Helen Louise Miles

The memorial service for Helen Louise Miles will be at 3 p.m. today at Mountain View Estates in Talent. Rev. Carmelo Mifsud of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.

Mrs. Miles, 78, of Talent, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Peter and Ann (Mazan) Pasko. In 1941, in Grand Rapids, Mich., she married Eugene D. Miles, who survives. Since 1990, they have divided their residency between Talent and Carlsbad, Calif.

In California, Mrs. Miles worked for Howard Hughes Aircraft during World War II, and helped build the Spruce Goose. She also worked for Adohr Farms, in the ice cream factory. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Benson Electric, the largest appliance dealer in the area. She and her husband owned and operated mobile home parks from 1975 until the present, and she also assisted him in their real estate endeavors.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Christine Hudson, Gold Hill; a son, Jeffrey, Prescott, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Harold A. Ricks

The memorial service for Harold A. Ricks will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.

Mr. Ricks, 80, of Harbor, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born June 4, 1920, in Bayard, Neb., the son of Pete and Emma Ricks. In 1971, in Medford, he married Patricia Thanos, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1952 to 1990, when he moved to Harbor.

Mr. Ricks was a mechanical engineer for Cheney Lumber Company in Central Point from 1952 to 1965. He later operated his own mechanical engineering business.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dean, Central Point; two sisters, Ginger Ricks, Seattle, and Susie Mount, Scotts Bluff, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Jerry W. Clark

Jerry W. Clark, 64, of Gold Hill, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at his home. Arrangements will be announced by Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Roland Charles Keffer

Roland Charles Keffer, 87, of Medford, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at his home. The service will be held later. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Applegate Christian Fellowship, School of Ministry Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1090, Jacksonville, OR 97530.

He was born May 5, 1913, in Sacramento, Calif., a son of Roland F. and Dorothy Keffer. On June 2, 1939, in Colusa County, Calif., he married Dorothy Witherspoon, who survives.

Mr. Keffer was a station operator for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Thomas, Yuba City, Calif.; two daughters, Diane Aarons, Medford, and Frances Maples, Yuba City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Althea and Gladys; and two brothers, Ceril and John.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Eugene Newsome

The funeral service for Eugene Newsome will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Newsome, 86, of Rogue River, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Valley West Care Center in Eugene.

He was born July 28, 1914, in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mr. Newsome served as chief warrant officer with the U.S. Coast Guard for 30 years, retiring in 1961.

He was a member of the Coast Guard Officers Association.

Mr. Newsome enjoyed model trains and working in his rose garden.

Survivors include his wife, Beth, Rogue River; two daughters, Jeanne Williamson, Santa Margarita, Calif., and Grace Yeakle, Los Osos, Calif.; a brother, Lloyd, in New Jersey; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley, Grants Pass.

Carroll Otte Munson

Carroll Otte Munson, 87, of Ashland, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Linda Vista Care Center. A private service will be held.

He was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Flatwillow, Mont., a son of Morris J. and Lydia F. Otte Munson. He attended Montana State College in Bozeman, and spent the rest of his life in Ashland. On March 9, 1940, in Roundup, Mont., he married Muriel A. Black, who survives.

Mr. Munson was the groundskeeper for Ashland School District.

He was president of the Montana Picnic Association and the Oregon School Employees Associates.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Paul E., Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Norman D., Ridgecrest, Calif., and Keith I., Ventura, Calif.; two daughters, Charlotte A. Munson and Annette R. Myers, both Federal Way, Wash.; three brothers, John F., Hamilton, Mont., Ivan W., Stevensville, Mont., and Gayle E., Victor, Mont.; a sister, Virgene M. Gamble, Salem; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Barbara Jean Mullicane

Barbara Jean Mullicane, 64, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held.

She was born June 17, 1936, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Donald Eugene and Helen Louise Myers. In September 1983, she married Leonard Joe Mullicane, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in August 1999 from Lake Elsinore, Calif.

Mrs. Mullicane was a supervisor in the note department for First Interstate Bank in Lake Elsinore, Calif.

She was a member of the Assembly of God in Lake Elsinore.

Mrs. Mullicane enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Allen Perry Mullicane and Michael Donald Zupancic, both Medford, and Larry Lee Mullicane, Allen, Okla.; a brother, Forrest Smith, Iowa Park, Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Randy Ray Mullicane; and a great-granddaughter.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Henry C. DeVries

The funeral service for Henry C. DeVries will be at 1 p.m. today at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Rev. Wayne Van Regenmorter will officiate. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls, S.D. Family and friends will gather for lunch and fellowship at the church following the committal service.

Mr. DeVries, 89, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Medford, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) in Sioux Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sioux Valley Hospital Hospice Program, 1100 S. Euclid St., Sioux Falls, S.D. 57105.

He was born July 9, 1911, in Holland Township, on a farm near Roseland, Minn., the son of W. J. and Hilda (Hoekstra) DeVries. He was educated at Roseland and attended the University of Minnesota at Morris. On May 13, 1939, in Willmar, Minn., he married Georgiana E. Morman, who survives.

Mr. DeVries worked for John W. Tuttle Lumberyard and the Omaha Railroad for a short time. He then worked for John Morrell and Company. He and his wife also lived on and operated the Morrell sheep farm for 32 years, retiring in 1975. In retirement the couple wintered in Medford with their two sons and their families, and spent summers with their daughter and family in Sioux Falls. They established a year-round home in Sioux Falls in 1997.

Mr. DeVries was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he sang in the choir, was a member of the church consistory and taught Sunday school, catechism and vacation Bible school. He was also a member of the men's fellowship and the senior fellowship group.

He was a volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission for 10 years and served on the board of directors. He was a member of the Morrell Retirees Club. During the winter months in Medford, he and his wife volunteered at Providence Medford Medical Center, St. Vincent de Paul Mission, and the Medford Gospel Mission. In Sioux Falls, they were active volunteers at Sioux Valley Hospital.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Wally, Medford, and Mike, Jacksonville; a daughter, Judy Roozenboom, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Helen Post, Willmar, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Richard and William; four sisters, Ida Roelofs, Johanna Damhof, Aukie Kamstra, and Winnie Kuiper.

Arrangements: George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Arla Mae Inda

The funeral service for Arla Mae Inda will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Medford Chapel. Interment will follow in Phoenix Cemetery.

Ms. Inda, 47, of Central Point, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born June 9, 1953, in Ashland, a daughter of James and Arline (Chambers) Noble. She married Tom O'Neill, who survives. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

Ms. Inda enjoyed gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Brier Stone, Medford, and Raul Inda, Central Point; three daughters, Brook Burfield, Medford, Toni Inda, Phoenix, and Wendy Inda, Corvallis; three sisters, Isabelle Quiroga, Eagle Point, Charlotte Lacy, Medford, and Rita Hampton, Chemult; three brothers, Charles White, Eagle Point, George White, Central Point, and Dean Noble, Redding, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris in Medford.
