Dick Cogdell

Dick Cogdell, 83, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 2, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Memory Gardens Mortuary. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born June 15, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo. On Oct. 9, 1938, in Douglas, Wyo., he married Georgia McCoubrey, who survives.

Mr. Cogdell was a stock controller for the Federal Aviation Agency in Anchorage, Alaska for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Anchorage.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Cogdell was a member of the Methodist church.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and dancing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Nancy Halverson, Medford; two sons, Richard F. Cogdell, Eagle River, Alaska, and George Halverson, Medford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Delsa Delma Bartlett

The graveside service for Delsa Delma Bartlett will be at 3 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bartlett, 74, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Three Rivers Community Hospital’s Washington Campus.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Association of Oregon, P.O. Box 222, Portland, OR 97207.

She was born Delsa DeRoboam on Aug. 7, 1926, in Carey, Idaho. She moved to Grants Pass in 1943, and married Ralph Howard Bartlett in 1944. He died in 1971.

Mrs. Bartlett lived in Alaska for three years where she helped operate a fishing boat, but she was primarily a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening, playing guitar and ukulele, drawing, and hosting family gatherings.

Survivors include a daughter, Delra Abreau of Grants Pass; three sons, Ralph A., Medford, and Michael S. and Patrick Carey, both Grants Pass; a sister, Charlene Hess, Grants Pass; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her companion of 25 years, James Stolebarger, in 1999.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 2 p.m. today at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Blanche Minear Lininger

The graveside service for Blanche Minear Lininger will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland. The memorial service will be held at La Verne Church of the Brethren in La Verne, Calif. on Oct. 23.

Mrs. Lininger, 104, former longtime resident of the Rogue Valley, died Sept. 28, 2000, in La Verne, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of Hillcrest Homes, 2705 Mountain View Drive, La Verne, CA 91750, or to Heifer Project International, P.O. Box 808, Little Rock, AR 72203-9907.

She was born in Rhodes, Iowa, the daughter of Lorenzo D. and Luly Belle Minear. She was two years old when her family moved to Southern Oregon. After short stays in Ashland and Jacksonville, the family moved to a farm southeast of Jacksonville on South Stage Road.

On April 8, 1920, she married Bruce Milton Lininger, who died in 1952. They lived in Ashland until 1941, when they moved to Medford. She had been a resident of La Verne, Calif., since 1966.

Mrs. Lininger was a homemaker and avid gardener.

A lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, she served the church in numerous ways up until her 90s.

She enjoyed sewing, photography, travel and writing poetry.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret and Ruth, both La Verne, Calif. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine, in March 2000.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Alice Jane Thoreson

A celebration of the life of Alice Jane Thoreson will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at her daughter’s home, 1248 Eureka Circle, Medford.

Mrs. Thoreson, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Bradley, S.D., the daughter of Charles and Mildred Stacey. On Nov. 3, 1935, she married Keith V. Thoreson, who died in 1989. Following her husband’s death and her subsequent illness, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Medford.

Mrs. Thoreson worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Talent for 30 years, serving as Postmaster for the last 11 years. She retired in 1975.

Following her husband’s retirement in 1980, they traveled extensively. She enjoyed bowling, golf, sewing and cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Mullin, Medford; a son, Gordon, Glendale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Wayne W. Heard

The memorial service for Wayne W. Heard will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mr. Heard, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

He was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Cedarville, Calif., a son of Noel W. and Lena (Hobbs) Heard. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1924, where he attended Ashland schools and graduated from Ashland High School.

In 1934, he married Joan Mosier, who died in 1970. In 1970, he married Dorothy McNerney, who died in 1992. In 1992, he married Neva Lohman, who survives.

Mr. Heard was a former farmer, rancher and barber in the Ashland area until his retirement in 1978.

He was a past member of the Masonic and Elks Lodges.

Mr. Heard enjoyed his horses and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Buzz, Central Point, and Fred, Trail; a daughter, Marlene Blanding, Yuma, Ariz.; a brother, Weldon, Roseburg; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Bonnie Sue Medina

The memorial service for Bonnie Sue Medina will be at 7 p.m. today at 4582 Table Rock Road, Central Point.

Ms. Medina, 42, of Medford, died Tuesday, (Oct. 3, 2000) in Medford.

She was born Bonnie Sue Eutsey on July 26, 1958, in Casper, Wyo. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1997 from Royal City, Wash.

Ms. Medina was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Church in Medford.

She enjoyed making "dream catchers, " Mexican music, her cats, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelleni Camacho, Medford; three sons, Celestino Rodriguez, Lexington, Ky., and Juan Medina and Cruz Angel Medina, both Royal City, Wash.; three brothers, Roy Eutsey, in Connecticut, Doyle Tabor in California, and William Thrasher, Walhalla, S.C.; three sisters, Linda Thrasher, Walhalla, S.C., Kathy Fletes, Central Point, and Frances Livingston, Medford; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Chadwell, in 1997.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Darrell Wayne Armstead

The memorial service for Darrell Wayne Armstead will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Medford Moose Lodge. Pastor Jim Larsen will officiate.

Mr. Armstead, 58, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to IBEW Local 659, Brotherhood Fund, 4480 Rogue Valley Highway, Suite 3, Central Point, OR 97502, or Mooseheart Orphanage c/o Medford Moose Lodge No. 178, 226 N. Ross Lane, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born June 8, 1942, in Pampa, Texas. He completed the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) apprenticeship program.

On Oct. 2, 1993, in Medford, he married Elaine Gebard, who survives.

Mr. Armstead was a journeyman lineman.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years, and in the National Guard for three years.

Mr. Armstead was a member of the Medford Moose Lodge and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Darrell, Fresno, Calif.; four stepsons, Allen Surgeon, Central Point, Rod Surgeon, Lake Tahoe, Scott Surgeon, Medford, and Todd Surgeon, Lake Tahoe; a daughter, Carol Criswell, Arcata, Calif.; three granddaughters; nine step-granddaughters; and six step-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father, Jake W. Armstead; his mother, Laverne; and a brother, Rocky D. Armstead.
