Arthur "Bubba" Young

A funeral service for Arthur Ted "Bubba" Young, formerly of Medford, will be held Wednesday in Yakima, Wash.

Mr. Young, 52, of Yakima, died Friday (Jan. 15, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Church, 520 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

Mr. Young was born Oct. 7, 1946 in the Yakima Valley.

He grew up in the Yakima Valley, where he began to play the drums when he was in the fourth grade.

On Nov. 30, 1980 in Sunnyside, Wash., he married Dora "Betty" Benavidas, who survives. The couple then moved to Medford.

Mr. Young lived in Medford for the past 15 years, but returned to Yakima in December to be near family as his health failed.

He served in the U.S. Navy, then moved to Houston before settling in the Pacific Northwest.

In Medford, he was a member of the Lighthouse Church, worked as a drummer and enjoyed making toys from wood.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his parents, Bud and Jean Young, Yakima; two daughters, Gidget Cook and Tammy Young, both of Tieton, Wash.; four stepsons, John Garcia of Renton, Wash., and David, James and Wayne McBrearty, all of Renton; a step-daughter, Rosemary Pike of Medford; three brothers, Gerald Young of Medford, Richard Young of Puyallup, Wash., and Dan Young of San Diego; a sister, Laura Mae Landsden of Selah, Wash.; his grandmother, Laura Roberts of Wapato, Wash.; two grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

Blanche M. Collier

The funeral for Blanche M. Collier will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Living Praise Pentecostal Church of God, Central Point. The Rev. Phil Gore will officiate.

Mrs. Collier, 78, of White City, died Wednesday (Jan. 13, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Living Praise Pentecostal Church of God, 115 Gibbon Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born Blanche Burleson on Jan. 16, 1920, in Portland.

On July 15, 1934, in Portland, she married William H. Collier, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Collier lived in the Rogue Valley off and on for the past 25 years, moving from Phoenix, Ariz.

As the wife of a pastor, she was active in church activities.

She enjoyed composing and playing music.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel, White City, and Michael, Morrisville, Vt.; a daughter, Patricia DenHartog, Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sharon R. Cooper, died in 1971.

Louise R. Bond

Louise R. Bond, 92, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 14, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Louise Rowland on June 5, 1906, in Bevier, Mo.

Mrs. Bond attended schools and university in Missouri.

During World War II, she served as an officer with U.S. Naval Intelligence.

On May 1, 1946, in Washington, D.C., she married Lawrence Michael Bond, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bond taught foreign languages in New Jersey public schools until her retirement in 1966.

She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Survivors include a son, Michael R., Medford; a sister, Mary Evans, Macon, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Ronald Leonard Dean

Ronald Leonard Dean, 50, of Shady Cove, died Jan. 7, 1999, in an automobile accident near Fish Lake. A memorial service will be held later. Interment will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery in Franklin, Ga.

He was born May 8, 1948, in Miami.

On Aug. 12, 1983, in Englewood, Colo., he married Karen Brey, who survives.

Mr. Dean served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a firefighter for 14 years with the Englewood Fire Department before becoming disabled.

Mr. Dean moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago from Englewood.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Dean, Edgewater, Colo.; two sons, Justin, Shady Cove, and Ronnie, Edgewater; a daughter, Andrea Dean, Denver; and his mother, Edith Dean, Franklin. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donnie, in 1995, and by his father, George, in 1996.

Ralph Dean Dahlquist

Ralph Dean Dahlquist, 73, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (Jan. 13, 1999) at Hearthstone in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Duluth, Minn.

On March 16, 1959, in Las Vegas, he married Juanita Mayo, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from San Marco, Calif.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Dahlquist was a chief engineer on oceangoing vessels.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Dianna Lynne Weinhold, Springfield; two sons, Michael Avent, in Maryland, and Chris Avent, in Minnesota; a stepdaughter, Rosemary Eastman, in Maryland; a brother, Richard Germer, Balsom Lake, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Claude Underwood

The memorial service for Claude Underwood will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point. The Rev. Jim Clifford will officiate.

Mr. Underwood, 84, of Central Point, died Thursday (Jan. 14, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

He was born June 17, 1914, in Mannsville, Ky. He was raised and attended school in Marseilles, Ill.

On May 24, 1943, in St. Louis, he married Deloris M. Ewing, who survives.

Mr. Underwood moved to Decatur, Ill. after his marriage, and worked at Houdialle Hershey Corp. In 1956, he moved to Southern California, where he owned and operated a carpet business, retiring in 1975. He moved to Oregon in 1977.

Mr. Underwood was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point.

He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Robert Kenneth, Medford; two daughters, Linda LaFever, Medford, and Sharon Slesar, Gilbert, Ariz.; a sister, Stella Flori, Marseilles, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Beverly `Teeter' Dillon Grondin

Friends and relatives of Beverly "Teeter" Dillon Grondin will gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the family's home, 3718 New Hope Road, Grants Pass.

Mrs. Grondin, 54, of Grants Pass, died Monday (Jan. 11, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital & Health Center, Dimmick Campus.

She was born Beverly Wayne Townsend on Aug. 12, 1944, in Santa Monica, Calif. She moved to Oregon 27 years ago from Canoga Park, Calif.

Ms. Grondin had worked for Teledyne in California, and for the Pizza Mill in Grants Pass.

She enjoyed her garden, and collecting antiques, especially glass.

Survivors include her longtime companion, Dennis "Bubba" Grondin, Grants Pass; five daughters, Randi Larsen, Sandi Larsen, Mandi Westman, Candi Pendelton and Jennifer Dillon, all of Grants Pass; five sisters, Jackie Roley, Carol "Cookie" McClanahan, Janice Redfeldt, Nanci Townsend, and Gayle "GiGi" Valencia, all of Grants Pass; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Floy Townsend, and a grandchild, Travis Craig.

Paul L. Travis Jr.

Friends of Paul L. Travis Jr. will gather at 2 p.m. Sunday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland.

Mr. Travis, 71, of Talent, died Jan. 5, 1999, at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.

He was born April 20, 1927, in Paradise Valley, Nev. He graduated from Ashland High School and earned a master's degree in physics and geological science.

Mr. Travis served in the U.S. Army, and was a retired data analyst. He lived in New Mexico, Connecticut, California, Nevada and Michigan before returning to Ashland in the late 1980s.

He was a member of the Audubon Society and the Sierra Club.

Mr. Travis was a naturalist, and enjoyed volunteering in the geology and biology departments at Southern Oregon University and in the National Parks system, especially the Lava Beds National Monument.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Sunyer, San Jose, Calif.

Melvin Willert Reinke

Melvin Willert Reinke, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 13, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Marinette, Wis.

On March 5, 1949, in Reno, Nev., he married Belle E. Hazen, who died in 1993.

Mr. Reinke was an ink foreman for Milprint Paper Company in South San Francisco, Calif., until his retirement in 1976.

He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed bow and rifle hunting.

Survivors include two daughters, Dori Ann Reinke, Talent, and Merry Overton, Angels Camp, Calif.; a sister, Naomi Bowman, Hazel Green, Wis.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Lloyd and Harold, and a sister, Ruth Paap.
