Claude H. Hatfield

The memorial service for Claude Herschel Hatfield will be at 11 a.m. Monday in White City First Baptist Church. Pastor Larry Hood will officiate.

Mr. Hatfield, 72, of White City, died Friday (May 7, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to White City First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2426, White City, OR 97503.

He was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Payette, Idaho. He graduated from Ontario High School.

On May 19, 1983, in Sams Valley, he married Dora Ruth Turner, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Coos Bay in 1960.

Mr. Hatfield was a mill worker at Boise Cascade for over 30 years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1833.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Hatfield enjoyed bowling, and bowled in V.F.W. and Boise Cascade leagues for 30 years. He also enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, Brent Hatfield, White City, Pat Hatfield, Sacramento, Calif., John LaMere, Medford, Jim Culwell, Portland, John LaMere, Applegate, and Doane Turner, Canyonville; a daughter, Gina LaMere, Eugene; a sister, Cora Spencer, Ontario; two brothers, Harvey, Ontario, and Leroy, Silverton; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Perl Funeral Home-Siskiyou, Medford.

Henry R. Augustyniak

Henry Robert Augustyniak, 56, of Medford, died Monday (May 3, 1999) in Medford. A private service will be held in Beach Haven, N.J. A memorial service will be held later.

He was born Feb. 3, 1942, in Salem, N.J. He moved to Medford 25 years ago from Salem, N.J.

Survivors include a son, Dean Robert; his father, Henry A., a brother, Edward K., and a sister, Carol Rossell, all Beach Haven; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth, in 1991.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Eiven E. Kassell

The funeral for Eiven Esten Kassell will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Central Point Masonic Lodge No. 135. Lodge members will officiate. Interment will follow at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Kassell, 73, of Central Point, died Thursday (May 6, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

Mr. Kassell was born March 17, 1926, in Elkhorne City, Ky.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from San Mateo, Calif. On Feb. 14, 1982, he married Norma G. Noble, who survives.

Mr. Kassell was a welder for 20 years, retiring in 1981. He also drove long-haul trucks and tour buses for the Medford A's baseball team.

He was a member of the Cascade Masonic Lodge No. 208 in Shady Cove, the Hillah Shrine Temple in Ashland, the Patrol/Legion of Honor, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar and the Northern California Sheet Metal Union No. 104.

Mr. Kassell served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Army during the Korean War. He was a prisoner of war for one year in Manchuria.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three stepdaughters, Roxanna Barrett, Medford, Madelyn Lopez, Central Point, and Judy Oliphant, Grants Pass; a brother, James Kassell; a sister, Mary Jane McEroy, in Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Friends may pay their respects from 10:30 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the Central Point Masonic Lodge.

Harry `Papa' Larson

The military funeral for Harry Willard `Papa' Larson will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jeff Anderson of Central Point Assembly of God will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Larson, 93, of Medford, died Thursday (May 6, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born April 5, 1906, in Waupaca, Wis. He came to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from Santa Monica, Calif.

Mr. Larson worked in the restaurant business all his life as a chef, manager, owner and caterer.

He enjoyed holiday and special occasion food preparation.

He served as a major in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific, earning two service medals.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Larson; a daughter, Diana, and a son, Lloyd; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

George Allen Freeman

The graveside service for George Allen Freeman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Klamath Memorial Park, Klamath Falls. Rev. Jim Larsen of Rogue Valley Christian Church of Medford will officiate.

Mr. Freeman, 60, of Central Point, died Friday (May 7, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8, P.O. Box 1262, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born April 15, 1939, in New England, W.Va. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1979.

On July 23, 1959, in Klamath Falls, he married Arlene Foltz, who survives.

Mr. Freeman retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service that including serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, the Disabled American Veterans, the Air Force Association and the Jackson County Veterans Alliance Council. He was also a member of Rogue Valley Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, George Allen Freeman, Jr., of Central Point; three daughters, Diane Pennington of Carthage, Mo., Tamera Zerby of Medford, and Kimberly Alexander of Phoenix, Ariz.; his father, Earl Jackson of French Creek, W.Va.; three sisters, Juanita Koerner of West Virginia, Mattie Odgen of West Virginia, and Delma Phillips of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gordie Freeman, in 1996, and a daughter, Michelle Freeman, in 1965.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Central Valley Chapel in Central Point.

Marie Victoria McCammon

The graveside service for Marie Victoria McCammon will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, Calif.

Mrs. McCammon, 88, of Rogue River, died Saturday (May 8, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Marie Victoria Peterson on Jan. 6, 1911, in Fredericia, Denmark, a daughter to Mads Peter Peterson and Jensine Petrea Andrea Jensen. She moved to the Rogue Valley from San Jose in 1986.

On Oct. 12, 1931, in Minnesota, she married Guy F. McCammon, who died in 1981.

Mrs. McCammon enjoyed gardening, home decoration, crocheting and reading.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheri Reid of Rogue River and Dixie Farley of Campbell, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford.

James `Jim' Robinson

The graveside service for James Willard "Jim" Robinson, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Robinson, 83, of Central Point, died Sunday (May 9, 1999) at his home.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 2 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Ivan O. Sherk
Carlean Sherk

The memorial gathering for Ivan Otterlifter Sherk and his wife, Carlean Sherk, will be at noon Saturday in Palmerton Park in Rogue River. There will be a potluck lunch.

Mr. Sherk, 63, and his wife, Carlean, 55, of Kerby, died Jan. 23, 1999 in an automobile accident in Central Point.

Jeanne M. Singleton

The graveside service for Jeanne Muriel Singleton will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Singleton, 82, of Central Point, died Monday (May 10, 1999) at a local foster care.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Jeanne Dungey on Dec. 31, 1916, in Grants Pass.

On Sept. 26, 1938, in Grants Pass, she married Willard Singleton, who survives. She lived her entire life in the Grants Pass, Prospect and Central Point areas.

Mrs. Singleton was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Judy Schulz, Medford; a son, Jon Singleton, Portland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
