Jack B. Neathamer

The graveside service for Jack B. Neathamer will be at 10 a.m. today in Woodville Cemetery. Pastor Mike Fieguth will officiate. The Rogue River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4116 will assist.

Mr. Neathamer, 67, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Aug. 8, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 400 N.E. E St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born May 7, 1932, in Portland. He attended grade school in Wimer, and Rogue River High School.

Mr. Neathamer was a log truck driver all of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Neathamer enjoyed western movies, TV sports, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Thomas, North Salt Lake City, Utah; two sons, Michael, Angel Fire, N.M., and Richard, Taos, N.M.; his mother, Neva Neathamer, Kalama, Wash.; two brothers, Max, Klamath Falls, and Gene, Kalama; a sister, Judy Neathamer, San Francisco; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Elizabeth A. Buckles

The funeral for Elizabeth Arlene Buckles will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Conger-Morris Chapel. The Rev. John Braund of the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenix will officiate.

Mrs. Buckles, 75, of Gold Hill, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) in Gold Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born Elizabeth Reed on March 31, 1924, in Gold Hill, a daughter of William and Lola (Coy) Reed. She lived in the Rogue Valley all of her life.

On Aug. 30, 1946, in Medford, she married Robert John Buckles, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Buckles was the owner/operator of Buckles Garden Shop for 20 years.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana French, North Bend; and a granddaughter.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel.

Josephine M. McLeish

The graveside service for Josephine Mabel McLeish will be at 2 p.m. today at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction. Pastor Charles Harlow will officiate.

Mrs. McLeish, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202 or to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born on July 29, 1913, in Kerby, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle Pfefferle. She graduated from Brookings High School as valedictorian.

On May 13, 1934, in Grants Pass, she married James P. Durgin, who died in 1960.

On Nov. 2, 1964, in Reno, Nev., she married Earl E. McLeish, who died in 1984. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1954 from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. McLeish worked at Ewana Box Factory in Klamath Falls during World War II. She later worked as a waitress in the cafeteria at J.J. Newberry in Medford for many years until her retirement.

Mrs. McLeish enjoyed rock hunting, camping, traveling and reading.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Gress, Gladstone, and Ruth Masterson, Hines; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Phayo, Paul and Allen Pfefferle.

Freda C. Hartwick

Freda Catherine Hartwick, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 7, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born on June 21, 1921, in East Liverpool, Ohio.

On June 21, 1939, in Los Angeles, she married Richard Hartwick, who preceded her in death.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1960 from Covina, Calif.

Mrs. Hartwick worked as an operator for Western Union from 1939 to 1958.

She was a member of the Methodist church and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Neoma Wayne, Medford; and five grandchildren.

Charles Parren

The graveside service for Charles "Charlie " Parren was Monday at Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River, with members of Veterans for Veterans officiating.

Mr. Parren, 73, of Rogue River, died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at his home.

He was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Lindsay, Calif.

On Oct. 7, 1950, in Medford, he married Virginia Megerle, who survives.

Mr. Parren lived in Sacramento, Calif., for 30 years. He moved to Rogue River 10 years ago.

He served in the military during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Parren worked for Panella Trucking in Stockton Calif., for 17 years, hauling produce.

He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He also enjoyed dune buggies and working on old cars.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Les and Dale, both Rogue River; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Nina Hope Galvin

Nina Hope Galvin, 90, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Home, Medford.

She was born Nina Hope Morgan on April 14, 1909, in Eustis, Neb.

She had been a resident of the Rogue Valley since 1953, living first in the Grants Pass area and later in Medford.

Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Cox, Medford; a son, Charles L. Pryor, Medford; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

John Arlan Foster

An informal gathering for John Arlan "Choo Choo" Foster will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Eagles Hall in Dunsmuir, Calif. A second service is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rogue Riveria Supper Club, 1754 Rogue River Highway, Gold Hill.

Mr. Foster, 58, of Dunsmuir, formerly of Gold Hill, died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at his home.

He was born June 13, 1941, in Pasadena, Calif.

He moved to Dunsmuir from Gold Hill in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Jonathan Lorence, Moscow, Russia; his mother, Edith Foster, Portola Valley, Calif.; and a sister, Judy Pickett, Seattle.

Arrangements: Mount Shasta Memorial Chapel, Redding, Calif.

Violet R. Boyd

The graveside service for Violet Rose Boyd will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Scenic Hills Memorial Park.

Mrs. Boyd, 86, of Ashland, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assocation, 2300 Oakmont, Suite 208-B, Eugene, OR 97219; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Violet Rose Walker on May 8, 1913, in Merrill, Wis., a daughter of John and Anna Mae (Howes) Walker. She came to the Rogue Valley in 1942 and lived in the Talent and Ashland area.

On June 4, 1950, at Reno, she married Elisha Lee Boyd, who died Sept. 7, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Bovee, Phoenix, and Susan Lee, Medford, and a son, Levi Boyd, Central Point; a sister, Bette Lemon, Talent; a brother, Ray Walker, Talent; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Les and George, and a sister, Grace Guile.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Littwiler-Simonsen Funeral Home.
