William ‘Gus’ Gustafson
William "Gus" H. Gustafson, D.V.M., 78, of Medford, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held.

He was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Tacoma, Wash. He earned an undergraduate degree and received a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree from Washington State University, graduating in 1950. He played varsity football in college with Medford’s legendary coach, Fred Spiegelberg, and they remained lifelong friends.
On July 19, 1944, in Chicago, he married Rachel Louise Appleford, who survives.
Mr. Gustafson moved to Seattle in 1951 to begin his veterinary practice. In 1956, he purchased Halecrest Veterinary Hospital, which he owned until his retirement in 1988. He and his wife retired to Sunriver and lived there for 12 years. They moved to Medford in February.
He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Gustafson was a member of the Washington State Veterinary Board of Governors from 1974-1979, serving as chair in 1979; the Seattle Veterinary Medical Association; the Shriners; the Kiwanis Club; Washington State University Cougar Club; Theta Chi Fraternity; and the Washington State University Gray W Club.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.
Mr. Gustafson was an animal enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing and snow skiing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Susan Gustafson Naumes, Medford, and Debora Gustafson Lowery, Lake Stevens, Wash.; a son, Francis Tong, Renton, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Lynn Lemings
The memorial service for Lynn Lemings will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Southside Church of the Open Bible, 1643 S.E. Jackson, Roseburg. Pastor Tim Skelly will officiate.
Mrs. Lemings, 53, of Roseburg, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at her home.
She was born Oct. 18, 1946, in Ozark, Ala., a daughter of James and Rachel (Hutto) Riley. She grew up and attended school in Alabama.
On March 21, 1964, at Fort Sill, Okla., she married Rip Lemings, who survives. The couple moved to Medford where they lived for two years before returning to Alabama for 12 years. They moved to the Roseburg area in the late 1970s.
Mrs. Lemings was a school bus driver for the Roseburg School District for 12 years.
She took many first place ribbons at the Douglas Country Fair for her ceramics and arts and crafts.
Mrs. Lemings enjoyed her family, softball, square dancing and league bowling.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Terry W. and Stacy L., both Roseburg; a daughter, Ranee JoNa Sargent, Roseburg; her mother, Rachel Torres, Bryson City, N.C.; a brother, Alan Riley, Bonifay, Fla; two sisters, Joyce Greene, Bryson City, and Rena Pettis, Vernon, Fla.; and four grandsons.

Clifford E. Roos
The memorial service for Clifford E. Roos will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Jim Feeney of Medford Christian Center will officiate.
Mr. Roos, 90, of Medford, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born July 9, 1909, in Minneapolis, a son of John Swenson and Augusta (Anderson). He received a degree in law enforcement training from The University of Southern California and graduated from the FBI Academy.
On Oct. 24, 1934, in South Gate, Calif., he married Florence Newkirk, who survives.
Mr. Roos was a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff. He moved to the Rogue Valley 4½ years ago from Escondido, Calif..
He was a member of the Masons, the L.A. County Peace Officers Association, where he served as past president, the FBI National Academy, California Chapter, and was president of the graduating class of the FBI Academy.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Gerald A., Medford, Jim E., Central Point, and John C., Spring Hill, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Roos, Medford; a sister, Vivian Concolino, Monterey, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Laura Alice Owen
Laura Alice Owen, 94, formerly of Jacksonville, died Monday (June 12, 2000) in Portland. A private interment was held in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
She was born Oct. 15, 1905, in Lincoln, Kan., a daughter of Gustiva and Emma Thrun.
On May 1, 1929, in Eugene, she married Donald L. Owen, who preceded her in death. She lived in Jacksonville for 43 years and moved to Portland eight years ago.
Mrs. Owen was a member of the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She enjoyed traveling and her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Dennie, Central Point, and Kenneth, Jacksonville; three daughters, Carolyn Bohlman, Portland, and Dorothy Campbell and Shirley Bristline, both Escondido, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ruby B. Bradshaw
The funeral for Ruby B. Bradshaw will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Ms. Bradshaw, 81, of Central Point, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born April 3, 1919, in Swan Lake, a daughter of Lawrence Leslie and Nannie Margarette (Kinkade) Arnett. She moved to Central Point in 1961 and graduated from Southern Oregon Normal School, now known as Southern Oregon University.
Ms. Bradshaw was a primary grade school teacher in California and Oregon, retiring in 1984.
She did volunteer work with the Jackson County Department of Human Resources.
Survivors include four sons, Gerry L, Talent, Kerry K., Central Point, Larry L., Westwood, Calif., and Randy W., Fallon, Nev.; a daughter, Sandra Lynette Price, Bend; a brother, Ray Arnett, Salem; a sister, Jennie Bezoff, Medford; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford.
Nadine Lawing
The graveside service for Nadine Lawing will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Lawing, 70, of Shady Cove, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Nadine Recroft on Jan. 4, 1930, in Pasadena, Calif.
On Jan. 6, 1950, in Las Vegas, she married Jewel Lawing, who survives.
Mrs. Lawing worked as a bookkeeper and art teacher for Read Institute, and also for her family. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from Glendora, Calif.
She enjoyed art, especially oil painting, flowers, music and spending time with her family.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Malinda Lee Felby and Julie Joayne Johnson, both Trail; a son, Steven, Smith, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Sharon E. Scott
Sharon E. Scott, 52, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at her son’s home in Medford. A private service will be held.
She was born Sharon Middleton on Feb. 29, 1948, in British Columbia, Canada.
On Sept. 28, 1968, in Southern California, she married Leslie Scott, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Southern California.
Mrs. Scott enjoyed her religion, cooking, camping and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five sons, Robert and Samuel, both Medford, and Bryan, James and Michel, all Grants Pass; a sister, Terry Middleton, Medford; a brother, Ted Middleton, in Alaska; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Middleton, in 1992.
