Iverna Lydia Svara

Iverna Lydia Svara, 82, of Medford, died Monday (March 15, 1999) at her home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Crete Riverside Cemetery in Crete, Neb.

She was born Iverna Lydia Rhynalds on July 9, 1916, in Saline County, Neb.

In 1940, in Omaha, Neb., she married Loron Farley, who died in 1960.

In 1968, in Las Vegas, she married Edward James Svara, who died in 1993. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorene Gentry, Medford, and Martha Lanitis, Moreno Valley, Calif.; a son, Rick Farley, Moses Lake, Wash.; four sisters, Irene M. Sonday, Free Union, Va., Dorothy J. Lee, Perry, Iowa, Hazel R. Heller, Washougal, Wash., and Margaret Nickolson, Crete; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil D. and Harold M. Rhynalds.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Inc., Medford.

Jeannetta Dole-Martino

The memorial service for Jeannetta I. Dole-Martino will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home in Salem. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Ms. Dole-Martino, 74, of Salem, formerly of Medford, died Friday (March 12, 1999) in Salem.

She was born Jeannetta I. Arnold on Nov. 23, 1924, in Ansley, Neb. She moved to Medford in 1936. In 1960, she moved to Dayton, and in 1973 to Salem.

Ms. Dole-Martino received her associate degree in real estate assessment.

She managed Draperies Incorporated and Rex Mobile Homes in McMinnville. Later she worked for the Marion County Tax Department, retiring in 1988.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking and crossword puzzles.

Survivors includes three sons, James Dole, Klamath Falls, Bruce Dole, Albany, and Darris Dole, Corvallis; two sisters, Arwilla Williams, Salem, and Arlene Hunter, Eugene; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Howell-Edwards-Doerksen, Salem.

Claude L. Campbell

The memorial service for Claude Luther Campbell will be at 1 p.m. Friday in West Main Church of Christ in Medford. Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate.

Mr. Campbell, 70, of Medford, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Phoenix, a son of Earl and Sarah (Barrow) Campbell. He was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

On Feb. 14, 1972, in Reno, Nev., he married Betty Kezer Christie, who survives.

Mr. Campbell was a cat skinner.

He was a member of the West Main Church of Christ.

He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Claude Jr., and Jim Christie, Central Point; four daughters, Linda Ashenberner, Medford, Terry Evans, Rosie Campbell, and Carol Baker, Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Cecil, Phoenix, and Jim, Springfield; two sisters, Odessa Veilbig, and Thelma Dunlap, both Central Point; and several grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Barbara D. Smith

Barbara D. Smith, 77, of Medford, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at a foster home in Medford. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Barbara D. Jones on July 5, 1921, in Olympia, Wash.

In 1939, she married Emanuel Contes, who preceded her in death.

In 1950, she married Eugene F. Smith, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Olympia.

Mrs. Smith was director of training and services with Manpower Inc. in San Jose, Calif., for 20 years. Following her move to Medford, she managed Southern Oregon Temporary Services for 11 years, retiring in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Toni A. Putney, Medford; a son, Michael A., Walnut Creek, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Jones.

Helen E. Cohen

The funeral service for Helen E. Cohen will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Chapel. The Rev. Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate.

Mrs. Cohen, 83, of Medford, died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at her home.

She was born Helen E. Bacon on Jan. 9, 1916, in Newcastle, Wyo.

On Oct. 16, 1945, she married Morris B. Cohen, who died in 1994. She moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Downey, Calif.

Mrs. Cohen was a bookkeeper for Sears and Roebuck Co. in Southern California until her retirement in the early 1970s.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Downey, Calif., and volunteered for many organizations.

Mrs. Cohen enjoyed gardening and handicrafts.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Cook, Medford, and Bill Cook; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

Lucille Anne Great

The memorial service for Lucille Anne Great will be at 4 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. The Rev. John Braund will officiate.

Mrs. Great, 67, of Talent, died Friday (March 12, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Lucille Anne Fink on Nov. 17, 1931, in Philomath. She moved to the Rogue Valley as a child.

On Sept. 2, 1950, in Medford, she married John David Great, who survives.

Mrs. Great enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, her cat and reading.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, John D. Jr., and Steven A., both Medford; a sister, Joan H. Adkins, Central Point; a brother, Daniel J. Matney, Turner; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roger G. Folger.

Mary Louise Skinner

The memorial service for Mary Louise Skinner will be Friday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Florence.

Mrs. Skinner, 91, of Florence, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Wednesday (March 10, 1999) at her home.

She was born Mary Louise Dutton on April 3, 1907, in Chassel, Mich. Her family moved to Portland in 1912, and she graduated from the University of Oregon in 1929. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

On April 20, 1935, in Pasadena, Calif., she married Paul "Laddie" Skinner, who survives. The couple settled in the Rogue Valley after World War II, living in Grants Pass, Medford and Ashland. They retired to Florence in 1969.

Mrs. Skinner was a free-lance writer, advertising copy writer and poet. Her articles and stories have been published in the Sacramento Bee, The Oregonian, the Mail Tribune and the Ashland Daily Tidings. In 1985, she published a book of her poems, "Diary of an Oregon Poet."

She was an active member of the Barnstormers theater group in the 1950s and 1960s. She also acted in, and directed, numerous plays in Grants Pass.

Mrs. Skinner was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Pen Women and Republican Women.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Jo Barrett-White, Medford, and Carol A. Johnson, Florence; and two grandsons.

James E. Curtis

James E. Curtis, 84, of Medford, died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 14, 1914, in St. Clair, Mich.

On Jan. 14, 1996, in Ashland, he married Marjorie A., who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1969 from San Jose, Calif.

Mr. Curtis was a charter member of the Rock, Gem and Mineral Society of Jackson County. He was a past master of the Warren Lodge No. 10 of Jacksonville, A.F. & A.M., and a Boy Scout leader for many years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, John, Truckee, Calif., Paul, San Francisco, Calif., and Carl, Orangevale, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Lavigne, St. Clair, and Mary Jeap, Mount Clemens, Mich.; four brothers, Robert, Mio, Mich., Arthur, Pompano Beach, Fla., Donald, St. Clair, and William, Midland, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services, Medford.

Derwin `Chick' Voss

Derwin "Chick" F. Voss, 78, of Medford, died Friday (March 12, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Omaha, Neb.

On Aug. 7, 1980, in Reno, Nev., he married Lois Finnell, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Oroville, Calif.

Mr. Voss worked in the mills as a millwright.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Voss was a life member of the Elk Lodge in Leadville, Colo., and a 30-year member of the Eagles Lodge in Oroville, Calif.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, camping, bowling and mining for gold.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Shella Voss, Oroville, Calif.; a son Gary Garfolo, Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Marie Talbitzer, Oroville, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy "Bud" Voss.

Arrangements: Telophase, Portland.
