Robert Horvath
The funeral mass for Robert Thomas Horvath will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2000) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Conger Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
The memorial graveside service for Robert Thomas Horvath will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Horvath, 20, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) in a motorcycle accident in Medford.
He was born May 12, 1980, in Los Gatos, Calif. He lived in the Rogue Valley 12 years, moving from Milpitas, Calif. He attended North Medford High School and moved to Portland in May.
He enjoyed muscle cars, mountain bikes, golf and motorcycles.
Survivors are his mother, Marie E. Horvath, Medford, his father, Laszlo Horvath, Pacific City; a sister, Veronika Horvath, Portland; and his maternal grandparents, George and Marie Beuselinkck, of Saratoga, Calif. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Alma Mitchell
The memorial service for Alma L. Mitchell will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2000) at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will follow at the Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland.
Mrs. Mitchell, 85, died Thursday at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 11, 1914, in Noble, Ark., a daughter of Tommy and Josephine (Verbel) Myers.
On Dec. 2, 1930, in Noble, Ark., she married Charles Leonard Mitchell, who died in 1974. The couple moved to Ashland in 1943.
Mrs. Mitchell worked in food service with the Ashland School District, retiring in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Cleatis Mitchell, Clackamas; a daughter, Ramona G. Fletcher, Reno, Nev.; two sisters, Helen Childers, Arkansas, and Goldie Whitson, Missouri; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Claudia Arrington
The memorial service for Claudia Sue Arrington will be at 1 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 26, 2000) at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home. The Rev. John Minor will officiate.
Mrs. Arrington, 74, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Arrington was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Wichita, Kan., a daughter of Milo Ward and Edythe (Courtney) Parkinson. The family moved to Ashland when she was an infant.
She attended Ashland schools and was a homemaker in Ashland for many years. In Reno, Nev., she married Johnny Arrington, who died in 1996.
She was an Eastern Star member and enjoyed music, bowling, and being with her family.
Survivors include three sons, Timothy W. Lytle and Andrew T. Arrington, both Ashland, and Patrick D. Lytle; two daughters, Cynthia A. Stranberg, Ashland, and Nanette S. Grimes, Wasilla, Alaska, and five grandchildren.
She was precded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Lorton and Leona Murphy.

Murl D. Johnson
The memorial service for Murl Dean Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 28, 2000) at Grace Baptist Church in Rogue River. The Revs. Bruce Pearson and Clyde Rich will officiate.
Mrs. Johnson, 59, of Rogue River, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at Three Rivers Community Hospital’s Washington campus.
She was born Murl Dean Brown Dec. 6, 1940, in Little Rock, Ark. On March 22, 1963, in Susanville, Calif., she married Larry Dean Johnson, who survives. The couple moved to Rogue River from Aloha in 1980.
Mrs. Johnson worked on the family’s blueberry farm in Wimer and worked as a bookkeeper with Bank of America, a finance company and a hospital.
She was a member of Grace Baptist church. She enjoyed Southern gospel music and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Cherise Johnson, Medford; her mother, Jovedia Harris, and stepfather, Bill Harris, both Kingsburg, Calif.; a brother, Billie Ray Brown, Kingsburg, Calif.; and two grandchidren.
Viola Jane Laird
The memorial service for Viola Jane Laird will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Mortuary. The Rev. Larry Jung of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Laird, 94, of Carmichael, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) at Brittany Care Center in Carmichael, Calif.
She was born Viola Dewey on July 9, 1906, in Minneapolis, Kan. On May 18, 1930, in Minneapolis, Kan., she married Roland John Laird, who died in 1981. She lived in the Rogue Valley from 1945 to 1998.
Mrs. Laird graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1924. She received her teaching degree from Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan. She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Southern Oregon State College.
She taught in the elementary grades in Central Point School District 6 until her retirement in 1971.
Mrs. Laird was a member of the Retired Teachers Of Oregon, National Retired Teachers Association and the Southern Oregon Historical Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie E. Segur, Carmichael, Calif.; a brother, Chester L. Dewey; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald K., three brothers, Kenneth C., Clarence O. and LaVerne L. Dewey; and two sisters, Norma L. Brown and Leta B. Warren.

Georgia E. Elliott
The graveside service for Georgia E. Elliott will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Elliott, 84, of Roseville, Calif., formerly of Central Point, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) in Roseville.

She was born Georgia Brink on Feb. 22, 1916, in Alma, Ark. In 1933, in White Oak, Ark., she married J. Marion Elliott, who died in 1995. She lived in the Rogue Valley for 18 years and moved to Roseville, Calif., five years ago.
Mrs. Elliott and her husband operated roadside fruit and vegetable stands in Rogue River for many years before they retired.
She was a member of the Good Sam Club.
Mrs. Elliott enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Jim, Citrus Heights, Calif., and Dean, Grass Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Carolyn Forsyth, Danville, Calif.; three brothers, Bill Brink, Temecula, Calif., Jack, California, and Frank, Texas; a sister, Lucille Layne, Missouri; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

James Leonard Holman
The memorial service for James Leonard Holman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Holman, 75, of Rogue River, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at a foster home.
He was born July 15, 1925, in Glendale. He moved to the Rogue Valley 13 years ago from Long Beach, Calif.
Mr. Holman served in the Navy during World War II.
He was employed for 10 years for Aerospace Corp. in California. He worked for the city of Long Beach until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Holman was a mechanic and machinist.
He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop.
He is survived by a sister, Maxine Kimmel, of Shady Cove.
