Rose Lee “Granny Rose” Trice
March 8, 1930 – October 11, 2009

Rose Lee Trice was born on March 8, 1939 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Roger & Virgie (Bernard) Sanders. She spent her youth in Michigan, then moved to Oregon in 1958. Granny Rose, as she was known to all, LOVED to cook, and everyone LOVED her cooking. Her fried chicken and greens were without comparison. It was as though there wasn’t anything she couldn’t make that wasn’t delicious – according to some of her daughters. Granny Rose is survived by her sons; Allen Sanders (Joyce) of Las Vegas, Eddie Trice of Fort Lavaca Texas, Jimmie Trice(Carla) of Savannah, GA and daughters; Lamodia Johnson (James), Sylvia Spencer (Roy), and Violet Trice-Barber – all from the Portland area. Granny Rose was preceded in death by her mother, her son Roger, and her daughter, Tone Sue Williams.

A funeral will be held on Monday, October19, 2009 at 1 pm at the Allen Temple Church in NE Portland. Arrangements were by Crown Memorial Center – Milwaukie.

Darrell “Robb” Mapes

Darrell “Robb” Mapes beloved son brother cousin partner and friend passed away Sunday evening October 11 2009. He would have celebrated his 42nd birthday on November 14th.

Robb was born in Tillamook Oregon in 1967. From a early age Robb had an engaging grin and an ability to climb everything.

He attended school in Dallas Oregon. Memories of Robb at this time are of all the things he did such as his prince phase his ability to bust a move such as break dancing and stunt motorcycling.

Robb met his partner Christina Gotcher through friends over 11 years ago. Recently Robb told Christina “I think it’s almost time I made a honest women of you” with his low drawl and mischievous grin.

Robb was a man of many talents including carpet laying and carpentry. Robb always had a project or hobby he was doing to help around the house.

Robb loved being with his family and friends and was usually found in his shed aka his hangout. Robb found peace and relaxation through his ancient Native American rituals and his martial arts.

His family and friends will celebrate his life at his home on Saturday October the 17th at 1PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Carol June McLane

Carol passed away in the morning of October 10, 2009 at the age of 69. She was born February 18, 1940 to William and Grace Dryden in Missouri Valley, Iowa and moved to Oregon later in life to be near her children. Carol loved gardening, especially Dahlias and enjoyed her pet cat Shadow.

Carol is survived by her daughter Tami Pruden of Salem; her Daughter Sherri Dixon of Seattle; her son Gregory McLane of Salem; Brother William of Illinois; Sisters Peggy Dryden and Joyce Mirrelli of Illinois; Brother Lawrence of California; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Lancaster Assembly of God, 491 Lancaster Dr NE in Salem, OR. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Ryam James Christen

Ryan James Christen, 23, died on October 9, 2009. He was born March 19, 1986 in Portland, Oregon.

Ryan was diagnosed at age 3 with MPS 1 (Huler syndrome), a rare genetic disease. He was given a life expectancy of 10 years. He lived with enthusiasm and determination until the Lord took him home at age 23. We were so blessed!

Ryan graduated from Gresham High School in 2004. Some of Ryan’s favorite activities were music, fishing, target practice, riding the quad and the John Deere tractor.

Ryan is survived by, his father, Ron Christen of Sherwood; mother, Becky Christen of Gresham; sisters Erin Limbo of Damascus and Stefanie Christen of Gresham; grandparents, Jack and Lee Bruce of Clackamas; niece and nephew, Paige and Grant Limbo of Damascus; many relatives and friends. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU RYAN!

Services were held at St. Francis Catholic Parish on Friday, 10/16/09. Donations can be made in Ryan’s name to The National MPS Society or Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.

Christy Rose Vanek Britt

Christy BrittFriday, October 9, 2009, my love left, surrounded by the love of family and friends, to live free of pain and to walk among the angels.

Born December 3, 1946 in Hood River, Oregon to Chuck and Bebe Vanek, where she spent her youth and graduated from WY East High School. She would say “it was the best place in the world to grow up, with friends for a lifetime and a zest for life. “ She was up for any adventure, with one rule, “Right is right and wrong is wrong”, from which she never wavered. She loved the outdoors, loved her dogs, cats and pet pigs, and loved playing poker and pool with friends. She fought and defeated many windmills during her life.

Christy was preceded in death by her mother, Bebe, son, Todd Lewis and step-mother, Alma Vanek. She is survived by her husband, Phil Britt of Amity, Oregon, father, Chuck Vanek of Hood River, Oregon, brother, Brad Vanek of Rainier, Oregon, step-sister, Sharon Herman-Ingram and step-brother Chris Herman of Hood River, Oregon, many nieces and nephews and good friends.

Christy, my love, I can’t and won’t say, “Good Bye.” Until we are together again, all I can say is, “I love you.”

Services will be held at the Klickitat County Cemetery, District 95 Snowden Road, White Salmon, Washington, on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center, Tualatin.

Hilde Hennigan

Hilde Hennigan, of Beaverton, died on October 9, 2009, at the age of 90. Hilde was born in Germany on August 23, 1919, and grew up in Breslau. She moved to the United States in 1957 and then to Oregon in 1980. In the late 1990’s, Hilde became a U.S. citizen. Hilde and her husband, Paul, had three children together; daughter, Karin Dasgupta, now resides in India, son John Sheerer and his wife, Wadeen, live in Milwaukie, Oregon, and daughter Yvonne Hebing, lives in Ruston, Louisiana. Hilde was employed as a seamstress at several high end department stores and spent her spare time refurbishing furniture.

Hilde is survived by daughter, Karin Dasgupta, son and daughter-in-law, John and Wadeen Sheerer, and daughter, Yvonne Hebing, in addition to four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul. The family is planning a service for a later date and time.

James “Smitty” Smith

James “Smitty” Smith was born into a logging family in Lebanon, OR, on March 27, 1949. He carried on the family tradition by working as both a logger and tree trimmer. He was married at the south fork of Eagle Creek in 1983 to his lovely wife, Pam. The couple had four children together, daughters Jennifer and Betty Jane, and sons Jason and Little “Smitty” as well as two grandchildren. In addition to his love for the great outdoors, James was passionate about old cars, particularly his ’47 Chevy “Miss Vera”. To honor James and his love of old cars, there will be a “Final Cruise” in which family and friends are encouraged to bring along their vintage automobiles. The “Final Cruise” will take place on Sunday, October 11th at 1:00 at Neldrum Bar Park, located off River Road in Gladstone.

James is survived by his wife Pam, daughters Jennifer and Betty Jane, and sisters Shelley and Cindy. He is preceded by sons, Little “Smitty” and Jason. Arrangements were made by Crown Memorial Center – Milwaukie.
