Larry Gene Powers
A memorial service for Larry Gene Powers, 60, Sulphur, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 in The Chapel of Sulphur Veteran’s Center with Chaplain Gary Akerman officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of DeArman’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Born March 24, 1956 in Warren, Ohio to Robert and Barbara (Simons) Powers, he passed away Thursday, May 26, in Sulphur. Larry grew up in Ohio, and had lived in several areas including Oklahoma City before coming to the Sulphur Veteran Center. He had worked in the oil field. He was a Veteran of the Viet Nam Era and served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Jeremy Powers, two brothers and 1 sister. Surviving are one daughter, Stephanie Beck, Edmond; his mother, Barbara Russell, Guthrie and three grandchildren.
Anna Joyce Kahlor
Services for Anna Joyce Kahlor, 85, Sulphur, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at the Sulphur United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. P. J. Stewart. Burial was held at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Born January 7, 1931 in Sulphur to Lacy R. and Eula (Goodall) Brown, she passed away Saturday, June 11 in Oklahoma City She married Glenn Kahlor in Sulphur on May 5, 1949. He preceded her in death February 24, 1994. She had lived in this area most of her life, graduating from Sulphur High School. Joyce was very involved in the Southern Oklahoma Senior Citizens Outreach Program as coordinator for Murray County Nutrition Center and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Sulphur United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son, Thomas Kahlor. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Kahlor, Buford, Ga.; daughter, Judy Kahlor and David Lance, Sulphur; son, Timothy Kahlor and Laura, Murrieta, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Brown and Cherlyn, Sulphur; three grandchildren, Nikki Knight, Lacey Johnson and Jeremiah, Ryan Kahlor and Hannah;five great grandchildren, James Knight, Alex Knight, Kahlor Johnson, Caleb Johnson and Evan Johnson and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Alex Knight, Kahlor Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Terry Wolfe, Justin Reeder, and Dave Lance. Honorary bearers were Todd Brown, Mitchell Tribbey, Jimmie Newton, Caleb Johnson, Evan Johnson, Cole Gibson, Ryan Kahlor, James Knight and Roger Boles.
Vonda Lea Wright
Services for Vonda Lea Wright, 79, Davis, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at the Assembly of God Church in Davis with Rev Johnny Beckman officiating. A private interment will be held at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis. Vonda was born February 25, 1937 in Minco to the late Ray C. and Thelma M. (Williams) Masters. She died Sunday, June 12, in Sulphur. Vonda grew up in El Reno. After graduating from El Reno High School, she pursued a degree in nursing with studies at St. Anthony’s School of Nursing, OSU Tech and Central State University. Vonda spent 60+ years working in the field of nursing. In the earlier years of her career, she worked in many of the major hospitals in the Oklahoma City area prior to working as a traveling RN. While traveling, Vonda worked in numerous hospitals throughout the United States. The final 25 years of her career was spent as a RN at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital and Health-Back Home Health of Davis, retiring in 2014. In her free time, Vonda enjoyed fishing and traveling with her friends and family, as often as she could. Survivors include two sons, William Albers, Davis and Brad Albers, Moore; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and one brother, Joe Masters, Mustang. In addition to her parents, Vonda was preceded in death by her daughter, Cari Lea Rush in Oct. 2006; father of her three children, Herbert Albers; and one brother, Larry Masters. Ada Lois Webb
Services for Ada Lois Webb, Davis, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at the First Christian Church in Davis officiated by Rev. Don Waters. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Born August 15, 1923 in Charleston, Ark. to Joe and Hettie (Hager) Dickson, she passed away Friday, June 10, in Sulphur at the age of 92 years, nine months and 25 days. She married David Webb in Sherman, Texas on March 12, 1959. Growing up, she spent time in Arkansas and Oklahoma. After her marriage, she spent time with her husband, David, at Air Force bases in Bermuda and Altus, before moving to Davis in 1969 where she spent the rest of her life. Ada had worked as a registered nurse. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lula Raper and Ruthie Gibson; two brothers, C. W. Williams and L. C. Williams. She is survived by one daughter, Bernadine DeArman of Wynnewood; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Betty Mainard of Charleston, Ark., Dave and Carmen Webb of Apex, N.C.; two sisters, Johnnie Goddard of Davis and Betty Jones of Wynnewood; seven grandchildren, Anthony Mainard and Cindy, Joe and Lanae DeArman, Jim DeArman, Nicholas Webb, Ethan Webb, Mallory Webb, Karissa Webb; 10 great grandchildren, Trevor, Eliza, Payton, Ethan, Landy Beau, Emma, Bailey, Keri, Kole and Tommie Brooke. Pallbearers were Anthony Mainard, Joe DeArman, Jim DeArman, Nicholas Webb, Ethan Webb, and Trevor Mainard.
Billie Donna Potter
Billie Donna Potter, of Sulphur, was born August 14, 1959 in Mason, Texas to Carl Monroe and Lois Marie (Terry) Cochran. She passed away Friday, June 24, in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 56 years 10 months and 10 days. There are no words to describe the impact, on those who knew her, by the sudden loss of a devoted wife, mother, Mee-Mee, sister, aunt and friend. To her each of these descriptions truly meant something. She was a tiny woman with a kind heart the size of her home state of Texas. She was always quick to smile, filled with love, and never met a stranger. She could always be counted on the be there for anyone, whether they knew they needed it or not. She was a strong-willed woman who accomplished any task she set her mind to. Those lucky enough to have known her quickly realized her family was the most important thing to her in the world. The distinction between friend and family didn’t exist to either, if you knew her you were family; always. The void left by her passing will never be filled, she was one of a kind and will always be missed. In passing, she is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Potter; her children, Johnny and Amanda, Joseph, Justin and Dessra and Dehnna; grandchildren, Austyn, Jewel, Madison, Jessie, Jordan and Izaiah. In keeping with her wishes there will be no viewing or funeral service. Arrangements are under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
Mary Nell (Price) Day
Mary Nell (Price) Day, of Sulphur, was born on May 4, 1934 in Davis to Clitus Willis Price and Lillie Cleo (Springer) Price. She passed away at home surrounded by her family on June 26, 2016, in Sulphur at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 22 days. Mary attended Davis schools in the class of 52 until the last few months when she had to move to Oklahoma City and finished at Classen High School. She has made her home in Sulphur, Oklahoma since June 15, 1952 when she married James E. “Tiny” Day. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. A woman’s legacy is her family, her husband, and her children. This was true of Mary Day. Mary was always there for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a wife she was a strong partner and supported Tiny’s various endeavors, including his many years as a fireman, and olice officer here in Sulphur. She was a constant supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities through school and community, including attending sporting events, plays, and recitals, making cakes, chauffeuring, helping with scouting activities and being a constant source of encouragement for all that they attempted to do. Mary Day was a faithful member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Sulphur for many years. She was involved in many aspects of the church: a devoted Bible Study participant, Nursery Worker, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School worker, Women’s Auxiliary, and a member of the Choir. She was a member and worker of the community Christian Women’s organization. She participated on the Walk to Emmaus. When the church sponsored a Boy Scout Troop, she became involved as a committee member and stayed on even after her own children were grown and out of scouting. Mary’s main occupation was homemaker although she also worked and helped run a local café that Tiny and she owned for a short time, she worked at local dry cleaners, and worked as a member of the Sulphur High School Cafeteria staff. Her parents, Clitus and Lilly Price; three siblings, Elfreda Bishop, Charles Price, and Paula Price; her husband, James Day; and granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Day, preceded Mary in death. Mary is survived by two siblings, Madella Faye (Price) Ivey and James Cleo Price. Also surviving Mary are her four children, Jim Day and wife, Carleena; Judy Ayers and husband, Bill; and Brian Day and wife, JoAnn; all of Sulphur, Oklahoma and son, Dr. Tony Day and wife, Donna of Frisco, Texas. Surviving grandchildren: Jaime Day, Heather McMurrain and husband, Wyatt, Mary Day, Brookelyn Day, Madiecyn Day, and Correbin Day and great-grandchildren: Dayne Bradley, Laynie Bradley, Dayton Bouton, Jakob Stuery, Makenzie Stuery, and Alexia McMurrain. Services for Mary will be held at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 with Rev. Dick Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Toby Todd, Joey Muck, Terry Blalock, Joe Runyan, Jim Parker, Charles Glen Leming, and Bob Seward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sulphur First Free Will Baptist Church Youth Fund.
John D. Bell
John D. Bell was born on October 21, 1927 at Athens, Texas to Floyd and Era Bell. He passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. John was saved and baptized at Flat Creek in East Texas. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was drafted and did basic training at Camp Carson Colorado before being sent to Korea. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base swing shift as a Chief, Work Foreman, Jet Engine Mechanic in over haul and tear down in engines for 29 years and retired in 1980. After he retired from Tinker, he worked at Orbocks in 50 Penn Place and Presbyterian Hospital. John married his first wife Lena Bell in 1954 and they were married until her death in 1969. They had two daughters, Carolyn and Judy. He then married his second wife Marie Bell in 1972 and were married for 20 years. John was a big OU fan and enjoyed going to the OU-Texas game. After the game he always liked to drive over to east Texas to visit with family. He was faithful to always attend the Rounsavall family reunion each year, and the Athens Old Fiddlers Reunion Courthouse Square. He enjoyed attending the Watermelon Festival in Rush Springs. He could say he remembered attending the first one held. John liked camping in the park at Sulphur and enjoyed buying and selling Vintage items at the local flea markets in Florida and Oklahoma. He enjoyed driving new red Fords cross country! He once had a new Ford with over 100, 000 miles on it just in a few years. He said his mother would say it’s a good when you are going somewhere. I have to say John D. was a man that found the good side to life and enjoyed it all, he is the only man that I know that could have a flat and it would turn into something fun. Seems like he had a lot of angels around him all the time, they were right there to help out when the going got tough. I know his advice today would be enjoy your life, get all the good out of it, don’t worry about it, something sweet will fix it! Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Cornerstone Church (15th & Post). Pastor Ron McKey will officiate. Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Trever Cyle Taylor
Trever Cyle Taylor, 20, of Paul's Valley, was born December 21, 1995 in Ada. He passed away Thursday, June 23, in Wynnewood. He had lived in Paul's Valley all of his life. Trever graduated from Paul's Valley High School and had worked as a sales clerk for Braums. He is survived by his mother, Shawnetta Taylor, Paul's Valley; step-father, James E. Cudjo, Paul's Valley; brother, James R. Cudjo, Paul's Valley; sister, Alexis Taylor, Paul's Valley; grandmother, Linda Rodriguez, Paul's Valley and grandfather, Jimmy Taylor, Paul's Valley. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
David Lee Cottrell
Services for David Lee Cottrell, 73, Wynnewood, were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 27, at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr officiating. Interment followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis. David was born June 8, 1943 in Wynnewood to the late Harold and Lois (Twyman) Cottrell. He died Thursday, June 23, in Paul's Valley. David grew up in Wynnewood and spent 50+ years working as auto mechanic. Many of his working years were spent with Toyota of Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Even in his leisure time, David could be found working on vehicles. He enjoyed working on anything that had a motor. David also loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his daughter, Lawanna Cottrell, Sulphur; son, Robert Cottrell, Sulphur; three grandchildren; one great-grandson and two sisters, Lavern Ellis, Lexington and Mary Jane Lairson, Norman. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Cliff and Gene Cottrell. Serving as pallbearers were Gregory Welborn, Harold Ray Cottrell, Larry Weston, Justin Dodson, Wes Kimbro and Trey Chandler.
