Gracia Barton Ives

Gracia Barton Ives, 98, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 19, 2000) at her foster home in Medford. The memorial service will be held later in Centralia, Wash.

She was born Nov. 13, 1902, in Helena, Mont., the daughter of Horace and Lydia Barton. She was a 1920 graduate of Central High School in Washington. She married Carol Ives. They later divorced.

During World War II and for many years after, she worked for Stevens Cleaners. After her retirement to Medford, she managed apartments.

She was a former president of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Centralia, Wash., Chapter, and a member of the National American Women’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include three grandsons, David John Ives, Medford, Douglas B. Ives, Hillsboro, and Dr. Jeffrey D. Ives, Guam; a granddaughter, Lisa Ives, Medford; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lt. Rodney B. Ives, who died in a B-24 crash in England in 1944, and David G. Ives, in 1991.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Anna J. Kruegar

The funeral for Anna J. Kruegar will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain John Braund of Rogue Valley Hospice will officiate.

Mrs. Kruegar, 97, of Talent, died Tuesday (Dec. 19, 2000) at Farmington Square.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 135 Center Road, Box 559, Dudley, MA 01571-0559.

She was born Jan. 20, 1903, in Worchester, Mass., a daughter of Carl J. And Maria (Josefson) Anderson. On Dec. 2, 1922, in Dudley, Mass., she married Carl Kruegar, who died in 1968.

The Kruegars owned and operated a custom farm and poultry ranch. Mrs. Kruegar also worked at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge, Mass., and at a greeting card company in Webster, Mass.

She was a World War II Gold Star Mother, and a member of the First Congregational Church in Dudley, Mass., where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Sr., Sturbridge, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Walter; a daughter, Pearl Ford; three brothers, Carl, Hemming and Waldemar Anderson; and two sisters, Helga Anderson and Elida Wood.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Evelyn I. Martin

The memorial service for Evelyn I. Martin will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Community Church in Williams. Interment will be in Gotcher Cemetery in Williams.

Mrs. Martin, 76, of Salem, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 19, 2000) in Salem, of cancer.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Home, 1566 Ewald Ave. S.E., Salem, OR 97302, or Williams Community Church, Williams, OR 97544.

She was born July 13, 1924, in Hazelton, N.D. She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1943. On Aug. 16, 1944, she married Thomas Floyd Martin, who survives.

Mrs. Martin was a department manager at American Fruit Growers in Medford for many years. She lived in Medford for more than 20 years, moving to Salem in 1969.

She was a member of Morning Star Community Church in Salem.

Mrs. Martin enjoyed golf, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and family, and hosting and attending garage sales.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, John, Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Dellas Waters, Williams; a brother, David Kurtz, Yuma, Ariz.; and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eyman Kurtz; and a sister, Dorothy Skoog.

Arrangements: Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors, Salem.

Jo Dean Carr

The funeral service for Jo Dean Carr will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, 649 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. The Rev. Hartley Barns will officiate. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carr, 73, of Central Point, died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000) at Hearthstone in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Jo Dean Howe Dec. 25, 1926, in Shawnee, Okla. On Dec. 31, 1945, in Los Angeles, she married James E. Carr, who survives.

The couple lived in the Rogue Valley 11 years after moving from McKinleyville, Calif., where Mrs. Carr worked for Ron’s Rexall drug store for 25 years.

She was an avid reader and traveler in the United States and abroad, visiting Europe, Russia, Australia and Mexico.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Joyce E. Carr, Yakima, Wash., and Jeanne E. Carr, McKinleyville, Calif.; two sons, James E. Carr Jr., of Aptos, Calif., and Joey W. Carr; five sisters, Anne Daniels, Stockton, Calif., Doris Barnard, Central Point, Reba Thiess, Oceanside, Calif., Maxine Danyluk, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and Yvonne Williams, Yucca Flats, Calif.; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Gerald, and Aubrey Howe; and three sisters, Velma Laucks, Aileen McNicholas and Gertrude Perry.

Friends may pay their repsects from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rogue Valley Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Mable Urano

The remembrance service for Mable Urano will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford.

Mrs. Urano, 76, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 21, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 SE Spokane, Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202.

She was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Windsor, Colo., a daughter of Zunosuke and Misayo Ishiguro.

Her husband, James A. Urano, died July 17, 1999.

A homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, golf and playing bridge and poker.

Survivors include two sons, R. Keith Urano, Fairfax, Va., and James A. Urano, Arlington, Va.; four brothers, Harry Ishiguro, Reno, Nev., Fred, Fig and Kim Ishiguro; two sisters, Ruth Roberts, Medford, and Sumi Mizuno, Oxnard, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Norman. J. Lewis

Norman J. Lewis, 89, of Shady Cove, died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000) at Hearthstone Manor, Medford. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 95 Cleveland St., Shady Cove, OR 97539.

He was born Jan. 24, 1911, in Portland, a son of George B. and Emma Lewis. He lived in the Rogue Valley for 25 years after moving from Fresno, Calif.

On June 1, 1963, in Reno, Nev., he married Mildred Kuehn, who survives.

Mr. Lewis worked for many years at the Sacramento Bee in Sacramento, Calif., as a photo engraver.

He belonged to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, the Moose Lodge in Fresno, Calif., and the photo engravers union. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Norman Lewis Jr., Fresno, and Charles Lewis, Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conber-Morris Funeral Directors of Medford.

Bernice Ida Finch

The funeral for Bernice Ida Finch will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. The Rev. Bob Williams of Apostolic Faith Church in Medford will officiate. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Finch, 98, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane, Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202.

She was born Bernice Garland on Aug. 14, 1902, in Waterloo, Iowa. On Sept. 18, 1944, in Reno, Nev., she married Donald K. Finch, who died in 1995. She lived in Klamath Falls from 1927 to 1945, and in Harbor from 1967 to 1978, when she moved to Medford.

Mrs. Finch was a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Brookings. She had been a member of the Order of Amaranth and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed crafts, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice Theis, Medford; 10 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Laverne Mead, and a son, Robert Mead.
