George Samuel Payant

The funeral for George Samuel Payant will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel. The Rev. Liam Cary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.

Mr. Payant, 80, of Talent, died Tuesday (Dec. 22, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born June 28, 1918, in Kalama, Wash.

On Aug. 6, 1939, in Yreka, Calif., he married Carrie C. Bradbury, who died in 1989. He lived in the Rogue Valley all of his life.

Mr. Payant was a veneer grader with Boise Cascade until his retirement in 1981.

Survivors include a son, George, Medford; two daughters, Patricia Stevens, Talent, and Janeen Snopl, Happy Camp, Calif.; a brother, Darrel, Medford; a sister, Alletha Kimbrell, Williams; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Slayton, and a brother, Donald.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel.

Janny J. Gleaves

The memorial service for Janny J. Gleaves will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eternal Hills Chapel in Klamath Falls. Entombment will be in Eternal Hills Haven of Rest Mausoleum. A second memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Clubhouse of the McNary Golf Course in Keizer. Pastor Jerry Scansen will officiate.

Mrs. Gleaves, 63, of Keizer, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 22, 1998) in Keizer.

She was born Janny J. Rice on Jan. 15, 1935, in Emmett, Idaho.

In July of 1950, in Medford, she married Gerald Gleaves, who survives.

The couple owned and operated Jerry Gleaves Motors in Medford until 1975, when they moved to Beaverton, where they owned Jerry Gleaves Volkswagen until they retired in 1981.

Mrs. Gleaves was a homemaker.

She was a former member of the First Christian Church in Medford and the Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1247.

Mrs. Gleaves enjoyed traveling and playing golf.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Deborah Vanderhoff, Klamath Falls; two sons, Gregory, Sherwood, and Jeffrey, Newberg; her stepfather, Ed White, Klamath Falls; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements: Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, Klamath Falls.

Jean Turner

The funeral service for Jean Turner will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, Kan. The Revs. Claire Uitts and Rick Thomason will officiate. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery.

Mrs. Turner, 58, of McCune, Kan., formerly of Jacksonville and Medford, died Monday (Dec. 21, 1998) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

She was born Jean Misener on Sept. 5, 1940, in Elsinore, Calif. She lived in Medford and Jacksonville in the 1950s and 1960s and then moved to Anaheim, Calif., where she graduated from high school.

On Nov. 24, 1975, in Las Vegas, she married David E. Turner Jr., who survives.

Mrs. Turner later returned to Medford and Spokane, Wash., where she operated an adult care home for a number of years. She retired in 1995. She moved from Elk, Wash. to McCune in 1998.

She attended the Nazarene Church in McCune.

Mrs. Turner enjoyed crafts and knitting.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Jeffrey Hustrom, Medford, Brady Turner, McCune, Kan., and David E. Turner III, Fort Carson, Colo.; five daughters, Leola Rynsburger, Strathmore, Calif., Judy Broersma, Orange, Calif., Patricia Krebs, Chickasha, Okla., Paula Sanford, Tucson, Ariz., and Kristi Turner, McCune, Kan.; a brother, Wayne Misener, Tonopah, Nev.; a sister, Nancy Nelson, Southern California; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Misener; two sisters, Jane Haas and Pat Misener; and one grandson, Michael Turner.

Lois Hazel Roberts

Lois Hazel Roberts, 74, of Ashland, died Saturday (Dec. 19, 1998) at her home. Private memorial services were held. A memorial service also is being planned for this summer on Mount Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 98, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1924, in Burbank, Calif.

During World War II she worked for Adel-Lockheed, manufacturing clips for pipes in war planes.

On April 17, 1943, in Los Angeles, she married Albert C. Roberts, who survives. She moved to Ashland in 1957.

Mrs. Roberts was the first clerk hired by Safeway when it opened in Ashland in 1963. She retired in 1990.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting and bowling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Sami Dusenberry, Shady Cove, and Linda Holbrook, Oregon City; a brother, Jene Morgan, Sacramento, Calif.; five granddaughters; and four great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Eleanor Felton Ritchie

Eleanor Felton Ritchie, 95, of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 21, 1998) at Rogue Valley Manor. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

She was born Eleanor Felton on Feb. 13, 1903, in York, Neb.

She married Walter Edmund Ritchie, who preceded her in death in 1963.

Mrs. Ritchie graduated from college as a draftsman in the field of civil engineering.

She moved to the Rogue Valley from Oakland, Calif., in 1982.

Survivors include a niece, Glenda Brown, Estes Park, Colo. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Brown.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Scott D. Whiteley

The memorial service for Scott D. Whiteley will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville. The Rev. Jack Bransford will officiate.

Mr. Whiteley, 32, of Ruch, died Saturday (Dec. 19, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1966, in Medford, a son of James and Luella Whiteley.

Mr. Whiteley was a truck driver with R.W. Jacks of Ruch.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and playing tournament pool and darts.

Survivors include his father, James, Ruch; a sister, Cindy Whiteley, Ruch; and two nieces, Jessica and Tabbitha Kukert, Ruch. He was preceded in death by his mother, Luella Whiteley.

Vera Rogers Bergstrom

Vera Rogers Bergstrom, 81, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Dec. 22, 1998) at her home. A private memorial service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Vera Rogers on July 17, 1917, in Beaverton. She grew up in Beaverton and Seattle.

On May 21, 1939, in Seattle, she married Walter E. Bergstrom, who survives.

Mrs. Bergstrom moved to Ashland three years ago from La Selva Beach, Calif.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Bruce, Ashland, and Richard, Colville, Wash.; a daughter, Susan B. Lyttle, Palo Alto, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Brent Irvin Branson

The memorial service for Brent Irvin Branson will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rogue River Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4300 N. River Road. Pastor Walter Mancia of Rogue River Seventh-day Adventist Church and Pastor Richard Leithner of Foots Creek Chapel, Gold Hill will officiate. A private burial will be held.

Mr. Branson, 44, of Rogue River, died Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) at his home.

He was born on Dec. 24, 1953, in Kansas City, Mo. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Orange County, Calif., in 1988.

Mr. Branson was a recreational vehicle mechanic. Prior to that he was employed by Scala Electronics in Medford.

He enjoyed Indian artifacts, woodworking, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy, San Rafael, Calif., and Kyle; four daughters, Sara Branson, Santa Barbara, Calif., Trisha Clark, Garden Grove, Calif., Casey Branson and Christina Branson; his mother, Bette Branson, Fairbanks, Alaska; two brothers, Mike, Central Point, and Jason, Costa Mesa, Calif.; and a sister, Joy Branson Smith, San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Branson, in 1993.

Constance Hettinga

Constance Hettinga, 74, of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 21, 1998) at Hearthstone. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lovejoy Hospice, 400 N.E. E St., Grants Pass, OR 97526, or to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born on March 10, 1924, in Kidderminster Borough, England.

On Dec. 11, 1943, in Kidderminster, she married Peter Hettinga, who died earlier this year.

During World War II she served in the British Army.

Mrs. Hettinga was a homemaker.

She was an active member of the Eagles Lodge in Salem.

Mrs. Hettinga enjoyed sewing and crafts.

Survivors include three sons, John, Phoenix, Roy, St. Helens, and Jim, Chino, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Hamm, Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Audrey Curtis, Redwood City, Calif.; a brother, Leonard Baker, in England; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
