`Rocky' Blomker

Vernon L. "Rocky" Blomker, 73, of Medford, died Friday (June 4, 1999) at his home. A private memorial service is planned.

He was born June 5, 1925, in Avery Township, Humboldt County, Iowa. He moved to Ashland in 1978, and to Talent in 1980.

Mr. Blomker retired from the Oregon Department of Transportation in 1990. He moved to Medford in 1997.

He was a member of the Southeastern Cherokee Confederacy, and was known as Chief Vernon Blomker Little Bear.

Mr. Blomker was a volunteer at the American Legion, Post 14, in Ashland.

Survivors include his companion's children, Holly M. Harnack, Medford, Wendy A. Graves, Salem, and Stanley Ross, Pendleton. His companion of thirty years, Eleanor M. Ross, died in 1998.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Dot Cavagnaro

The funeral for Dorothy Rose "Dot" Cavagnaro will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Chapel in Medford. Sister Patricia and Paul Hagedorn of Providence Medford Medical Center will officiate. A cryptside service will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cavagnaro, 69, of Shady Cove, died Sunday (June 6, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dorothy Rose on April 15, 1930, in Martinez, Calif.

On April 29, 1951, in Martinez, she married Louis J. Cavagnaro, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Martinez in 1978.

Mrs. Cavagnaro was vice president of operations for the Bank of California until her retirement in 1979. In Oregon, she worked with her husband to preserve water quality in Shady Cove by preventing a corporation from processing soil to extract gold with sodium cyanide.

She was active in bringing the Providence Family Health Center to Shady Cove.

Mrs. Cavagnaro was a member of several Good Sam chapters, including the Rusty Zipper Sams. She served as treasurer of the Southern Oregon Crimson Circle and Upper Rogue Sams, and as vice president of the Rogue Valley Pairs. She was a past treasurer of the Upper Rogue Community Center, and was a member of the University of Oregon Agricultural Extension and Wildflower Society.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Linette Cavagnaro, Shady Cove; and a brother, Edwin Rose, Martinez, Calif.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Evelyn G. Edwards

Evelyn Geraldine Edwards, 79, of Central Point, died Saturday (June 5, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

She was born Evelyn Geraldine Yeager on Oct. 19, 1919, in Burien, Wash. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California nine years ago.

Mrs. Edwards was a self-employed bookkeeper.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Central Point.

Mrs. Edwards enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and reading.

She is survived by a son, Richard Smalz, Grants Pass.

Harold Keener

The memorial graveside service for Harold Keener will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Fall River Mills Cemetery in Fall River Mills, Calif. Mr. Keener's nephew, Charles Thomas, of Burney, Calif., will officiate.

Mr. Keener, 85, of Ashland, died Thursday (June 3, 1999) at Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate Inc., 1425 N.E. Irving, Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232-4201.

He was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Wayne, Okla.

On July 25, 1935, in Cherokee, Okla., he married Florence Anthony, who survives. He moved to Fall River Mills, Calif., in 1938.

Mr. Keener began a 30-year career as a switchman with Great Northern Railroad (Burlington Northern Railroad) in 1943. He moved to Klamath Falls in 1955. In 1973, following his retirement from Burlington Northern Railroad, he moved to Ashland.

Mr. Keener was a member of the Burlington Northern Veterans Association.

He was a licensed pilot, and enjoyed flying, as well as hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gary, Citrus Heights, Calif.; three sisters, Reba Parker, Lois Anderson, and Eula Keener, all Redding, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Robert Edwin Hayes

The memorial service for Robert Edwin Hayes will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trail Christian Fellowship. Pastor Rick Booye will officiate.

Mr. Hayes, 60, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (June 3, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagle Point High School Scholarship Fund, Robert & Carol Hayes Memorial, Attn: Mary Keaton, P.O. Box 198, Eagle Point, OR 97524.

He was born May 24, 1939, in Glendale, Calif.

On Feb. 14, 1975, in Medford, he married Carol Booth, who died March 14, 1999. He moved to the Rogue Valley 53 years ago from Glendale, Calif.

Mr. Hayes owned and operated a dairy ranch in the Rogue Valley for 49 years.

He was a member of the Milk Production Association, Mayflower Dairy Co., and Darigold. He participated and volunteered with the Future Farmers of America, 4-H, and the Roxy Ann Bowling League.

Survivors include a son, Brian, Corvallis; a daughter, Robin Hayes, Los Angeles; and a sister, Geraldine Robertson, Talent.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Russell Willard Hanson

A celebration of the life of Russell Willard Hanson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the home of his daughter, Pat Smith, 2121 East Jackson St., Medford.

Mr. Hanson, 83, of Ruch, died Friday (June 4, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 26, 1915, in Sacramento, Calif.

On June 10, 1940, in Mount Shasta, Calif., he married Marjorie Harris, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Mount Shasta in 1946.

Mr. Hanson was an assistant manager for M and M Department Store in downtown Medford. He also worked in the men's department at Sears and for Drews Men's Store.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Hanson enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Pat Smith, Medford; a son, Vernon, Ruch; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Rolland Leroy Myers

The funeral for Rolland Leroy Myers will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mountain View Wesleyan Church in Aumsville. Interment will be in Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton.

Mr. Myers, 74, of Aumsville, formerly of Medford, died Friday (June 4, 1999) in Aumsville.

He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Minot, N.D. After completing his G.E.D., he took classes in diesel training, and qualified as a journeyman diesel mechanic. He moved to Medford from Minot in 1954.

On Dec. 14, 1943, in Estavan, Canada, he married Donna Rae, who survives.

Mr. Myers worked at Ross Lumber and Kogap Lumber. Following an injury at Kogap, he trained himself in mechanics and went to work for Jim Noons Sand and Gravel doing vehicle maintenance. He later worked for Burns Trucking, and in 1975 he went to work for Pacific Detroit Diesel. While working there he became a journeyman diesel mechanic. He retired in 1990, and moved to Aumsville in 1995.

He was a member of the Detroit Diesel Guild.

Mr. Myers spent many years maintaining and driving the Sunday school buses at the First Assembly of God in Medford, and attended the Mountain View Wesleyan Church in Aumsville.

He enjoyed checkers, chess, collecting tools and church activities.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Lily Carol Phillips, Victoria, British Columbia, Darlene Hering, Tigard, and Becky Johnson, Aumsville; a son, Wesley, Kirkland, Wash.; his stepmother, Margaret Myers, in North Dakota; eight brothers,

Alvin, Bill, Raymond, Donald, Harrison, Benton, Marlyn and Lowell, all Minot; four sisters, Mabel Albertson, Minot, Jeanette Gunderson, Berthold, N.D., Ruth Borgen, Eauclaire, Wis., and Ruby Podruchny, Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.

`Andy' J. Howard

Andrew "Andy" J. Howard, 77, of Ashland, died Thursday (June 3, 1999) at the Veterans Hospital in Roseburg. A memorial service will be held later.

He was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Washington, D.C. He lived in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, Calif., and moved to Ashland in 1992.

Mr. Howard was a retired buyer for Emporium in the San Francisco Bay area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Howard was active in volunteer activities in Ashland with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Ashland Information Services.

He enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with friends.
