Edmund J. Olberding

The graveside service for Edmund Joseph Olberding will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Clifford of Shepherd of the Valley will officiate.

Mr. Olberding, 76, of Central Point, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, P.O. Box 96010, Washington, D.C. 20090-6010.

He was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Greenwald, Minn., a son of Frank and Mary Olberding. On Aug. 16, 1952, in Los Angeles, he married Beatrice Hunt, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Redding, Calif.

Mr. Olberding was a pipe insulator for asbestos, heat and frost insulation.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Olberding was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church.

He enjoyed gardening, listening to classical music and his dog.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Debbie Olberding, Medford, Jackie Flink, Murray, Utah, and Serene Nehls, Cottonwood, Calif.; two brothers, Fritz, Kansas City, Kan., and George, Minneapolis; two sisters, Angie Meyer, Sauk Centre, Minn., and Lillian Essler, Winthrop, Minn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Arthur.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Robert Gordon Germer

The memorial service for Robert Gordon Germer will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phoenix Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Germer, 70, of Medford, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Portland, OR 97219, or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born May 6, 1930, in Medford, a son of Walter and Margaret Germer. He attended school in Phoenix and at Southern Oregon University. On Dec. 26, 1951, in Phoenix, he married M. Jane MacKintosh, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.

Mr. Germer worked for Pacific Power and Light for 36˝ years, retiring in 1992.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955.

Mr. Germer was a member of Scottish Rite of Medford, a life member of Medford Blue Lodge No. 103, a member of Hillah Temple of Medford, a past member of Ashland Elks for 45 years, and a member of the Oregon State Apprenticeship and Training Council for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his workshop.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Douglas, Denver, and David, Troutdale; and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth Kirkpatrick

A memorial service will be held later for Elizabeth Ann Cowan Kirkpatrick.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick, 92, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at the Rogue Valley Manor, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to a church or synagogue of choice.

She was born Elizabeth Ann Cowan on July 25, 1908, in Paullina, Iowa. On Nov. 23, 1938, in Kansas City, Mo., she married David Easton Kirkpatrick, who died in 1996. The Kirkpatricks moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, and Northwestern University in Chicago before going to work for the Montgomery Ward Co. In 1967, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick also worked as a homemaker, piano teacher and school teacher in Yellow Springs, Ohio, for many years. She was active in the Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday school superintendent and elder.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas, Medford, and David, Vancouver, British Columbia; two daughters, Susan A. Coons, Santa Rosa, Calif., and Edith A. Richmond, Carmichael, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Thomas M. Caldwell

The funeral mass for Thomas M. Caldwell will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point.

Mr. Caldwell, 72, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s School Community Foundation, 816 Black Oak Drive, Medford, OR 97504, or to a charity of choice.

Mr. Caldwell was born April 28, 1928, in Delaware, Ohio. He grew up in Delaware and Southern California. On May 27, 1948, he married Mary H. Sullivan, who survives. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Ontario, Calif.

In Ontario, Mr. Caldwell was a rancher and an auction yard operator who served as one of the founding members of the California Auctioneer’s Association. He was director of auctions in Keeneland, Ky., and directed many horse sales, including his own. In Eagle Point, Mr. Caldwell raised cattle and thoroughbred horses.

Mr. Caldwell joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 and was a sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers, where he served as the then-youngest harbor master in Anchorage, Alaska.

Mr. Caldwell was an avid angler and a hunter and was active in 4-H activities.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Georganna Happel and Karen Hammonds of Eagle Point; two sons, Cris of Eagle Point and Scott of San Clemente, Calif.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and 45 nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth V. Buehring

A gathering of family and friends has been held for Elizabeth Viola Buehring. Inurnment will be at the Cottage Grove Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn.

Mrs. Buehring, 83, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at Hearthstone nursing facility in Medford.

She was born Elizabeth Viola Pedrow on Oct. 14, 1917, in St. Paul, Minn. On July 8, 1938, in St. Paul, she married Arnold Buehring, who died in 1999. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Billings, Mont.

Mrs. Buehring was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, painting and playing cards. She was a member of the Pinochle Card Club.

Survivors include a son, Rex, Billings; two daughters, Bonnie Higdon, Central Point, and Judy Lynn, Gresham; a brother; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Gladys Thompson

Friends and family gathered this week at the First Presbyterian Church to remember Gladys Ann Thompson. No additional service is planned.

Mrs. Thompson, 63, of Medford, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford.

Mrs. Thompson was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Bellingham, Wash. On Sept. 17, 1955, she married James Thompson, who survives. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from Virginia Beach, Va.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also active with the Jackson County Extension Service and the Dabblers group. She enjoyed stamping and was an avid reader.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Cheryl Kennedy, Lake Oswego, and Lynda Watkins, Tahlequah, Okla.; a son, James, Morgan Hill, Calif.; two sisters, Judy Reiber, Bellingham, and Evelyn Yelton, Emmett, Idaho; a brother, Allen Pace, Milwaukie; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandson.

Frances M. Brazil

A memorial service for Frances Mascotte McMaster (Williams) Brazil will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Gardens. Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate. Inurnment will be at Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Brazil, 97, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at Hearthstone.

She was born Frances McMaster on Feb. 23, 1904, in Lampassas County, Texas. In 1955, she married Herbert David Brazil. Mrs. Brazil moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago from Juneau, Alaska.

Mrs. Brazil was a 1924 graduate of Commercial College in Austin, Texas, and worked as an executive secretary and office manager. She was a life member of Pioneers of Alaska (Anchorage), a member and district staff officer of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Juneau, Alaska, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 8, of Anchorage, Alaska, and FAA in Anchorage and Juneau.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Mack H. Williams, New Orleans; a daughter, Kelse James "KJ" Williams, Palestine, Texas; a sister, Faye White, Corpus Christi, Texas; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.
