Donna Sue Burkhart

Donna Sue Burkhart, 61, was born on November 14, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas to Samuel and Mabel Scott. Donna passed away on March 1, 2009 in Portland, Oregon.

Donna was raised in Wichita until 1982 when she moved to San Francisco, California where she lived til 1990. In 1990 she moved back to Kansas and attended Wichita State University where she graduated in 2000. Donna moved to Oregon in 2002 and lived in Beaverton and the Hillsboro.

Donna is survived by her son Joel Burkhart of West Chester, PA; daughter, Lindsey Elliss of Haysville, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Wayne Burkhart.

Max Donald Carpenter

Max Donald Carpenter passed away in McMinnville, Oregon on June 27th, 2010 at the age of 87. Born October 25th, 1922 in Buchanan, Michigan, Max lived in California and South Carolina before moving to Oregon in 1995. Max was a WWII veteran, serving his country as a marine engineer and intelligence observer in the United States Army. After the war Max was a Township Trustee in the 1950s, and when he could he found time for hunting and woodworking.

Max is survived by his son, Douglas Carpenter, and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his other son, Donald Carpenter.

Max will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery. No service is planned at this time.

Janet Francis Rappe

Janet, age 58, passed away in the evening hours of July 26, 2010 at her home in Salem, OR. She was the daughter of James and Francis (Mohler) Ackerman, born October 19, 1951 in Duluth, Minnesota. she is survived by her spouse, Dana Ray Rappe, 3 sons; Jason, Eric and Ross and 6 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm, July 9, 2010, at 322 Edgewood Dr. in Silverton. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Salem.

Sally Bradley

Sally Ann Bradley, 76, passed away on June 25, 2010. Sally Ann was born on October 31, 1933 to Annabelle and Ruben Morris in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from Cleveland High School and on October 1, 1959, she married Earl Bradley in Stevenson, Washington. Sally worked as a property manager for mobile home parks including Country Village and Clackamas River Village. Aside from work, Sally loved fishing, hiking Mt. Hood, the beach, camping, and gambling, particularly slot machines.

Sally is survived by her husband Earl Bradley; children Leonard, Linda, Kenny, Del, LaRea and Louise; grandchildren Michael, Tracy, Richard, Michelle, Kristina, Lyle and Bryan; great-grandchildren Brandon and Nicholas; sister Donna Story; and brothers Ron Morris and Bob Huddleston.

A graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Milwaukie.

Jane S. Munson
February 17, 1927 — June 24, 2010

Jane S. Munson died at St. Anthony Village on June 24, 2010. She was 83 years old. In her last hours her family gathered in her room to pray, and to speak to her, and to recall the happier moments of her life.

(Charlotte) Jane Sherrer was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 17, 1927, the daughter of Catherine Fye and Harold D. Sherrer. She was the second of four children and the only daughter. She grew up in Marion, Ohio, where she attended St. Mary Parochial Grade and High School. She graduated from high school in 1945 and enrolled in the College of Mt. St. Joseph-on-the-Ohio the following September. She married Kay A. Munson in October, 1948, and they were the parents of James Matthew Munson. The Munsons lived in LaRue, Ohio, and in Cleveland, before moving to Dayton, Ohio, where Kay was employed by IBM. In 1955 the family moved to Springfield, Ohio, Kay still employed by IBM, and made their residence there for more than thirty years. Jane was a teacher at St. Joseph Grade School in Springfield before joining the faculty of Central Catholic High School in Springfield. Kay died on March 18, 1984, and Jane continued to make her home in Springfield for the next ten years.

In 1994 she moved to Portland, Oregon, where her son Jim and his family made their home. Jim had graduated from the University of Portland and had married Roberta L. Taylor in 1970. They continue to make their home in Portland. In addition to her son and daughter-in-law Jane is survived by her grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas Munson, their wives, and two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Father David Sherrer, C.S.C., Professor Emeritus at the University of Portland. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. A Mass and remembrance was held at St Anthony Catholic Church on Monday June 28th. Jane’s cremated remains will be transported back to Springfield, Ohio to be interred with her husband Kay.

Lena Clark
July 7, 1914 – June 24, 2010

Woodburn resident, Lena Clark, 95, passed away on June 24, 2010. Lena was born on July 7, 1914 in Portland and worked in farming and later in custodial services. She was an avid bingo player and loved spending time with her great grandchildren. Lena enjoying watching the news and always ended her day by watching Wheel of Fortune. In 2006, Lena moved to Woodburn, Oregon to be closer to her daughter, JoAnn.

Lena is survived by her daughter Jeanine Johnson of Corning, California; son Robert Reghitto of Portland; daughter JoAnn Hilton of Woodburn; 7 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by husband Louie Reghitto and husband Ray Clark; her parents and siblings.

At Lena’s request, there will be no services. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.

Patricia D. Whiting
October 22, 1940 – June 23, 2010

Patricia “Patti” D. Whiting, 69, passed away on June 23, 2010 at her home in Tigard. Patti was a great wife, homemaker, big sister, family protector, state legislator, and community leader. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Vince. The couple renewed their wedding vows every 5 years with new rings and honeymoons. She is also survived by her sisters Connie Melanson of Hawaii and Elyse Cotant of New Mexico; brothers George, Mason, Jim and Morton Uyeda of California, Leon Castillo of Arizona; mother, Doris Runolfson of Nebraska; and father, Henry Carpio of the Philippines.

Patti was a well educated woman, having received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Jose, she did graduate work at Oregon State University and received her Master’s in Public Administration from Lewis and Clark.

She served from 1972 – 1978 for 3 terms in the Oregon Legislative with Governors Tom McCall and Bob Straub. Key Legislation: Worlds first bans on ozone depleting spray cans and smoking. Oregon’s ratification of ERA, Willamette green way, Land use planning (SB 100), bottle and beach bills. Patti was on the Today Show and defended the ozone bill in debate leading to worldwide Kyoto and Montreal protocols. She was awarded with the Izaak Walton league “Conservationist of the Year” in 1979. The Washington County, Oregon State University extension service “Pioneer Citizen Stateswoman Award”. The “Distinguished Service Award” in the City of Tualatin and the “Harold M. Hayes Award” in 2009 for Citizen Involvement in Washington County. Patti was also awarded the Eagleton Institute/Rutgers University/Carnegie Foundation “Top 10 US State Legislation Award” in 1975.

In addition to being a part of numerous legislative teams, she was a board member for Loaves and Fishes (Tri-County), Eastmoreland Hospital, National Council of State Legislators, Beaverton’s Police Advisory/Chief Bishop, CPO 4M Metzger. She was a member of the National Women’s Council of State Legislators, National Council of State Legislators, International Platform speakers association and Organization of Women’s legislators.

Patti was a very loving, capable, citizen orientated woman and was very involved in a better living for people. “We Miss You Love.”
