James `Jim' Machgan
The memorial service for James F. "Jim" Machgan will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Wolf Creek Alliance Community Church, 130 Main St., Wolf Creek. The Rev. Jim Roberts will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Machgan, 61, of Sunny Valley, died Friday (March 3, 2000) at Fair View Transitional Health Center after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Taylorsville, N.C. He moved to San Francisco when he was five years old.
In 1958, in Miami, he married Mary LoPorto, who survives.
Mr. Machgan was an ironworker in San Francisco. He moved to Sunny Valley in 1971, where he was an ironworker until 1979. He leased his first service station in Sunny Valley in 1979, and also operated service stations in Grants Pass until 1992.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years.
Mr. Machgan was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Ironworkers Union.
He enjoyed camping, scuba diving, bicycling and cross-country skiing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John, Grants Pass; a daughter, Kim Biencourt, Grants Pass; his mother, Vera Machgan, Grants Pass; three brothers, David, Rohnert Park, Calif., Sherman, Sacramento, Calif., and Gerald, Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Marti Spicer, Newberg; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Matthew, in 1977.

Warren B. Cole
Warren B. Cole, 75, of Medford, died Saturday (March 4, 2000) in Casa Grande, Ariz. A private service is planned.
He was born April 25, 1924, in Seagrove, N.C., a son of William W. and Hattie I. (Imper) Cole. He moved to Medford in 1946.
Mr. Cole was a deputy sheriff with the Jackson County Sheriff's office, retiring in 1974. He had also worked for Rogue River Packing Corp. of Medford for more than 20 years.
He served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during World War II.
Mr. Cole enjoyed traveling the U.S. in his R.V. for the past 25 years, and had been a winter visitor in Arizona since 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie E. Cole, Medford; a son, Rick, Medford; a daughter, Carolyn Smith, Medford; three brothers; six sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert W. Best Jr.
The graveside service for Robert W. Best Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Thomas Simons of the Grants Pass Church of God will officiate.
Mr. Best, 70, of Roseburg, formerly of Independence and Medford, died Saturday (March 4, 2000) at the Veterans Hospital in Roseburg.

He was born March 16, 1929, in Patterson, Ark., a son of Robert W. Sr. and Nettie Best.
In 1952, he married Luella Jacobs. They later divorced.
In 1981, in Reno, Nev., he married Patricia Mills, who survives.
Mr. Best worked for Boise Cascade in Independence for 32 years, retiring in 1991.
He served in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea, where he received a Purple Heart.
Mr. Best was a member of the Salem American Legion and the Eagles Club.
He enjoyed traveling, raising Koi fish and ballroom dancing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Jennifer Schroeder, Dallas, Ore.; four sons, Gerald, Beaverton, Walter and Joel, both Monmouth, and David, Salem; three stepdaughters, Wyllajo Martin and Mayde Evans, both Medford, and Jeanne Heinz, Burns; three sisters, Donna Burke, Philomath, Barbara Teal, Dallas, Ore., and Margaret Bender, Albany; three brothers, Richard and Steve, both Dallas, Ore., and Bobby, Salem; 13 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Dawn.

R.J. Ritchey
The memorial service for R.J. Ritchey will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Roxy Ann Grange, 1850 Spring St., Medford.
Mr. Ritchey, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (March 4, 2000) in Medford.

He was born April 19, 1916, in Hale Center, Texas. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Cedarville, Calif.
In 1970, in Medford, he married Iona M. Condit, who survives.
Mr. Ritchey was a building inspector for the City of Central Point for eight years during the 1980s.
He was a member of Roxy Ann Grange and raised racing pigeons and other show poultry.
Mr. Ritchey was an expert wood carver, and carved a rocking horse for his first great-granddaughter.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Karol, Jacksonville, Bob, Redmond, and Kenneth, Imperial Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Williams, and Susan Denton, both Redmond; three stepdaughters, Jean Taylor, Medford, Barbara Horton, Mountainair, N.M., and Susan Hart, Tatum, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Kathleen and Iris; a brother; and five sisters.

Gary T. Christensen
The funeral for Gary Thomas Christensen will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Medford. Pastor Web Staunton of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate. The graveside service will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Christensen, 53, of Medford, died Saturday (March 4, 2000) at Ashland Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Seattle, a son of Ted and Shirley (Gay) Christensen. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Seattle.
Mr. Christensen worked for Southern Oregon Training and Rehabilitation Center in Ashland for 11 years before becoming disabled.
He enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping and handicrafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Kim Spiess, Medford; two sons, Thomas, Medford, and Patrick, Jacksonville; a sister, Karen Estrada, Tigard; and three grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.

Joe B. Hurita
Joe B. Hurita, 88, of Grants Pass, died Friday (March 3, 2000) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned.
He was born Nov. 13, 1911, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, stationed in Iceland.
Survivors include a nephew, Bill Hurita, Gladstone.

Mandy S. Bombardier
The memorial service for Mandy Sue Bombardier will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trail Christian Fellowship. Pastor Ric Booye will officiate.
Ms. Bombardier, 37, of White City, died Friday (March 3, 2000) at her home.
She was born Mandy McFall on May 22, 1962, in Northridge, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1982 from Simi Valley, Calif.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed sewing, needlecrafts, outdoor activities and helping people in need.
Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Bombardier, White City; her mother and stepfather, Susan and Ralph Sauerwald, Eagle Point; a brother, Michael McFall, Eagle Point; two sisters, Melissa McLoughlin and Melanie Sauerwald, both Eagle Point; and her grandmother, Dorothy Buck, Medford. She was preceded in death by her father, Gary McFall.
