Richard W. Schwahn

Dr. Richard W. "Dick" Schwahn, 85, died Saturday (Feb. 27, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Farmington Square, 1530 Poplar Drive, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Stevens Point, Wis.

On Dec. 31, 1945, in Oakland, Calif., he married Seone Anderson, who survives.

A graduate of the medical school at the University of Wisconsin, he came to the Medford Clinic in 1956, after working six years at Emanuel Hospital in Portland. He retired in the early 1990s.

Dr. Schwahn was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club and enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Richard, Medford; two daughters, Caron Lesh, Las Vegas, Nev., and Diane Brusseau, Vancouver, Wash,; and two sisters, Betty Walch, Wisconsin Dells, Wisc., and Ruth Bartz, Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Arrangements: Perl at Siskiyou Funeral Services.

Allen B. Smith

Allen B. Smith, 83, of Jacksonville, died Thursday (Feb. 25, 1999) at Hearthstone Manor in Medford. A private service was held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Foundation for hospice care, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 16, 1915, in Geary, Okla. He and his wife, Edna, who survives, moved to the Rogue Valley from Texas in 1986.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Tammy Dyer, Jacksonville, and Lois "Tina" Titus, Chehalis, Wash.; a son, William A. Smith, Pine River, Minn.; a brother, Floyd, Modesto, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Ellyn Samantha Charley

The graveside service for Ellyn Samantha Charley will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brownsboro Cemetery in Eagle Point. Paul Mather of the Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brownsboro Cemetery Association, 13090 Highway 140, Eagle Point, OR 97524.

She was born Ellyn Samantha Lamphiear on March 5, 1903, in La Conner, Wash.

Mrs. Charley moved to the Rogue Valley in 1928 to begin her career as a school teacher. She taught several years in Talent and Medford before she married Brownsboro rancher Leland M. Charley in White Rock, Calif. He died in 1982.

The couple operated the Charley Hereford Ranch with her husband's brothers until 1975, when they moved to Medford.

She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Jackson County Home Extension, and the Lake Creek Grange. For 30 years she served as secretary of the Lake Creek Grange.

She enjoyed sharing music with her husband during their 55 years of marriage.

Survivors include a daughter, Charmayne Stewart, Eugene; and two granddaughters, Sheila Blair, Eugene, and Shari Davis, Eugene.

Mary Lee Bagley

The memorial service for Mary Lee Bagley will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Perl Funeral Service Siskiyou Chapel, Medford.

Mrs. Bagley, 89, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 27, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenix-Talent School Foundation, 401 W. Fourth St., Phoenix, OR 97535, Talent Historical Society, 206 E. Main St., Talent, 97540, or the Winema Girl Scout Council, 2001 N. Keene Way Drive, Medford OR 97504.

She was born Mary Rabecca Lee on July 9, 1909 in Missoula, Mont.

On Feb. 14, 1946, in Spokane, Wash., she married Willima Richardson Bagley, who preceded her in death. They couple moved to Talent in 1946.

She was a life member of the Talent Garden Club, a Girl Scout leader, and volunteer director at Camp Low Echo at Lake of the Woods for several years during the 1950s. She also was a member of the Republican Women's Club, Knife and Fork Club, the Farm Bureau, and an advisory committee member to the Phoenix-Talent School Board.

A member of the board of directors of the Talent Historical Society, her interest in local history made her a resource for others who published books about Rogue Valley history.

She and her husband were selected Talent's citizens of the year and grand marshals for the Talent Harvest Festival parade in 1989.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, William R. Bagley, Medford; a daughter, Judy Barnes, Medford; a brother, Wade Lee, Missoula, Mont.; a sister, Dorothy Adams, of California; and four grandchildren.

Norman Edison Burke

Norman Edison Burke, 86, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

He was born May 10, 1912 in Portland.

Mr. Burke attended the University of Oregon, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, before coming to the Rogue Valley more than 50 years ago.

He was one of the top salesmen at Skinner Buick Cadillac for 17 years before retiring.

Mr. Burke enjoyed playing golf at Rogue Valley Country Club.

Survivors include Irene Cochran Burke, his wife of almost 60 years; a son, James Burke, Jacksonville; a brother, Donald Burke, San Rafael, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Dale L. Boyle

Dale L. Boyle, 72, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (Feb. 23, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A memorial service will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504 or to Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo.

On July 3, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan., he married Marian Smith, who survives.

Mr. Boyle served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in the Army during the Korean War.

He was an aerospace engineer for 30 years with Lockheed until retiring in 1986.

Mr. Boyle also taught for Foothill College in Los Altos, Calif.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987 from California.

He was chapter chairman of Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and a member of the Central Point Community Bible Church. He was a model train hobbyist and enjoyed gardening, especially planting trees, reading and wildlife watching.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Andrea Boyle, Medford, and Peggy Treitman, Hollister, Calif.; a brother, James, Bellevue, Wash.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Geer.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Barbara Jean Kramer

The funeral for Barbara Jean Kramer will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. The Rev. John Braund of the Phoenix First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery.

Mrs. Kramer, 71, of Medford, died Thursday (Feb. 25, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Barbara Amunson on March 12, 1927, in Rapid City, S.D.

She moved to the Rogue Valley more than 30 years ago from Eugene.

She attended the Unity Church in Medford and enjoyed spending time at the Medford Senior Center.

Survivors include her fiance, Bert Serrano, Medford; two daughters, Ann Spragg, Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Susan Spragg, McKinney, Texas; three brothers, Dolph Amunson, Sparks, Nev., Floyd D. Amunson, Belle Fouch, S.D., and Darrol Amunson, in Texas; a sister, Evelyn Heeb, Bremerton, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

LaGretta Emma O'Rourke

LaGretta Emma O'Rourke, 78, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.

She was born LaGretta Cahoy on Feb. 21, 1921, in Yankton, S.D.

In 1941, in Roswell, N.M., she married Ambrose O'Rourke, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. O'Rourke was an active member of Joy Christian Fellowship and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Glee O'Rourke and Gwen Nelson, both Medford; two sons, Stan, Custer, S.D., and Dennis, Colfax, Calif.; two sisters, Lillian Meuhl, Custer, and Mable Nohava, Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Happy Cahoy.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
