William R. Voss

McLoud resident William R. Voss, formerly of Houston, Texas, died Sunday in a local hospital at the age of 66.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Burial will be at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.

He was born March 11, 1932, in Parkdale, Ark., the son of Philander and Ony (Kincaid) Voss. He married Jean Marie Adams in Houston, Texas, on Nov. 25, 1940, and was a steel worker for Armco Steel in Houston for 33 years. He had lived in McLoud for a year and a half.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and one brother.

Surviving are his sons, Walter Voss and Neal Voss, both of Houston, Texas, and Gene Voss, Crosby, Texas; brothers, Gene Voss and Lawrence Voss, both of Shawnee, Bob Voss, Tecumseh, and Phi Voss, Checotah; sisters, Geraldine Stull, Three Rivers, Texas, Hazel James, Martinsville, Va., and Wanda Sullins, Hobart; and five grandchildren.

Theodore Smith

Theodore Smith, born Aug. 14, 1941, in McLoud died Friday in a local hospital at the age of 57.

Theodore "Ted" Smith is a 1959 graduate of Shawnee High School and lived in Arlington, Texas. He served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; aunt, Sylvia Bivens of Shawnee; stepchildren, Valerie and Vearl Kelly of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Bettie Hawkins of Amarillo, Texas; brothers, Earl Bivens, San Ysidro, Calif., Bruce Bivens, Sacramento, Calif., and Freddye Bivens, Oklahoma City; daughter, Felicia Rogers, Oklahoma City, cousins, Jenean Bray, Lisa Phillips and Chris Bivens, Arlington, Texas; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Smith; brother, Lynn Smith; daughter, Precious Smith; stepfather, Jacob Amey, and maternal grandmother and grandfather.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Arlington Church of Christ, Arlington, Texas, with Kenneth Morrison officiating. Wake service is 7 p.m. at Central Arlington Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of Rev's Funeral Home and Parlor of Fort Worth, Texas.

Kenneth Verle Eyer

Former Shawnee resident Kenneth Verle Eyer of Owasso died Sunday.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel which is handling local arrangements.

Eyer was born March 30, 1920, to Leighton and Irma Sprague Eyer in Beaver County. He attended country schools and was graduated valedictorian from Beaver High School.

After graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1943, he taught physics at OBU before attending graduate school at the University of Texas in Austin.

He returned to OBU in 1945 to become superintendent of buildings and grounds, a post he held for four decades. He was responsible for overseeing construction and renovation of buildings all over the campus, including John Wesley Raley Chapel, University Center (now known as the Geiger Center), Mabee Learning Center, West University Apartments, Howard Apartments, Noble Complex and Wood Science Building. His title was changed to director of the physical plant and, in 1981, he was named assistant vice president for construction services.

In 1982, Eyer received OBU's "Distinguished Service Award" and, in 1984, he was the first recipient of the "Meritorious Service Award." At the time of his retirement in 1985, OBU's physical plant building was named the Kenneth V. Eyer Physical Plant Building in honor of his longtime service to the university.

He was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was a founding member of the American Physical Plant Association and a member of Shawnee chapter of Rotary International.

He and his wife, Nell, moved to the Baptist Retirement Center in Owasso in 1996 and became members of First Baptist Church of Owasso and its senior adult Sunday school class.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Arlene Eyer, of Owasso; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Troy Warriner, Tulsa, and Julia Eyer and Michael Parchman, San Antonio, Texas; son, Paul Eyer, Harrisburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Walker, David Warriner, both of Tulsa, and Julie Ann Eyer, Harrisburg, Pa., and sisters and brother-in-law, Doris Cook and Lorraine Millikan, both of Beaver, and Vinita and Wayne Winfough of Havensville, Kan.

Also surviving are close family friends Larry and Teri Walker and daughters Worthy and Amity Walker of Shawnee, and the Dr. Sunday Fadulu family of Houston, Texas. Dr. Fadulu, originally from Nigeria, lived with the Eyers while he was a student at OBU.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church building fund or to Gideon International.

Geneva Marie Hagar

Geneva Marie Hagar died Sunday at her Carney home. She was 79.

She was born west of Carney on May 14, 1919, the daughter of John Oliver and Stella Frances (Jauch) Balch. She attended school in Agra and was a member of Agra First Baptist Church. She married Leo Allen "Sandy" Hagar on Jan. 5, 1939, in Chandler and they lived near Beaver for 20 years and in Carney.

Her parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Leo "Sandy" Hagar of the home; two sons, Tony Hagar, Wichita, Kan., and David Hagar, Tulsa, and many other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Assembly of God Church in Carney with the Rev. Bo Gibbs and the Rev. Lorn Starling officiating. Burial will be at Carney Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Gladys M. Brewster

Gladys M. Brewster of Eufaula died Monday at the age of 96.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pryor Cemetery, Stuart, under the direction of Merritt Funeral Service of Eufaula. Charlie Bailey and Fred Choate will officiate.

She was born Nov. 7, 1902, at Newton, Ark., the daughter of Rhoda Head. She married Raymond Leonard Brewster at Stuart in 1919 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her husband; one son, Leonard Brewster, and her mother.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Virginia Brewster, Eufaula; stepsister, Cecil Choate, Edmond; grandchildren, Kenneth Brewster Jr., Edmond, Leonard and Della Brewster, Manderville, La., and Henry and Marsha Brewster, Batesville, Ark.; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Edgar Lee Crumpley

Edward Lee Crumpley died Saturday in a Norman hospital at the age of 90.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel of Okemah with the Rev. Betty Wideman officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Okemah.

He was born April 5, 1908, in Okemah to George and Maude Garrett Crumpley. He married Ruby Brown in Okemah on Feb. 6, 1931, and had been a resident of Okfuskee County since 1971. He was a retired farmer and oil field worker and was Baptist.

One son and four daughters preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Ruby Crumpley, of the home; three sons, Jimmy Crumpley and Floyd Crumpley, both of Oklahoma City, and Delbert Crumpley, Odessa, Texas; daughter, Janice Glentzer, Independence, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Elsie L. Sparkman

Elsie L. Sparkman of Tecumseh died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 79.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Madison Paige Grandstaff

Madison Paige Grandstaff, daughter of Steve C. Grandstaff and Sonya Jill Hughes Grandstaff of Seminole, was stillborn Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Also surviving are her brother, Tyler Grandstaff; grandparents, Kagle and Nora Grandstaff, Seminole, and James and Beth Gentry, Wewoka; great-grandparents, Lenora Ring, Shawnee, and Lloyd and Martha Hughes, Seminole, and many other relatives.

Kathleen Ruth (Bartlett) Palmer

Kathleen Ruth (Bartlett) Palmer of Shawnee died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 79.

She was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Holdenville, the daughter of Hettie and W.L. Bartlett. She graduated from Holdenville High School.

After a seven-year courtship, she married her childhood sweetheart, Harold Palmer, in 1942. They were married for 58 years.

Mrs. Palmer was an abstractor with Atlas Abstract Company before moving to Shawnee in 1947.

She accepted "temporary" employment with Abernathy and Abernathy Attorneys-at-Law in Shawnee. After 35 years of service, she retired from this "temporary" position.

She was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was a very active member of the Pottawatomie County Legal Secretaries Association, which she helped charter.

She served as vice president and president of the local chapter and was convention chairwoman of the Oklahoma State Convention of Legal Secretaries in 1966.

Also in 1966, she was elected Legal Secretary of the Year of the Pottawatomie County association and served as president of the Oklahoma state association from 1970-1971.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.

Survivors include husband, Harold Palmer of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Jere Roberson, Edmond; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Barbara Palmer, Missoula, Mont.; grandchildren and their spouses, Rebekah and Tim Dekker, Tom and Charlsie Reyenga, Jennifer and Kurt Whitmire and Joshua Palmer; two great-grandsons, Thomas and Carter Reyenga, and their grandfather, Tom.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Arthur Scrutchins and the Rev. Percy Jerkins officiating. Burial will be at Holdenville Cemetery. Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Endowment Fund.

Mary Ruth Whisenant Macon

Mary Ruth "Ruthie" Chambers Whisenant Macon, 98, Owasso, died Wednesday.

She was born Jan. 29, 1903, in St. Paul, Ark., to Joseph Marion Chambers and Armiddie Watkins Chambers.

In 1906, her family traveled by wagon from Arkansas to settle in Pilot Point, Texas, where she grew up.

She married Oscar Whisenant at age 17 in Denton, Texas. They had one daughter, Dorothy Idella Whisenant.

The family left Pilot Point in 1935 and moved to Gainesville, Texas, where she was a domestic and housekeeper for 40 years. She was married in 1965 to Jesse Morgan Macon, who preceded her in death May 22, 1986.

Her daughter, Dorothy I. Payne, preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1986.

Mrs. Macon moved to Owasso in May 1997 to be near her grandson and his wife, Ronald L. and Glenda Payne; her two great-granddaughters, Meredith Payne and Michelle Gildart and husband Ben Gildart; and her great-great-grandchildren, Brianna and Benjamin Gildart. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee. Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso is in charge of arrangements.

Troy L. Cole

Troy L. Cole, 66, Shawnee, died Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Jan. 11, 1935, in Bonnam, Ky., to Junnie (Roberts) and Shafter Cole. He was married Aug. 21, 1971, to Lorene Brewer at Dillon, S.C.

He was a retired Marine who served in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. Cole, a retired executive chef, moved from California to Shawnee in July 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Nolan Cole; and one sister, Dorothy Metcalf.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Cole of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Francis "Frankie" Edwin and Elena Cole, Selden, N.Y.; James "Jimmy" Edward and Evelyn Foran, Bixby; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Leone Cole, Beattyville, Ky.; Jim and Yvonne Cole, Lexington, Ky.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Eula Mae Susnick, Scottsburg, Ind.; Nancy and Bert Smith, Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Konawa with Frank Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa is in charge of arrangements.

Helene J. Chapman

Former Shawnee resident Helene J. Chapman, 93, died Sunday in Gulfport, Fla.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
