Ardell N. Wiefericho

The graveside service for Ardell N. Wiefericho will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Jacksonville Cemetery. Pastor John Wiuff of the Medford First Church of God will officiate.

Mrs. Wiefericho, 79, of Central Point, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Ardell Watts on July 12, 1919, in Mountainburg, Ark.

In 1957, in Fresno, Calif., she married Anthony Henry Wiefericho, who died in 1990.

Mrs. Wiefericho lived in Fresno for 30 years before moving to Central Point in March of this year.

She was a nurse until retiring in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Mrs. Wiefericho was an active member of the Church of God in Fresno and enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie V. Morris, Santa Barbara, and Carolyn Ann Cox, Surprise, Ariz.; a son, Dale Warren Rye, Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grady Wallace Jr.; two sons, Leon and Grady Wallace; a daughter, Linda Darlene Wallace; a sister, Clara Nalett; and two grandsons.

Friends may pay their respects from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Phyllis Lorraine Kyker

Phyllis Lorraine Kyker, 74, of Medford, died Sunday (Sept. 20, 1998) at her home. A private service is planned. Inurnment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Phyllis Cleven on July 31, 1924, in Marshfield. The family moved to Medford in 1925.

Mrs. Kyker was a 1942 graduate of Medford High School.

On Oct. 3, 1948, in Reno, she married Wayne H. Kyker, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kyker was a division secretary for California Pacific Utilities which later became WP Natural Gas. She retired after 40 years of service.

She enjoyed shopping and bargain hunting.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Parker, Central Point, and Brenda M. Fulmer, Medford; two sons, Richard L., Central Point, and David W., Medford; a sister, Viola Tooker, Medford; three brothers, Edgar Cleven, Medford, Glenn Cleven, Klamath Falls, and Alvin Cleven, Olympia, Wash.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A son, Larry, preceded her in death.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Melvin W. McGrew

Melvin W. McGrew, 93, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A memorial service will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born April 23, 1905, in Langley, Wash., on Whidbey Island where his father had a logging operation. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1915.

On Oct. 7, 1926, in Yreka, Calif., he married Olive I. Pellett, who died in 1995.

Mr. McGrew began his career in the lumber business working at his father's sawmill on Wagoner Butte. He and his brother, Elroy, formed Johnson-McGrew Brothers Logging Co. with Vern Johnson in 1946. They bought the partnership in 1948, establishing McGrew Brothers Logging Co. In 1953, they founded McGrew Brothers Sawmill in Medford, moving the operation to Ashland in 1963.

They bought a wholesale lumber company in 1972, operating it as Rogue Forest Products in Medford. The brothers formed MBS Door and Veneer in White City in 1978, operating it until 1982 when Croman Co. bought the sawmill.

In the 1950s, Mr. McGrew raced outboard motor boats, setting a national speed record for the D utility class run-a-bout.

He bought thoroughbred racehorses in 1970 and formed the Five Star Racing Stable.

Mr. McGrew was a charter member, president and on the board of Southern Oregon Conservation and Tree Farm Association, predecessor of Southern Oregon Timber Industries. He was a director of Keep Oregon Green Association, a member of Rogue Valley Hoo Hoos, Central Point Masonic Lodge, Hillah Shrine Temple in Ashland, Ashland Elks Lodge and a patron of Order of Eastern Star.

Mr. McGrew was proud of his Oregon heritage. His paternal grandmother walked the Oregon Trail in 1847.

Survivors include a son, Jerald J., Jacksonville; a daughter, Marjorie Vaughn, Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis and Elroy.

Marjorie Tinsley Oliver

Marjorie Tinsley Oliver, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (Sept. 22, 1998) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Marjorie Tinsley on May 5, 1918, in Chicago, Ill.

In 1937, in Waukegan, Ill., she married Conrad J. Oliver, who preceded her in death. They lived in Waukegan until the early 1950s, subsequently living in California and Hawaii.

Mrs. Oliver moved to the Rogue Valley from Chula Vista, Calif. in 1983.

Survivors include two sons, William, Lakewood, Colo., and John, Newbury Park, Calif.; a brother, Thomas J. Tinsley, Jacksonville; two sisters, Mary Ann Johnson, Central Point and Nancy Field, St. Paul, Minn.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Roy Tinsley, Jr., and a grandson.

Orland `Perry' Perry

Orland "Perry" Perry, 77, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. Private services will be held at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Santa Cruz, Calif.

In 1944 he married Lois Allen, who preceded him in death.

On July 13, 1978, in Grants Pass, he married Bette M. Brewster, who survives.

Mr. Perry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1939 and served with the 30th Infantry at the Presidio at San Francisco. During WWII he transferred to the Army Air Corps. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and served as a bombardier and bomber pilot in Europe.

He also served during the Korean War. In 1960, after 22 years of service, he retired as a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Perry moved to Oregon from Salinas, Calif., in 1966.

He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Joan Terry, Azalea, and Pat Perry, Sonoma, Calif.; a son, Steve; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Kenneth Robert Buxton

The funeral for Kenneth Robert Buxton will be at noon Friday in Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Graveside services will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Mr. Buxton, 82, of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 21, 1998) in Medford.

Memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Iowa. He lived in the Rogue Valley since 1946.

On July 21, 1978, in Ashland, he married Dorothy Goddard, who survives.

Mr. Buxton served in the U.S. Army for 40 years, retiring as a major and provost marshal.

Following his retirement from the Army, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years, retiring in 1975.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Sandra Coyle, Portland; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Naomi C. Governor

The memorial service for Naomi Charlotte Governor will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Medford Friends Church, 525 DeBarr St. The Rev. Mark Burton of Medford Friends Church will officiate.

Mrs. Governor, 80, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army Charities, P.O. Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Naomi Charlotte Clark on Sept. 4, 1918, in Portland. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Portland in 1980.

On May 14, 1980, in Gold Hill, she married F. Ivan Governor, who survives.

Mrs. Governor was a member of Pioneer Methodist Church in St. John's.

She enjoyed her volunteer work with the church.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Robert Hain, Montague, Calif., and David Hain, Madras; a daughter, Nancy Astleford, Tillamook; a brother, Dan Clark, Portland; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bishop, and two brothers Paul David and Samuel Clark.

Cecil Monroe Hanscom

Cecil Monroe Hanscom, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) in Salem. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Ashland, a son of Daniel and Mary Hanscom.

On June 12, 1945, in Philomath, he married Bernice Oma Killian, who survives.

Mr. Hanscom was a truck driver until retirement.

In WWII he served in the Army Air Force from 1942 until 1945.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Richard, Medford, Charles, Salem, and Timothy, stationed in Texas; four daughters, Pat Rivera, White City, Peggy Agnew and Mary Dyer, both Medford; and Ellen Hanscom, Bend; a sister, Gertrude Williams, Central Point; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Chet, Irving, John, Floyd and Carl, and two sisters, Gladys and Ivy.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford.
