Mildred Marley Beach

Mildred Marley Beach, 96, of Mount Angel, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (April 19, 2001) in Mount Angel. No service is planned.

She was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Oregon City, a daughter of Maria Emmott and George Marley. She attended Oregon City schools and studied teaching at Monmouth Normal School. In 1930, she married Charles Kenneth Beach, who died Feb. 9, 2001. They lived in Saudi Arabia for eight years, then moved to New York City. After her husband retired, they moved to Salem and then Mount Angel.

Mrs. Beach taught elementary school in Eastern Oregon. She later moved to Medford, where she was a member of the CP chapter of the philanthropic educational organization P.E.O.

Mrs. Beach enjoyed playing bridge and caring for her flower gardens in Medford.

Survivors include four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sallie.

Arrangements: Unger Funeral Chapel, Mount Angel.

Bob C. Reynolds

The graveside service for Bob C. Reynolds will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. Reynolds, 79, of Medford, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, c/o Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Isabell, S.D. His family moved to Medford when he was an infant. On July 1, 1947, in Reno, Nev., he married Yvonne Hiner, who died in 1998.

Mr. Reynolds owned and operated many businesses.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Reynolds was a Shriner and a member of the Medford Elks Lodge. He enjoyed owning and watching race horses.

Survivors include a daughter, Ronda Deffley, Springfield; a sister, Maretta Train, Shady Cove; a brother, Lee, Eagle Point; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Kathryn Julia Tomberlin

The memorial service for Kathryn Julia Tomberlin will be at 3 p.m. today at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Medford. Pastor Tim Olson will officiate. Interment will be in El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego.

Mrs. Tomberlin, 88, of Medford, died Friday (April 20, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God Church, Senior Ministry, 1225 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of William and Cora (Talbot) Parrish. On Oct. 15, 1934, in Texas, she married Arlee Tomberlin, who died in 1979.

Mrs. Tomberlin was a homemaker. She worked in a self-service laundry for several years. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from San Diego.

She was an active member of Bethel Assembly of God in Medford. She enjoyed sewing and baking, especially pies and cookies, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Tim, Salt Lake City; two daughters, Juanette Johnsen and Glenda Saavedra, both El Cajon, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie; and a daughter, Susette Kalbfell.

Weldon 'Tex' F. Goodin

The memorial service for Weldon "Tex" Franklin Goodin will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. A representative of Veterans for Veterans will officiate.

Mr. Goodin, 69, of Medford, died Friday (April 20, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 30, 1931, in Yukon, Okla., the son of Chester Thomas and Ethyl Mae West Goodin. He graduated from Caddo High School in Oklahoma. On May 20, 1956, in Medford, he married Joan Pence, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1967 from Vancouver, Wash.

Mr. Goodin was a pipe fitter for fire protection and sprinkler systems. He owned and operated Pacific Fire Sprinklers for seven years before retiring in 1994.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Goodin was a member of the Tyee Bow Club and was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed water skiing, camping, woodworking and welding.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Shane, Medford, and Garry, Mililani, Hawaii; two daughters, Melanie Worsham and Lori Lawson, both Medford; two brothers, Delton, Baytown, Texas, and Eldon, Marionville, Mo.; his stepmother, Bess Goodin, Cleveland, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Alma Dee Watkins

Alma Dee Watkins, 67, of Grants Pass, died Friday (April 20, 2001) at Fairview Transitional Health Center. The memorial service will be held later.

She was born May 1, 1933, in Sebree, Ky. On Jan. 6, 1950, in Henderson, Ky., she married George Watkins, who survives. They lived in Kentucky for 18 years. In 1968, they bought property in Grants Pass. They moved to Grants Pass in 1986, after retiring from the Bay area, where they had lived for 18 years.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, George Jr. and Stephen, both Grants Pass; three daughters, Susan Gail Schmitt, Grants Pass, Cynthia Mae Salmeri, Cameron Park, Calif., and Carol Denise Hamilton, Milpitas, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue Hood.

Ann Elizabeth Bergstrom

The memorial service for Ann Elizabeth Bergstrom will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Perl with Siskiyou Funeral Chapel in Medford.

Mrs. Bergstrom, 81, of Portland, formerly of Medford, died March 12, 2001, after a period of failing health.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born April 29, 1919, in Fresno, Calif., the second of four daughters of Thomas and Maude Brazill. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno and received her nursing degree in 1939 from Providence College of Nursing in Oakland, Calif. In 1944, she married David Hilding Bergstrom, who died in 1986.

Mrs. Bergstrom served briefly as a registered nurse in the U.S. Navy. After moving to Ashland and settling in the Medford area, she was a registered nurse for Providence Medford Medical Center for more than 25 years, retiring in the late 1970s.

She was also a nurse and leader for the Girl Scouts, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of the St. Anne Altar Society.

Mrs. Bergstrom was an active member of Sacred Heart parish when she moved to Summerfield retirement community in Tigard in 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Ingrid; a son, Dennis; and three grandchildren.

Donald C. Walker

Donald C. Walker, 83, of Lake Oswego, formerly of Ashland, died April 8, 2001, in Portland. The memorial service was held April 16 at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Portland. Interment was at Rose City Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Parkinson's Center of Oregon at Oregon Health Sciences University, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Suite 2200, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Portland, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Jefferson High School and the University of Oregon Law School. He lived in Ashland in 1937 and 1938 and worked for First National Bank in Ashland.

Mr. Walker was an attorney in private practice in Portland for more than 50 years. He was a secretary and legal adviser for the Portland Beavers.

Survivors include his son, David.

Javier Mitchell

Javier Mitchell, 28, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Thursday (April 19, 2001) in Las Vegas, Nev.

Mitchell was born April 17, 1973. He is survived by his mother, Ofelia Mitchell, three sisters and a brother.

The memorial service for Javier Mitchell will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford.

Arrangements: Desert Memorial, Las Vegas, Nev.
