Marguerite P. Cushman

The memorial service for Marguerite P. Cushman will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gold Hill Methodist Church. The Rev. Jack Cornell of Gold Hill Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Rock Point Cemetery in Gold Hill.

Ms. Cushman, 87, of Medford, died Wednesday (May 5, 1999) at Farmington Square in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Research Alliance of Oregon, P.O. Box 10051, Portland, OR 97296-0051.

She was born Marguerite Pilgrim on March 25, 1912, in Grinnell, Iowa. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984.

Ms. Cushman was a secretary and life insurance agent.

She also did church committee and volunteer work and was a Cub Scout den leader.

Ms. Cushman was active in the Gold Hill Methodist Church Philanthropic Educational Organization. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Long Beach and Choice Hills Baptist Church in Las Vegas.

She enjoyed knitting and sewing, gardening, swimming and square dancing.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas, Gold Hill, James, Paso Robles, Calif., Charles, Addison, Ill., and Edward, Las Vegas, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth McGuire; and a brother, Clayton Pilgrim.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Inc. Medford.

Ellen Jean Goff Conger

The memorial service for Ellen Jeanne Goff Conger will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hull & Hull Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Kenneth Pennington of the Grants Pass Fourth Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will officiate. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Conger, 64, formerly of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (May 5, 1999) in Talent.

She was born Ellen Jeanne Goff on Jan. 10, 1935, in Grants Pass, a daughter of Homer C. and Abigail Goff. She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1953.

On Jan. 11, 1975, in Reno, Nev., she married Robert M. Conger, who survives. She returned to Oregon in 1993 from Anchorage, Alaska, and lived in Austin, Texas, from 1996 until January 1999.

Mrs. Conger was a bank teller and computer operator until 1998.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mrs. Conger enjoyed dance. Many church youth groups in Oregon and Alaska won dance competitions under her direction.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her mother, three daughters, Sandra Johnson, Grants Pass, Diane Erickson, Brigham City, Utah, and Becky Swartz, Auburn, Wash.; a son, Keith Latimer, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska; two brothers, Orla Goff, Grants Pass, and Vinton Goff, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Hull & Hull Funeral Home in Grants Pass.

Pamela D. Henderson

Pamela Denise Henderson, 44, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (May 5, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Pamela Mead on Sept. 7, 1954, in Visalia, Calif.

Mrs. Henderson enjoyed crafts, especially making Christmas tree ornaments.

Survivors include a son, Jason Rudy, Medford; three daughters, Dessary Ziegler and Erica Reed, both Medford, and Tiffany Henderson, Eagle Point; her parents, Clyde W. and Johnnie Lee Mead, Richland, Wash.; four brothers, Phillip Mead, Gold Hill, Michel and Ron Mead, both Richland, Wash., and Christopher Mead, Gurdon, Ark.; two sisters, Deborah Bailey, Medford, and Sheryl Mead, Richland, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Inc. Medford.

Marietta R. Smith

The funeral for Marietta R. Smith will be at 2 p.m. today. The location will be announced at the visitation. The Rev. John Dungey of Central Point will officiate. Interment will be in Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in California.

Mrs. Smith, 91, of Medford, died Thursday (May 6, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Marietta Ball on June 11, 1907, in Newton, Kan.

On Sept. 28, 1946, in Chico, Calif., she married William H. Smith, who died in 1980. She moved to Eagle Point in 1982.

Mrs. Smith was a dental technician.

She was a member of the Antelope Social Club of Eagle Point.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed travel, sewing and tinkering.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Ferguson, Mira Loma, Calif.; a son, George Cooper, Baja, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Jim Cooper, Bill Cooper, and Ralph Ferguson; and a brother, George Ball.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 1 p.m. today at Funeral Alternatives, 500 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Ida Anna Schmidt

Ida Anna Schmidt, 86, of Talent, died Thursday (May 6, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Ida Schmidt on Sept. 2, 1912, in Tampa, Kan.

On March 30, 1946, in Kansas, she married Ernest Schmidt, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Red Bluff, Calif.

Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed handcrafts, reading, flowers and word puzzles.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and Irvin; and a sister, Bertha.

Adolph Maurice Lind

The funeral for Adolph Maurice Lind will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Merlin Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 Merlin Galice Road.

Mr. Lind, 94, of Central Point, died Thursday (May 6, 1999) at his home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1904, in Homestead, Wis.

Mr. Lind worked in the timber industry in Iron Mountain, Mo., where he logged with horses. While in his mid-twenties, he moved to Portland, where he worked as a police officer. He later worked in the timber industry in the Redwoods. Before he retired, he was a contractor for California Oregon Power Co. He moved to Grants Pass during the Depression, and to Central Point in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Clara, of Central Point.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass.

Anne F. DeArmond

The memorial service for Anne F. DeArmond will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Woodburn. The Rev. Thomas Cartwright will officiate. Inurnment will be in Mount Crest Abbey Mausoleum, City View Cemetery, in Salem.

Mrs. DeArmond, 90, of Ashland, died Wednesday (May 5, 1999) at a local foster home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Ashland Public Library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520, or to a favorite charity.

She was born Anne Johnson on Nov. 23, 1908, in Independence.

On March 10, 1928, in Portland, she married Ivan DeArmond, who died in 1995.

Mrs. DeArmond and her husband farmed several hundred acres of grass seed in Hubbard. In 1962, they moved to Wilsonville, where they owned and operated a filbert orchard. In the early 1970s they moved to Woodburn Senior Estates. Mrs. DeArmond moved to Ashland in February 1999.

In Woodburn, she was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and the Woodburn Golf Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Lang, Ashland; three sisters, Blanche Wilson, Milwaukie, Joyce Ward, Klamath Falls, and Connie Holm, Salem; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland, and Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn.

Dorene R. Winkelman

The memorial service for Dorene Ruth Winkelman will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. John Dungey of Central Point will officiate.

Mrs. Winkelman, 73, of Central Point, died Tuesday (May 4, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dorene Ruth Stevenson on July 25, 1925, in Grants Pass.

On July 31, 1944, in Grants Pass, she married David Arthur Winkelman, who died in 1997. She lived in the Rogue Valley her entire life.

Mrs. Winkelman was a member of the Roxy Ann Gem & Mineral Society, the Roxy Ann Grange and the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, with whom she played at local nursing homes. She was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross from 1976 to 1994.

She enjoyed playing music, sewing and gardening.
