and giving spirit – Rest in peace. Survivors include one son, Bobby D. Sanford III, Stillwater; father, Bob D. Sanford, Ardmore; brother, Michael Sanford, Dallas; sister in law, Elaine Sanford, Sulphur; five great nieces and nephews; two nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Sanford in May 2010; and one brother, Ron Sanford in June 2008.

S. L. Blalock

Services for S. L. Blalock, 83, Sulphur, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the First Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Fred Bailey and Rev. Dick Terry. Burial will be at Dougherty Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home Born August 18, 1932 in Dougherty to Douglas and Oma Ruth (Fox) Blalock, he passed away Monday, Aug. 31, in Sulphur. He married Donna June (Veach) Blalock in Sulphur on August 24, 1953. She preceded him in death May 6, 2000. S. L. had lived in Murray County all of his life. He had worked as a ranch foreman and raised seven children on a cowboy’s pay. S. L. attended Oak Grove Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Dorothy Cox, Dorothy Walker, Juanita and Janita Blalock; two brothers, D. J. Blalock and Robert Lee Blalock;one grandchild and three great grandchildren. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Neal Hector, Goldsby, Brenda and Bart Stover, Sulphur, Sherry and Jim Prewitt, Mill Creek; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Bridget Blalock, Springer, Terry and Belinda Blalock, Sulphur, Richard and Christy Blalock, Coalgate, Brian and April Blalock, Sulphur; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Charles Lee Matlock

Funeral services for Charles Lee Matlock will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with Brother Gary Fielding and Johnny Tonihka officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis. Hales Funeral Home of Davis is in charge of the arrangements. He was born July 27, 1948 in Norman, OK to the late Herbert & Lucille (Jones) Matlock. He died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the age of 67 years 8 months & 26 days. Charles, a 1966 graduate of Davis High School, grew up in Davis. After high school he attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1970. After college, he made his home in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana, prior to returning to Davis in 1992. He worked several years at Camp Classen before joining the staff of Falls Creek Baptist Assembly Camp. In 2014, after nineteen years of both part-time and full-time employment at Falls Creek, he officially retired; however, he continued working there part-time in maintenance. Like many of the Falls Creek Staff “Family” members, such strong, lifelong bonds are created that it’s hard to simply leave and stay away. He was a very hard working man and although cherished his Falls Creek family, his own family was most important to him. He faithfully cared for his mother throughout her final day of life; as well as, mastered the role of being an amazing uncle. Whether it was babysitting, helping with Scouts or just simply being there to support them, he was always available for his nieces and nephews, mostly just to spoil them. He truly had a servant’s heart when it came to helping others. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and caring for his animals. Survivors include his two brothers, Paul David Matlock & wife Diana of Houston, TX and Philip Matlock of Oklahoma City; son, Kevin Matlock Hobbs; niece, Rhea Gilliland & husband Jeremy of Davis; two nephews, Mike Matlock & wife Laura of Nesbitt, MS and Brian Matlock & wife Tara of Piedmont, OK; as well as several great-nieces & great-nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be his Falls Creek co-workers Chad Fielding, Don Brown, Sam Snyder, James Norman, Kenny Hudson & Beau Waters. Honorary bearers will be Falls Creek Co-Workers Zeke Genn, Ryan Bauer, Matt Neal, Brandon Kelley, Clay Young, Kris Travis, Jeff Blakey, Corey Doss, Jeremy Tonihka & Zach Richardson. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, May 1st from 5-7PM at the funeral home.

Rocky Dean Schultz

A celebration of life memorial for Rocky Dean Schultz, 64, Sulphur, is planned for Sunday, May 1 at the entrance to Chickasaw National Recreation Area (West 12th Street entrance). Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial, set from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Rocky died February 22, 2016 in Oklahoma City due to complications from an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Karine Carter Schultz, of the home; one daughter, Rhianna Lindsey and husband, Brad; two grandsons; his mother, Lawanda Wilkins, Denver, Colo.; sister, Linda Lemons and husband, Ray, Denver, Colo. and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Schultz. Rocky was born December 19, 1951 to Leon Schultz and Lawanda Schultz Wilkins in Sulphur. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1970 and the graduated from the Okmulgee Culinary School, becoming a certified chef. He accepted a position at the Eagles Nest in the Oklahoma State Capitol where he was lead chef for six year. He returned to the Sulphur area and worked at several restaurants. Rocky was a great family man and loving father. He married Carolyn Karine Carter on August 20, 1985. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered as a dedicated husband and loyal friend.

Roland R. Bumpus

Graveside services were held Monday, April 11, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s cemetery with Father Thomas Dowdell officiating. Roland R. Bumpus (aka Bud, Tony, Papa) died on April 7, 2016 at the age of 94 after a long life and many glazed donuts consumed. He was a recent resident of Oklahoma City and Claremore; however, lived the last 46 years of his life in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He was born in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Agnes and LeRoy Bumpus (Gran and Potty), the second son of seven children. He traveled to California after his high school graduation and during his employment there, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. Following his combat service in World War II, he attended Oklahoma A&M University. While working in Kansas City, he met and married Nova Don Bausch in June of 1952. They had five children. After several career changes, he spent most of his working life farming in southern Oklahoma. He was blessed to have 10 grandchildren and became their Papa. Years later, he became a great-grandfather to five. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and three of his brothers, LeRoy, John, and Dickie. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Nova Don (Donie); his sisters Jeanne O’Connor and Joanne McCormick, and his brother Frank Bumpus, his wife Glenda; son Michael Bumpus, his wife Helen; daughter Anna Heaney, her husband Ray; daughter Lisa Bumpus; son Patrick Bumpus, his wife Laurel; daughter Sandra McGehee; along with his grandchildren, Kara Dunleavy, her husband Kevin; Erin Bailey, her husband Brian; Katy and Mica Bumpus; Tim and Jeff Wohlgemuth, their wives Jessika and Candida; Tanner and Emily McGehee; and Chris and Alex Bumpus; and five great grandchildren; Bridget, Rory, Esry, Eamon, and Olive. One of his greatest goals in his life was being a “good provider” in setting up his family for success. We, his family, strongly believe he accomplished this goal to the fullest. May he finally rest in peace and comfort with the Lord Our Savior.

Hilda Mae Knerr Sther

Hilda Mae Knerr Sther, of Pitman, Pa., Philadelphia, Pa., Hatbro, Pa., Chalfont, Pa and most recently of Lansdale, Pa., passed away on March 20, one week shy of her 99th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Earl Henry Stehr; her parents Claude and Mazie Knerr; siblings, James “Marvin, ” Albert, Helen, John, Alma, Charles, and Larry as well as two grandchildren, Brian and Angela. Hilda is survived by two of her sisters, Ida Kramer and Merle Hipple of Middletown, Pa.; five of her children, Albert Stehr of Pitman, Pa., Donald Stehr of Sulphur; John Cimino of Coopersburg, Pa.; Ruth Whitman of Quakertown, Pa. and Marilyn Casale of Lansdale, Pa. Hilda, or “Gram, ” was adored by 16 grandchildren and by great and great-great grandchildren and pretty much any child who met her. A devout Christian, Hilda lived a long and storied life. Born in Pitman, Pa. on March 29, 1971, Hilda had to grow up fast to help out on her family’s farm and to play second mom to her siblings. She heralded her family through the depression and plenty of other challenges. During the World War II effort, Hilda did her part, working on a missile assembly line at the Budd Company in Philadelphia. She lovingly nursed her husband Earl who had struggled with Black Lung disease during her latter years. Services were held on March 26 at Helper’s Church of God in Pitman, Pa, followed by a graveside service at the cemetery behind the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church.

Elmer Roy Hector

Elmer Roy Hector, also known by his nickname Spot, died in Garvin County, Oklahoma on April 11, 2016. He was born March 22, 1924 in a log cabin located in a cottonwood grove five miles north of Sulphur, Oklahoma. His parents Charley Creigh and Lottie Ann Hawthorne Hector and all his siblings preceded him in death, sisters, Edna Ethel and Inez May, brothers, Hassell Troy, Edgar Neal, Ivy Claude, Floyd Clyde, Roscoe Earl and Verlarce Gordon. His parents with their infant son, Hassell, and two of his father’s brothers, Ezra and Harvey and their families came to Oklahoma from San Saba, Texas in the fall of 1910 by mule drawn wagons. The brothers and their growing families worked as sharecroppers while trying to establish an economical foothold in the sparsely settled state of Oklahoma. He attended public schools in Murray County and was mostly self-educated. As a young man he worked on the family farm, and later for R.D. Ross’ Southern Rock and Asphalt Company. He left Sulphur on a freight train in late 1941 to work in the shipyards in California, and then joined the Army in January, 1943. Soon after the invasion of France, he was promoted to First Sergeant at age 20, and experienced warfare up close and personal in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He was awarded five battle stars and three more when he served in the Korean War. He retired in 1964, and then was an executive for The Army and Air Force Exchange Service for 20 years. In his retirement years he was instrumental in restoring the Astyanax Troy Hector Family Cemetery in San Marcos, Texas and wrote seven western novels and one autobiography. His first wife, Christa Ursula Dost preceded him in death, as did his second wife, Margaret Kathleen Hector. He is survived by two sons, Ronald Hector and His wife Nancy, and Douglas Hector and his wife Guille, and many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins. In departing this world, he said there is not sufficient space or time to describe his love and deep and abiding thanks and appreciation to a l his living kin and friends whom he had the privilege and honor to know. Graveside services with military honors for Elmer Roy Hector will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, Apr 14, 2016 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur with Pastor Helen Jones officiating. Family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 5-6:00 PM. Obituary written by his son, Ronald Hector. Services are “Entrusted To” HALE’S Funeral Home of Sulphur, OK.
