Claude “Butch” A. Slane
January 26, 1946 – June 18, 2010

“He is not here as you suppose” but he has gone to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus

Butch knew the privilege of seeing his faith heal many and his greatest joy was sharing God's love to others. He loved his job at McKracken and built many friendships over the years with his co-workers and fellow trucking partners. He saw his job as being part of a team and an opportunity to see the Lord move on behalf of the company. It gave him great pleasure to see the Lord put pieces of a puzzle together and he had a special gift for knowing how it all fit.

Butch had an amazing ability to process numbers in his head and yet when it came to someone’s name he’d lose it. One of his many blessings in life was to be restored to the wife of his youth and the love of his life, who he lovingly called Kat. He felt his life was finally complete and had peace of mind and renewed purpose. He delighted in his grandbabies and loved to give them pet names. Over the past several years, the Lord restored his relationship with his three daughters, Kathy Ann, Claudeen and Mylinda who survive him.

One of his secret desires was to be a chef! He loved to cook for people and would always do the “fancy stuff”; however, his tremors wouldn’t allow for that as a career. He loved life, enjoyed oil painting and writing poems (I’ve included a few.) He even considered a book of poems but never got around to it.

Probably the most important thing when sharing my thoughts about Butch’s life with you, his friends and family, would be his Park Bench Experience. He didn’t tell many people but I know he would want it told now….

Nearly twenty years ago he was sitting by the river, his favorite place, feeling lost, unhappy and depressed. Although Butch believed in God, he didn’t understand anything about Him or Jesus, but nonetheless he was talking with God about his burdens and all at once a cloud completely engulfed him and it filled him with incredible joy. He didn’t know then what happened but he did know it was God.

After that he quit drinking and began to reach out and help people. He would go to different churches but didn’t really learn much until Kat (myself) came into his life. With bible in hand and some help, he then began to grow and understand who Jesus was and what he was all about.

God placed great faith in Butch at that park bench and he was blessed with a very real and personal relationship. The Lord and he loved to share the good news with anyone who had a question or needed help or prayer. His faith was so strong that his life in heaven was more real than here on earth and he was ready to make the trip.

Some say “if he’d gone to the doctor he could have lived many more years” and that is possibly true, but Butch left it in the hands of the Creator. He was really ready to go be with the Lord.

Butch lived a long, full life and touched many people along the way. I know that his final word to all those that knew him would be “Give Jesus a chance in your life. Learn who He is and what an incredible difference it makes to know His love for us.”

May your mourning be short and your joy eternal……..Kathleen “Kat” Slane
