Roland Edward Smith

The memorial service and celebration of life for Roland Edward Smith will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Davis Community Church, Fourth and C Streets, Davis, Calif. Private interment will be in Davis Cemetery.

Mr. Smith, 72, of Davis, formerly of Central Point, died Sunday (April 9, 2000) in Sacramento.

Memorial contributions may be made to Davis Community Church Memorial Fund, Fourth and C Streets, Davis, CA 95616, or to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95616.

He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Central Point, a son of Clifton and Mary Smith.

On March 6, 1948, in Medford, he married Meryllene Marie Gebhard, who survives. He graduated from what is now Southern Oregon University in 1953, and received his master's degree from Humboldt State University in 1960.

Mr. Smith's career as an educator included classroom teaching, elementary and junior high administration, and 19 years as a consultant with the California State Department of Education.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948, stationed in Korea.

Mr. Smith served as an Elder in the Davis Community Church and participated in many professional organizations. He enjoyed volunteer work after his retirement.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Linda Marie Alexander, Indio, Calif.; a son, Mark Roland, Davis, Calif.; two brothers, Harold, Phoenix, and Norman, Central Point; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Delmar; and a sister, Dorothy Owens.

Arrangements: Davis Funeral Chapel, Davis, Calif.

Edgar Loranze Homer

The memorial service for Edgar Loranze Homer will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lozier Lane Baptist Church in Medford. Pastor George Irvin will officiate. A private cryptside service will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Homer, 88, of Medford, died Sunday (April 9, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 1172, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 12, 1912, in Winfield, Ala.

On Nov. 2, 1937, in Gainesville, Texas, he married Euna Stovall, who survives. He moved to Klamath Falls in 1941 from Norman, Okla. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951.

Mr. Homer was a warehouseman for United Grocers for many years, retiring in 1971.

He was a 32nd-degree Mason life member. He was also a member of the Shriners, the Teamsters, the National Rifle Association and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mr. Homer was a member of the Lozier Lane Baptist Church.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pool and sports.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Melinda Fuhrer, Medford; three sisters, Essie Northcutt, Lexington, Okla., Lillian Thorpe, Oklahoma City, and Etoyle Tullius, Norman, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry P.; five brothers and three sisters.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Maurice W. Williams

The memorial service for Maurice Woodford Williams will be at 11 a.m. today at Linus Oaks, 2665 Van Pelt Blvd., Roseburg. The Rev. Sherman Hesselgrave of St. George's Episcopal Church and Pastor Ray Venghaus of Faith Lutheran Church will officiate. Private cremation rites have been held. The graveside service will follow at a later date at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Williams, 87, of Roseburg, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (April 9, 2000) at his home.

He was born Dec. 22, 1912, in Grants Pass, to a Medford pioneer family, Frederick A. and Jane H. (Woodford) Williams. He grew up in Medford and finished school in Burlingame, Calif.

On Nov. 13, 1948, in Portland, he married Emma Ruth Cramer, who survives.

Mr. Williams worked for United Air Lines from 1946 until his retirement as flight operations staff manager in 1975. He traveled around the world several times while working for United. He moved to Ashland in 1975, and to Roseburg in 1992.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an air transportation technician.

Mr. Williams attended St. George's Episcopal Church and Faith Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling, music and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Kevin W., in Virginia, and Geoffry K., Janesville, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Firs, Sutherlin.

Pamela Kay Hoschler

Pamela Kay Hoschler, 56, of Jacksonville, died Sunday (April 9, 2000) in Medford. A private service was held in Jacksonville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Pamela Kay Beatty on Nov. 16, 1943, in Homer, Neb.

On May 26, 1962, in Las Vegas, she married Dennis E. Hoschler, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Hoschler enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Tammi F. Curtis, Central Point, and Kimberly K. Morse, Bend; a son, Dennis E., Eagle Point; three sisters, Phyllis Clark and Jackie Hobbs, both Talent, and Bernice Kime, Oregon City; two brothers, Bob Beatty, Phoenix, and Chuck Beatty, Oregon City; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Mabelle Grow Bush

The memorial service for Mabelle Marilyn (Grow) Bush will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Ruch Community Bible Church. A potluck will follow at the home of Carl Offenbacker, 10417 Highway 238, Ruch.

Mrs. Bush, 83, of Ashland, died Monday (April 10, 2000) at Linda Vista Care Center.

She was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Ashland, a daughter of Homer and Lillie (Dozier) Grow, a pioneer family in the Emigrant Creek area. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Mabelle (Bush) Hutchinson, Ashland; a sister, Bessie Blanch (Grow) Harden; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner James Bush, in 1984; and a daughter, Ethel Mae (Bush) Beldon.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care.

Harry K. Butts

The memorial service for Harry K. Butts will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church in Medford. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff will officiate.

Mr. Butts, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 11, 2000) at his home.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Wave A. King

The funeral for Wave A. King will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Central Valley Chapel in Central Point. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.

Mrs. King, 92, of Medford, died Saturday (April 8, 2000) at Alterra Wynwood of Rogue Valley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or to a favorite charity.

She was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Yankee Creek homestead, then known as Wellen, east of White City. She was a daughter of Louis and Artie Doren, the first couple married in Medford. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

On Aug. 12, 1925, in Medford, she married Otto King, who died in 1981.

Mrs. King and her husband owned and operated King's Cafe in Talent, and a number of taverns and cafes in the area.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Mason, Medford; a son, Otto, Roseburg; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in Central Valley Chapel, Central Point.
