Mildred Evelyn Bray

The graveside service for Mildred Evelyn Bray will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Medford Eastwood IOOF Cemetery. Pastor Lee Gregory of Medford Neighborhood Church will officiate.

Mrs. Bray, 94, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) at Hearthstone.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Neighborhood Church, 1819 Stewart Ave., Medford, OR 97501, or to a favorite charity.

She was born Sept. 14, 1906, in Phoenix, a daughter of Lemuel and Lilly (Roberts) Hughes. On Oct. 21, 1947, in Reno, Nev., she married Joseph Bray, who survives.

Mrs. Bray worked as a seasonal fruit packer. She retired from Woolworth’s, where she worked at the lunch counter. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

She was a member of the Medford Neighborhood Church, the Phoenix First Presbyterian Church and the Ashland Pinochle Club.

Mrs. Bray enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, sewing and her family.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Joyce Marshall Lull, Central Point, and Patricia Marshall Fixson, Medford; a stepdaughter, Jo Helen Bray, Altus, Okla.; a sister, Margaret Long, Phoenix; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson and her first husband, Edward Marshall.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Jane Newcomer Gorrell

The memorial service for Jane Elizabeth Newcomer Gorrell will be at 1 p.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. John Braund of Rogue Valley Hospice will officiate.

Mrs. Gorrell, 91, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice Service, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born June 15, 1909, in Gillette, Wyo. Her family moved to Pomona, Calif., when she was 4 years old. She was educated at the University of California, Los Angeles, and received her teaching credentials from Broad Oaks Teacher College.

In 1944, she married Earl "Doug" Parks Gorrell, who survives. They moved to Jacksonville in 1977 and to a home closer to the Rogue Valley Country Club in 1988.

Mrs. Gorrell was an elementary school teacher, primarily for kindergarten and first grade.

She was active in community volunteer work and studied metaphysics, psychology and numerology, which helped with her work as a personal counselor. She enjoyed helping others to understand their strengths and life challenges.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Jane Elizabeth Gorrell Robinson and Mary Catherine Gorrell; a sister, Catherine Berta Newcomer Lattin; and two grandchildren.

Charles L. Main

The memorial service for Charles L. Main will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in McMinnville. Pastor Doug Rose will officiate. Interment will be private.

Mr. Main, 84, of McMinnville, formerly of Medford, died Dec. 3, 2000, at Rock of Ages in McMinn-ville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Nature Conservative in care of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 North Evans, McMinnville, OR 97128-4682.

He was born June 2, 1916, in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, the son of Charles and Florence (Young) Main.

He was raised in Portland and graduated from Benson Polytechnical High School. He received a degree in industrial engineering from Oregon State University. On July 21, 1941, in Los Angeles, he married Mildred Buckles, who survives.

Mr. Main worked for Lockheed Aircraft. He also worked as an engineer for Pacific Northwest Bell for many years, first in Portland, then in Medford. He retired in 1972.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war he moved to Portland. He moved to Medford in 1952 and to McMinn-ville in 1989.

As a young man, he was a member of the violin section of the Portland Junior Symphony.

Mr. Main enjoyed fishing, camping, working on autos and classical music.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Janice Main, Tigard; a son, Richard, Salem; two brothers, Gordon, Portland, and Robert, Gig Harbor, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Betty C. Wheat

The funeral for Betty C. Wheat will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Chapel in Ashland. The Rev. Don Baker will officiate. Interment will follow at Ashland Cemetery.

Mrs. Wheat, 82, of Ashland, died Thursday (Dec. 14, 2000) of injuries suffered in a fall at her home.

She was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Ashland, a daughter of Otto R. and Ola L. (Dunlap) Miller. She attended schools in Ashland, Oakland, Calif., and Portland. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1936, and briefly attended what is now Southern Oregon University.

In 1937, she married John A. See. They later divorced. In 1940, she married Ned Mars. They divorced in 1965. In 1983, she married Robert Louis Wheat, who died in 1999.

Following World War II, Mrs. Wheat was active in the Red Cross and worked in the Southern Pacific dispatcher’s office in Klamath Falls.

She and her second husband, Ned Mars, were in the furniture and appliance business in Ashland and lived for a while in San Francisco and La Jolla, Calif., where they worked in real estate and insurance.

In 1960, Mrs. Wheat returned to what is now Southern Oregon University and became the administrative assistant to Dr. Charles Ivey in 1963. After other promotions within the college, she retired in 1981.

She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Nile, the Tudor Guild, and in recent years, the BN Chapter of PEO, a women’s service club, where she had served as past president.

Survivors include two nephews, Michael Miller, Ashland, and Patrick Miller, Saugus, Calif.; two grand-nephews; six stepchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects at noon Wednesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Dorothy Irene Vega

The memorial service for Dorothy Irene Vega will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Chapel in Ashland. Brother Elliott Lovelace, of Talent Bible Baptist Chapel, will officiate.

Mrs. Vega, 79, of Rogue River, died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2000) in Ashland.

She was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Forest Grove Township, Minn., a daughter of Fred Ezekiel and Rebecca Mae (Hart) Dexter. She attended school in Chiloquin. In July 1937, in Klamath Falls, she married Bingo Vega, who died in 1990.

Mrs. Vega was a homemaker and member of the Rogue River Community Center.

Survivors include a son, Jim, Rogue River; a daughter, Barbara Sanchez, Valley Springs, Calif.; three brothers, Marshall, Enumclaw, Wash., Donald, Milwaukie, and Leonard, San Bernardino, Calif.; three sisters, Donis Hawkins, Klamath Falls, Donna Cunningham, Ashland, and Nancy Michaelis, Talent; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Archie.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Joan Marie Juenger

A private family service will be held for Joan Marie Juenger, of Medford, who died Thursday (Dec. 14, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. She was 58.

Mrs. Juenger was born Feb. 2, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska, a daughter of Vasile and Alice Kiscoan. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from Orange, Calif.

In July 1990, in Medford, she married Michael Juenger, who died in 1997.

She worked for Southern Oregon Linen Service in White City. She also had worked as a cook for the schools.

Survivors include two sons, Danny J. Tuffey, of Torrance, Calif., and Jay Cee Haveger, of Medford; a daughter, Debra Tuffey, of Seattle; her mother, Alice Kiscoan, of Central Point, twin brother Jim Kiscoan, of Junction City, and sister, Judith Godfrey, of Central Point; and three grandchildren. In addition to her husband, her father preceded her in death, in 1990.

Aurora R. Kahn

The graveside service for Aurora R. Kahn will be at noon Sunday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland. Rabbi Jacqueline Brodsky will officiate.

Ms. Kahn, 68, of Ashland, died Thursday (Dec. 14, 2000) at Ashland Community Hospital.

She was born Jan. 23, 1932, in Jamaica, N.Y. She graduated from Queens College in Queens, N.Y.

Ms. Kahn was a teacher in Brentwood and Freeport, N.Y., where she also became a real estate broker. She retired in 1998, and moved to Ashland in 1999.

She was a lifetime member of the Hadassah, serving as president for five years.

Ms. Kahn enjoyed watercolor painting, ceramics and bowling.

Survivors include three daughters, Dannette Catropa, Ashland, Dianna Kahn, Davis, Calif., and Deborah Kahn, New York, N.Y.; a brother, Virgil Rosalez, Bayville, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
