Roland Paul Harper

Roland Paul Harper, 49, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 17, 1999) in Medford Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned.

He was born May 27, 1950, in Sacramento, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley many years ago from California.

Mr. Harper was a custodian for the Veteran's Administration for several years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a son, Dean, Santa Rosa, Calif.; his mother, Beverly Harper, Roseville, Calif.; and three sisters, April F. Carlson, Vallejo, Calif., Ardis A. Harper, and Ava L. Harper, both Sacramento, Calif..

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Jerry Allen Abbott

The memorial service for Jerry Allen Abbott will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Interment will follow in Phoenix Cemetery.

Mr. Abbott, 63, of Phoenix, died Wednesday (Oct. 20, 1999) in Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 203, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Medford, a son of Loyal and Esther Abbott. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.

On Nov. 9, 1970, in Carson City, Nev., he married Rita Wright, who survives.

Mr. Abbott worked for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1998 after 34 years of service. He worked as a patrol deputy, marine patrol, bomb technician, prisoner transport driver and in the mechanical maintenance division.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and an expert rafter. He enjoyed motorcycling and camping.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five daughters, Theresa Sproul, Central Point, Susan Johnson, Eugene, Linda Abbott and Rosie Campbell, both Portland, and Terry Evans, Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, Claude Jr., Tualatin; five sisters, Judy Daves and Carol Hayner, both Medford, Mona De Armond and Jane McTevia, both Seattle, and Alicia Schick, Eugene; two brothers, Benny Abbott, Medford, and Dale Kinnan, Talent; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Conger-Morris in Medford.

Helen E. Cronk

The funeral for Helen E. Cronk will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Talent Friends Church. Private interment will be Monday in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Cronk, 83, of Talent, died Wednesday (Oct. 20, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1916, in Providence, Iowa, a daughter of Lela and John Settle. She received a master's degree in religious education from Asbury Theological Seminary.

On Aug. 23, 1949, at Greenleaf, Idaho, she married Gerald Cronk, who survives. She lived in Idaho from 1951 to 1956 before moving to the Klamath Indian Reservation. She moved to Talent in 1958.

Mrs. Cronk was a substitute teacher and piano teacher.

She was a member of the Talent Friends Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was active in the music ministry.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a brother, Howard Settle, Huntington Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Ruth Root and Janet Steiger, both of Everett, Wash.; and Marie Howard of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home, Ashland.

Susan Gallagher

The funeral for Susan Gallagher will be at noon today in Deschutes Christian Fellowship in Bend. Pastor Denny Stahl will officiate. Interment will follow in La Pine Community Cemetery. Pastor Abner C. Sumrau of the Applegate Christian Fellowship in Jacksonville will officiate.

Mrs. Gallagher, 51, of La Pine, formerly of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Oct. 21, 1999) at her home of natural causes.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Deschutes Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 9129, Bend, OR 97708 or the Newberry Hospice, 51480 Huntington Road, La Pine, OR 97739.

She was born March 8, 1948, in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of William and Lillian (Grose) Otis. She graduated from high school in Grants Pass. She received her practical nurse degree from Rogue Community College and her associate degree of science at Southern Oregon University.

On Feb. 2, 1967, in Grants Pass, she married Lawrence "Larry" Gallagher, who survives.

Mrs. Gallagher was a nurse at Southern Oregon General Hospital in Grants Pass, and at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. She also worked for the American Red Cross in Medford.

After her retirement in 1987, she worked as a volunteer for the Domestic Violence Coalition, Crisis Intervention and the Newberry Hospice. She moved to La Pine in 1994.

Mrs. Gallagher attended Applegate Christian Fellowship in Jacksonville, the Calvary Chapel of Bend, the Cascade Bible Church of La Pine and was a member of the Deschutes Christian Fellowship in Bend.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Samuel R., Annapolis, Mo., and Richard W., Bend; a daughter, Sharon L.A. McCulloch, Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Pat Lewman, Grants Pass; three brothers, Glenn Otis, Grants Pass, Bill Otis, Reedsport; and James Otis, Redding, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jaime A. Fernandez

The graveside service for Jaime Alfredo Fernandez will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Fernandez, 20, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) in Eagle Point.

He was born Nov. 20, 1978, in Medford, a son of Jaime and Lori Fernandez. He lived in the Rogue Valley all of his life.

Mr. Fernandez was a 1997 graduate of Eagle Point High School. He was disabled after a 1998 automobile accident.

He enjoyed fishing, snowboarding, jet skiing and girls.

Survivors include his parents, Jaime and Lori Fernandez, Eagle Point; a brother and sister, Brandon James and Candace Marie Fernandez, both Eagle Point; and his grandparents, Charles and Beverly Lamb, Eagle Point, Maria Fernandez, Sebastopol, Calif.; and H. Fernandez, in Mexico. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Richard and Ruth Winslow; and his uncle, Lance Richard Lamb.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Odell `Digger' W. Sallee

The memorial service for Odell "Digger" W. Sallee will be at noon Saturday at the family home, 13432 Highway 234, Gold Hill. Pastor Carl Smith of Grandview, Wash., will officiate.

Mr. Sallee, 69, of Gold Hill, died Monday (Oct. 18, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. He was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Claremore, Okla., a son of Bill J. and Pearl Sallee.

On Oct. 4, 1952, in Tempe, Ariz., he married Delores Reames, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Claremore, Okla., in 1947.

Mr. Sallee worked for Bob Cherry Planer Mill in Gold Hill, Double D. Lumber in Central Point, Steve Wilson Lumber in Central Point, and Boise Cascade Plywood in Medford.

He retired in 1995.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Sallee was a member of the Citizens Band "CB" Club.

He was a rockhound and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Chris, Gold Hill, and Gordon O., Milwaukie; a daughter, Valerie L. Stewart, Virginia City, Nev.; a brother, Dwight, Nowata, Okla., a sister, Shirley Roberts, Chelsea, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Waymon.

Odell Alfred Garrison

The graveside service for Odell Alfred Garrison will be at noon Saturday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. The Rev. Jim Clifford of Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point will officiate.

Mr. Garrison, 73, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Oct. 20, 1999) in Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.

He was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Austin, Texas. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.

On Oct. 27, 1951, in Ashland, he married Carol Bresnahan, who survives.

Mr. Garrison was a machine operator for Boise Cascade in Medford, retiring after 19 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Thomas A., Clinton A., and Darrin K., all Central Point; three daughters, Alicia Garrison, Medford, Debra Lynn Messer, Newburg, and Sharon Dale Kennedy, Stayton; a brother, Gary, Sparks, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Michael Garrison; two sisters and five brothers.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
