Florence P. Shafer

Florence P. Shafer, 85, of Sams Valley, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at her son’s home in Sams Valley. The memorial service will be held when the wildflowers bloom next spring.

She was born July 25, 1915, in Derby, a daughter of Lawrence and Alice Conger. On July 2, 1936, in Medford, she married Frank E. Shafer, who died in 1992.

Mrs. Shafer was a homemaker. During the 1960s, she worked as a tree planter for Boise-Cascade. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

She was a member of the Cascade Gorge Christian Church, was a founding member of the Prospect Garden Club and was a 4-H leader.

Mrs. Shafer was an avid flower gardener. She enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge.

Survivors include two sons, Cleve, Sams Valley, and Raymond, Central Point; a daughter, Roma Wridge, Oregon City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Irene G. Haas

The memorial service for Irene G. Haas will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Haas, 60, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 19, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane, Suite 110, Portland, OR 97219.

She was born Irene Geisler on Sept. 26, 1940, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She graduated from Madison High School in Portland in 1959. On April 7, 1960, in Portland, she married Allen C. Haas, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Portland.

Mrs. Haas was a homemaker.

She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Allen C., Medford, and Robert G. and James L., both Central Point; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery Paul.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Faye Mable Ponder

The funeral for Faye Mable Ponder will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Central Valley Chapel. Pastor Jonathon Prestage of The Father’s House Church of God in Christ will officiate. Interment will follow in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Ponder, 77, of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Father’s House Church of God in Christ, 1505 Sage Road, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born June 5, 1923, in Marshall, Ark., a daughter of George and Tamer Halstead. On Dec. 27, 1943, in Marshall, she married Ira Ponder, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Oklahoma.

Mrs. Ponder was a cook at Rogue Valley Manor, Mon Desir and the Medford Hotel.

She was a member of Faith Tabernacle and The Father’s House Church of God in Christ.

Mrs. Ponder enjoyed cooking, needlework, flower gardening and reading the Bible.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Robert and Roger, both Medford; three daughters, Iris Reagan and Linda Hanson, both Medford, and Glenda Miller, Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Earl Halstead, Russellville, Ark.; a sister, Dessie Bohannon, Marshall; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, eight brothers and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Betty Elva Bratton

The graveside service for Betty Elva Bratton will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Klamath Memorial Park, 2680 Memorial Drive, Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Bratton, 84, of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at Hearthstone.

She was born March 16, 1916, in Spokane, Wash., the daughter of Merle and Bernice Nicodemus. On June 27, 1937, in Klamath Falls, she married George W. Bratton Jr., who survives. They lived in Klamath Falls and Lakeview before moving to the Rogue Valley in 1962.

Mrs. Bratton was a secretary for her husband at Bratton Packing Co. in Klamath Falls, and for Southern Oregon Health Services in Medford, retiring in 1967.

She was a master duplicate bridge player and was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, the Reames Country Club in Klamath Falls and the Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford. She was also active in the PTA, Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls.

Mrs. Bratton enjoyed sewing, entertaining, golf and reading.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, George W. III, Sunnyvale, Calif.; two daughters, Elva Bernice Bratton, Hillsboro, and Sally Ilene Bratton, Fremont, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

E. Bonnie McCabe

The memorial service for E. Bonnie McCabe will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Brookside Chapel. Bishop Doug Dalton will officiate. Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver, Wash.

Ms. McCabe, 69, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Hearthstone.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Dialysis, Patient Fund, 2868 Creekside Circle, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born May 24, 1931, in Vancouver, Wash. She lived in the Rogue Valley for three years.

Ms. McCabe enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts and cooking.

Survivors include three daughters, Bobbie Jo Bealer, Medford, Deanna Higson, Ojai, Calif., and Tammi Moody, Apple Valley, Calif.; a son, Jeffery Schrick, Medford; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson in 1972.

Mildred Roberta Yardley

The graveside service for Mildred Roberta Yardley will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Yardley, 94, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Mildred Sears on Oct. 23, 1906, in Arlington, Wash. She moved to the Rogue Valley in the late 1920s. In 1962, in Medford, she married Marvin Yardley, who died in 1986.

Mrs. Yardley was a pear packer for several local growers for many years before her retirement.

She was a member of the Navy Mothers from 1949 to 1952.

Mrs. Yardley enjoyed gardening, water-witching, and collecting irons and rocks.

Survivors include a son, Ted Kenton, Medford; a daughter, Roberta Ward, Ashland; a sister, Burl Hickson, Eagle Point; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Elwood, and a grandson.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Jack W. Jermain

Jack W. Jermain, 89, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) at his home. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Fire Department No. 4, P.O. Box 1400, Shady Cove, OR 97539.

He was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Phoenix, Ariz. He first came to the Rogue Valley in a covered wagon. On March 24, 1933, in Riverside, Calif., he married Martha F. Jenner, who survives.

Mr. Jermain was a water treatment operator for Kaiser Steel in Fontana, Calif. He returned to the Rogue Valley in 1974 from San Bernardino, Calif.

He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jack J., Shady Cove; and a daughter, Doris F. Blankinship, Shady Cove; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dick, and a great-great-grandson.
