John Jacob Youngman

The memorial service for John Jacob Youngman will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Youngman, 70, of White City, died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Attn: Research, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Portland, Or 97202.

He was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Sweetgrass, Mont., a son of Clarence and Leona Youngman.

On May 15, 1965, in Reno, Nev., he married Sandra Bass, who survives. He lived in Oregon for 34 years.

Mr. Youngman was a self-employed long-haul truck driver. He owned and operated JJ & CL Youngman Trucking for over 30 years.

In the mid-1950s and early 1960s Mr. Youngman was one of the leading ranchers in the Cow Head Lake Project in the Northeast corner of California. His father, C.A .Youngman, and brother Abbott, were the first to utilize an extensive program of fertilization on the drained land. They farmed 2,600 acres in one track and by keeping the water drained off the land, they grew large oat crops that never failed. The average yield was one and one half tons of threshed grain per acres, more than 90 bushels.

Mr. Youngman served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Clarence Lee, White City; two daughters, Ann Valencia, Eagle Point, and Cheryl Youngman, White City; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Elaine H. Harkin

The memorial service for Elaine H. Harkin will be at 1 p.m. today in the Phoenix First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Braund will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Harkin, 76, of Talent, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2000) in Hearthstone.

She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Holdrege, Neb., a daughter of Fay H. and Helen L. (Hansen) Walker. She graduated from high school in 1939 in Alliance, Neb.

On Oct. 16, 1942, in Alliance, Neb., she married Jack Harkin, who survives.

Mrs. Harkin was a member of the Elkettes and the Happy Camper's R.V. Club of Ashland Elk Lodge 944.

She enjoyed camping and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Dale, Medford; a daughter, Kathleen Tyrrell, Federal Way, Wash.; two sisters, Arlene Howell, Laughlin, Nev., and Marjorie Wilkens, Alliance, Neb.; a brother, Eugene Walker, of Alliance, Nev.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home & Crematory, Ashland.

Ralph Eugene Clark

Ralph Eugene Clark, 55, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2000) at Ashland Community Hospital. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Alta Vista, Kan., a son of Claude Monroe and Dorothy Maxine (Van Meter) Clark. He was raised in the Kelso and White City area of Kansas, where he attended high school.

In January 1972, in Reno, Nev., he married Carolyn La Coursiere. They later divorced.

Mr. Clark was an electrician for PG&E, mostly in the San Jose, Calif., area for 25 years. He moved to Ashland in 1996 from San Jose, Calif.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Ron, Chico,

Calif.; two stepsons, Robert and Randy Olsen, both Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Alan Lee, Esparto, Calif.; and a sister, Claudette Richa, Topeka, Kan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Bond Clark in January 1999; and by his parents.

Diana K. Driskell

The memorial service for Diana Katheline Driskell will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hinderliter-Woodard Chapel in Jay, Okla. Larry Kingfisher will officiate.

Mrs. Driskell, 81, of Jacksonville, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

She was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Oklahoma, a daughter of Ben and Mima Jones.

In 1948, in Bend, she married Thomas Ben Driskell, who survives.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Ray Lee, Jacksonville and Charles Ronald, Shady Cove; a brother, Bill Jones Sr., Jay, Okla.; two sisters, Bonnie Earl, Jay, Okla., and Shirley Jean Phillips, Eucha, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Donald.

Donald Gale Main

The memorial service for Donald Gale Main will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Applegate Christian Fellowship, Ruch. Chaplain Earl Best and Rick Vestnys of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Mr. Main, 73, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Jan. 6, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Garden City, Kan., a son of Abe and Lauilla Main.

On July 24, 1946, in Twin Falls, Idaho, he married Bernice Hackworth, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Twin Falls in 1950.

Mr. Main was a logger. He worked for Oregon State Forestry. He was also a retired elementary teacher and a writer.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Alan, Grants Pass; two daughters, Peggy Lehman, Grants Pass, and Donna McCoy, Portland; his mother, Lauilla Legg, in Idaho; a sister, Romana Beckwith, in California; two brothers, Stan Legg, Ontario, and Dick Legg, Eagle River, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Charles W. Barnes

Charles W. Barnes, 88, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2000) at his home. A private graveside service will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park. The Rev. David Close of St. Mark's Episcopal Church will officiate.

He was born June 15, 1911, in Ashland.

In May 1935, in Medford, he married Dorothy Orth, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.

Mr. Barnes was an orchardist and co-owner of Rosenbalm Aviation.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Susan McLaughlin, DeeAnn Weisel, and Patty Eames; a brother, J. Curtis, Phoenix; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Eva Dover Hume

The memorial service for Eva Dover Hume will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Brownsboro Community Church, 8833 Highway 140. Pastor Darell Backous will officiate.

Mrs. Hume, 104, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Medford Gospel Mission, 409 N. Front St., Medford, OR 97501 or the Gideons, P.O. Box 82, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Eva Mae Graesser on Nov. 14, 1895, in Albion, Neb. When she was young, her family moved to a homestead near the Nebraska-South Dakota line where they lived in a sod house. She attended Fremont Normal School in Fremont, Neb., where she trained to become a teacher. She taught in several one-room schoolhouses in the area.

On Feb. 13, 1917, in Madison County, Neb., she married John Dover, who died in 1967. They moved to Monroe, Ore., where they resided until the outbreak of World War II.

Mrs. Hume and her husband moved to Vancouver, Wash., where they worked in the Kaiser Shipyard. After the war, they owned and operated a farm in the Battle Ground area, where they raised strawberries and cattle.

In 1969, in Cody, Wyo., she married David Hume, who preceded her in death. The couple lived in Powell, Wyo., prior to moving to Eagle Point.

Mrs. Hume was a volunteer at the Eagle Point Senior Center for several years.

She enjoyed sewing, reading and family gatherings.

Survivors include two sons, Lauren and Myron Dover, Eagle Point; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
