Gladys Mae Long

The funeral service for Gladys Mae Long will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Central Point Stake Center. Bishop Ron Wells will officiate. Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mrs. Long, 75, of Central Point, died Sunday (April 1, 2001) at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Anthony, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Doris (Rife) Whitney. On Dec. 27, 1942, in Anthony, Kan., she married Asham Seymore Long, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Kansas.

Mrs. Long was long-term child-care provider in the Rogue Valley.

She enjoyed needlepoint and sewing.

Survivors include three daughters, Myrna Martin, Myrtle Creek, Brenda Monzie, Medford, and Sally Loper, Hermiston; two brothers, Roger Whitney, Moorland, Okla., and Wayne Whitney, Snohomish, Wash.; four sisters, Helen Hajer, Anthony, Kan., Charlotte Whitney, Amarillo, Texas, Phyllis Stobaugh, Trinity, Texas, and Betty Johnson, Purcell, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Friends may pay their respects at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

James Edward McDaniel

James Edward McDaniel, 80, of Jacksonville, died March 20, 2001. A private cremation is planned.

He was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Visalia, Calif., a son of John Curtis and Gertie Adel (Moore) McDaniel. The oldest of six children, he grew up in Farmersville, Calif., and attended school in Visalia, Calif.

Mr. McDaniel served in the U.S. Army, 5th Army Air Force Division, from 1939 to 1946. He then returned to Farmersville, Calif., and lived in Visalia until 1958, when he moved to the San Leandro/Santa Rosa area of California. He moved to Jacksonville in 1964.

Mr. McDaniel was a long-haul truck driver until his retirement.

Survivors include three sons, Larry E., Central Point, and Dusty and Jim, both in California; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Fernandes, Visalia, Calif.; three brothers, Tom, John and Robert Lee; and a sister, Doris Larkin. He was preceded in death by a son, Rex; and a brother, Richard.

Arrangements: Spencer, Libby and Powell/Smith Callaway, The Dalles.

Dottie Rose Vaughn

Dottie Rose Vaughn, 65, of Central Point, died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at her home. Private inurnment is planned at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dottie Davis on Feb. 1, 1936, in Salem. On April 18, 1972, in Reno, Nev., she married Kaye R. Vaughn, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Ukiah, Calif.

Mrs. Vaughn worked at 3M in White City for 10 to 12 years. She also worked in the dietary department at Providence Hospital for 15 years, and with her husband at Sambos Restaurant and Home Town Buffet.

She enjoyed gardening, birds and yardwork.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Teresa Lenhart, Medford; a stepson, Thomas Vaughn, Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Susan Day, Corvallis; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Warren Wilson Wagner

The memorial service for Warren Wilson Wagner will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Applegate Community Church.

Mr. Wagner, 77, of Applegate, died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Applegate Community Church, P.O. Box 3140, Applegate, OR 97530.

He was born April 21, 1923, in Portland. In 1969, in Carson City, Nev., he married Dorris Reed, who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Portland.

Mr. Wagner worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years.

He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.

Mr. Wagner enjoyed golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Lurene M. Helfrich, Des Moines, Wash.; three sons, Paul W., Bermuda Dunes, Calif., and John M. and Warren W. Jr., both Portland; a sister, Pauline Fantz, Portland; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lauren Champion.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Riley Charles Cook

The memorial service for Riley Charles Cook will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gold Hill United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jack Cornell will officiate.

Mr. Cook, 86, of Medford, died March 19, 2001 at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gold Hill United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 316, Gold Hill, OR 97525.

Delmar ‘Dick’ Kanne

The memorial service for Delmar I. "Dick" Kanne will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mr. Kanne, 82, of Salem, formerly of Medford, died Friday (March 30, 2001) of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born in Canby, and lived in the Medford area from 1953 to 1957. He moved to Salem in 1968 from Bend.

Mr. Kanne was an insurance adjuster and later a building contractor.

He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed golf, flying and traveling in his recreational vehicle.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Marcia Blair, Bend, and Rebecca Kanne, Salem; a son, Greg, Salem; two sisters, Maxine Eby, Oregon City, and Thelma Johnson, the Oregon Coast; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors, Salem.

Richard Schubert Arnold

The memorial service for Richard Schubert Arnold will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Church Episcopal in Lake Oswego.

Mr. Arnold, 62, of Lake Oswego, formerly of Klamath Falls and Medford, died Sunday (April 1, 2001) in Lake Oswego.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity, One Voice Production/Singing Christmas Tree, 11040 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Portland, OR 97219, or Christ Church Episcopal, 1060 Chandler Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97034.

He was born Aug. 22, 1938, in Klamath Falls.

The family moved to Medford when he was an infant. He received a bachelor’s degree in music from Lewis and Clark College in Portland.

In 1960, in Medford, he married Gail Leitch, who survives.

Mr. Arnold was a salesman in various industries. He also worked as a wine steward at Willamette Valley Vineyards. He retired in 2000.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Todd Schubert, San Francisco, and Colin Winslow, Beaverton; and a daughter, Ellen W. Arnold, Beaverton.

Arrangements: Young’s Funeral Home, Tigard.

Donna Marie Gavin

Donna Marie Gavin, 69, of Jacksonville, died Friday (March 30, 2001) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born March 24, 1932, in Yakima, Wash., the daughter of Floyd and Charolotte Fogelquist. On Nov. 2, 1952, in Medford, she married Walter H. Gavin, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948 from Washington.

Mrs. Gavin was an elementary school teacher. She also taught gifted and troubled children.

She served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mrs. Gavin was a member of the garden club.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, landscaping and reading.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Randel and Scott, both Klamath Falls, Ryan, Jacksonville, and Darren, Salem; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
