Mary Ellen Hughes
The memorial service for Mary Ellen Rose Hughes will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Perl Funeral Services, Siskiyou, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford. The Rev. Dwayne Brown of Central Point First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Inurnment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park Carillon Tower.

Mrs. Hughes, 77, died Saturday (Sept. 19) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born Mary Ellen Rose on Oct. 30, 1920, at Hartline, Wash.
In 1959 she married Charles K. Hughes, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989, when she retired after working for 25 years in the commercial credit department of the the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
She enjoyed her family and creating beauty in her garden.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Loretta Garfield of Medford, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Clyde F. McGowan
Clyde Francis McGowan, 75, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at Hearthstone Manor. No service is planned.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1923, in Crescent City, Calif. He lived most of his life in the Rogue Valley.
On Aug. 5, 1946, in Medford, he married May L. Verschoor, who preceded him in death.
Mr. McGowan worked in many local orchards, and also was an auto detailer for Courtesy Chevrolet.
He enjoyed antique automobiles.
Survivors include a daughter, Pearl Leaton, Medford; two brothers, Orland McGowan, Central Point, and George Moore, Medford; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Wanda McGowan, and a brother, Marvin Hamilton, preceded him in death.

Kathryn `Irene' Horn
The memorial service for Kathryn Irene Horn will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Medford First United Methodist Church. The Rev. C. Bunny Oliver of the First United Methodist Church and Pastor John Mack of the Gospel Tabernacle will officiate.
A funeral was held in Nescopeck, Pa., with interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, Pa.
Mrs. Horn, 81, of Medford, died Aug. 16, 1998, at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Kathryn Filer on Feb. 4, 1917, in Baltimore, Md. She grew up in Baltimore and Altoona, Pa., where her father was an inspector for the railroad.
On April 5, 1936, in Hazelton, Pa., she married Eugene C. Horn, who survives.
For more than 40 years, Mrs. Horn managed her husband's State Farm Insurance business and later was an insurance broker for several smaller companies.
She was a Girl Scout leader for many years.
Mrs. Horn was active in Albright United Methodist Church in Nescopeck and a member of the Medford First United Methodist Church, American Business Women's Association, Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and Dames of Malta.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, ceramics and sewing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Linda Reichwein, Medford; and two step-sisters, Patricia Winters, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Joyce Wyings, Bloomsburg, Pa.

Eva A. Sawyer
The memorial service for Eva Alma Sawyer will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Redmond Memorial Park in Redmond. The Rev. Christopher Blair of the Powell Butte Church will officiate.
Mrs. Sawyer, 93, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at Hearthstone Manor in Medford.
She was born Eva Alma Daw Aug. 13, 1905, in Big Fork, Ontario, Canada.
She married Don W. Sawyer, who preceded her in death. She became a U.S. citizen Dec. 3, 1946, an accomplishment of which she was always proud. She lived in the Rogue Valley for 15 years after moving from Redmond.
Mrs. Sawyer enjoyed flower gardening and was known as an excellent seamstress.
Survivors include two sons, John Moran, Medford, and Leonard Roy, Point Francis, Canada; a daughter, Virginia Eiden, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Goldie Lloyd, Winnipeg, Canada; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Roy; five sisters, Lou Easterly, Lilly Burns, Ethel Daw, Grace Hammon and her twin Ava "Abby" Roy; and five brothers, Percy, Garland, Stanley, Harold and Roy Daw.

Calvin L. Walter
Calvin L. Walter, 68, died Friday (Sept. 18, 1998) in Salem. No service is planned. Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
He was born Feb. 12, 1930, in San Jose, Calif.
On Sept. 7, 1951, he married Bertha A. Walter, who survives. They moved to Medford in 1956 and stayed until moving to Salem in 1977.
Mr. Walter joined the Oregon State Police in 1952 and transferred to Medford in 1956. He served as a communications officer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medford.
In addition to his church, Mr. Walter enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Survivors include a son, Gary Walter, and a daughter, Sharry Woodward, both of Salem; and four grandchildren.

Joe H. Rodgers III
The funeral for Joe Harrison Rodgers III will be at noon Monday at the Masonic Temple, 975 N. Phoenix Road, Medford. The Rev. Kenneth West will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Rodgers, 75, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at his home.
He was born June 25, 1923, in Ranger, Texas.
On Jan. 25, 1948, in Las Vegas, he married Gloria Collell, who survives. They moved to Eagle Point in 1994 from Klamath Falls.
Mr. Rodgers was past master of Klamath Falls Masonic Ponderosa Lodge No. 197 A.F. & A.M., and past commander of Legion of Honor and Reban of Hillbillies Unit, Shrine Hillah Temple. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and his C.B. radio.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Joe Harrison IV, Eagle Point; two daughters, Dianna Rodgers, Eugene, and Debbie Jeanne Collell, Victoria, B.C.; a stepson, Gary Lawrence, Las Vegas; and two grandchildren. A sister preceded him in death.
Friends may pay their respects from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday in the Phoenix Masonic Temple.

Faye Violet Bauer
Faye Violet Bauer, 90, of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 14, 1998) while visiting her son and grandson in Orlando, Fla. Friends and family will gather today at Leu Gardens in Orlando.

She was born Faye Johnson on March 15, 1908, in Gibson City, Ill.
Mrs. Johnson lived in Illinois, Oregon and Florida and enjoyed travels, camping and adventures throughout the U.S. and the world, including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Yugoslavia and the Panama Canal.
Survivors include a son, Donald, Orlando; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul Jacob Bauer in 1981; and a daughter, Dodie Peterson in 1997.

Hazel I. Bergman
The graveside service for Hazel I. Bergman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Jim Clifford of Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church will officiate.
Mrs. Bergman, 90, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born Hazel Hartshorn on Dec. 22, 1907, in Pittsburg, Kan.
On July 15, 1962, in Reno, she married Delbert J. Bergman, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bergman moved to Medford in 1950, where she worked at the J.C. Penney store until retiring in 1972.
She enjoyed training Labrador retrievers and attending dog trials with her husband. She also enjoyed deer hunting, planting flowers and canning produce from her garden.
Survivors include a son, Richard Carter, Central Point; a daughter, Judy Staten, Upland, Calif.; two stepsons, Terry, Richmond, Calif., and David, Walnut Creek, Calif.; a sister, Marge Spafford, Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
