Joan A. Hutton

A memorial service for Joan A. Hutton will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate.

Mrs. Hutton, 75, of Shady Cove, died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Augusta Larson. In April of 1945 in Glendale, Calif., she married Richard Hutton, who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley nearly 15 years ago from Hillsboro. She also had lived in Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint, Idaho.

Mrs. Hutton was employed at Century Pharmacy in Hillsboro, retiring in 1987.

She attended the Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Hutton was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan who enjoyed reading, walking and her dog.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Randy Hutton of Medford, and Terry Lee Hutton of Spring, Texas; a brother, Dean Larson of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral, Medford.

Alice Jean Brown

A graveside service for Alice Jean Brown will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery, where family members will host a time of sharing.

Mrs. Brown, 80, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000) at Hearthstone in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to ACCESS, Inc., Community Action Agency, P.O. Box 4666, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Feb. 6, 1920, to Carl and Jennie (Whitney) Grossman in McCloud, Calif. In December of 1956 in Medford, she married Charles A. Brown, who survives.

Mrs. Brown lived in the Rogue Valley after moving from California in 1930. A graduate of Ashland High School, Mrs. Brown began teaching when she was 17.

She later attended college at San Francisco State and graduated from Chico State College in California. She obtained her master’s degree from Southern Oregon College.

Specializing in primary education, Mrs. Brown taught in California, Ashland, Jacksonville and Medford until retirement.

She was a sergeant in the Marine Corps and served as a personnel specialist during World War II.

Mrs. Brown was involved with the Shakespeare Theater in Ashland and enjoyed plays, music and recitations.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Ronald Ward of Eugene; two brothers, Henry Grossman of Medford and Jim Grossman of Bend, two sisters, Dorothy Peterson of San Jose, Calif., and Katharine Anderson of Leaburg; and one grandchild.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Mary Louise Counts

At her request, no service will be held for Mary Louise Counts, 58, of Medford. Mrs. Counts died Thursday (Dec. 21, 2000).

Memorial contributions can be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501-1518.

Mrs. Counts was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Mojave, Calif. She lived in Lakeview, married John Counts and moved to Medford.

She was an artist who loved stray animals and helping people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cap and Lillie Williams.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 42 years, include a son, Kevin, of Oak Harbor, Wash., a daughter, Debbie, of Portland; three sisters, Jean, Donnie and Kay; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Helmuth J. Engel

The funeral Mass for Helmuth J. Engel will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The Rev. Liam Cary will preside.

Mr. Engel, 82, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000) at Hearthstone, Medford.

He was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Parkston, S.D. to Frederick F. Engel and Christina Hoffman Engel. Mr. Engel moved to the Rogue Valley from Mesa, Ariz. He had previously lived in Wisconsin and South Dakota.

On July 17, 1946, he married Esther Gerlach Engel.

He enjoyed gunsmithing, fishing, hunting, and repairing watches.

Mr. Engle retired in 1973 from the Rogue Valley Irrigation District. He was previously a farmer and had worked in manufacturing and as a gas station attendent. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater.

Survivors include his wife and a sister, Violet Johnson, Sioux City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Salvatore Santangelo

Salvatore Santangelo, 71, of Portland, formerly of Medford, died Dec. 14, 2000, in Oregon City. A private service will be held.

He was born March 4, 1929, in Staten Island, N.Y.

Mr. Santangelo was a truck driver with Bakers Commodities. He lived in Medford for many years, moving to Portland in 1998.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel, Medford, Robert, Portland, and Michael, Grants Pass; a daughter, Diane Santangelo, Ontario, Calif.; two brothers, Louis and Phil, and a sister, Jean Landsmar, all Staten Island, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, in 1993.

Arrangements: Omega Funeral and Cremation Service, Portland.

Wilda Mae Music

The memorial service for Wilda Mae Music will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Phoenix Church of Christ. The graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Rev. Dave Humphries will officiate.

Mrs. Music, 77, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 21, 2000) at her home.

She was born July 6, 1923, in Apache, Okla., a daughter of Rufus and Ola Jones. On Nov. 23, 1940, in Canute, Okla., she married Everett Benjamin Music, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Oklahoma 56 years ago.

Mrs. Music was a homemaker.

She played basketball with the "Redheads, " a women’s basketball team, and enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Gene, Medford, and Everett, Phoenix; a daughter, Mary Armstrong, Central Point; three brothers, Jack Jones, Eagle Point, Jesse Jones, Oklahoma City, and Tim Jones, Perryton, Texas; four sisters, Rose Hunter, Medford, Sue Zachery, Granite, Okla., Edna Ford, in Maryland, and Darlene LeMoine, Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Furbee, in 1999.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Anna Elizabeth Carrigan

The funeral Mass for Anna Elizabeth Carrigan will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The graveside service will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carrigan, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 21, 2000) at her home.

She was born Anna Lach on April 3, 1912, in Minneapolis. On Jan. 24, 1931, in Minneapolis, she married Eugene B. Carrigan, who died in 1966. They moved to the Rogue Valley 55 years ago from Columbia Heights, Minn.

Mrs. Carrigan attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She enjoyed reading, playing cards and dice games and trips to Reno.

Survivors include three sons, Gordon R., and David L., both Medford, and Jim, Central Point; four daughters, Joyce Bain, Medford, Debbie Crippen, Central Point, Marlene Lunsford, Redmond, and Joanne Trautman, Plains, Mont.; a brother, Henry Lach, Minneapolis; four sisters, Stella Hudak, Agnes Edel, Amelia Schulze and Wanda Kilchesky, all Minneapolis; 26 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger E.; two brothers, Peter Lach, and her twin, John Lach; and a sister, Rose Hudak.

Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
