Eudora Marie Lydiard

The memorial service for Eudora Marie Lydiard will be held Monday at Moreland Presbyterian Church in Portland. A memorial service will be held later in the Rogue Valley.

Mrs. Lydiard, 93, formerly of Central Point, died Saturday (Aug. 15, 1998) in Milwaukie, where she was living.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Eudora Evans on June 8, 1905, in Hoquiam, Wash.

On Sept. 30, 1923, she married Arnold Bohnert at Lithia Park in Ashland. Together they worked on their Central Point farm. Mr. Bohnert died in 1965.

On June 27, 1971, she married Stanley Lydiard, who died in August 1972.

Mrs. Lydiard moved to Portland in 1972.

She was a member of the Medford First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and active in the women's group. She also was active in the Central Point Grange and Central Point Garden Club and the Home Extension Unit of Jackson County.

Mrs. Lydiard enjoyed raising and judging miniature roses.

Survivors include two daughters, Anne M. Krupp, Medford, and Norrene Thompson, Milwaukie; two sons, Don W. Bohnert and Marvin A. Bohnert, both Central Point; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes, Portland.

Kenneth F. Barneburg

The memorial gathering for Kenneth Frederick Barneburg will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Roseburg. The Rev. Stacy Hance will officiate with members of the Oakland Masonic Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. participating. Private inurnment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park, Portland.

Mr. Barneburg, 85, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 16, 1998) at a care center in Roseburg. His home was in Roseburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Scottish Rite Foundation for Childhood Language Disorders (SRFCLD), 709 S.W. Fifth Ave., Portland, OR 97205, or to a favorite charity.

He was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Medford, a son of Frederick and Etta Tucker Barneburg. His great-grandparents were pioneers to the Medford area, coming from Iowa in 1852 on the Oregon Trail.

Mr. Barneburg grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.

On Dec. 22, 1967, in Salem, he married Freddy Lou Buchanan, who survives.

He graduated from what is now Southern Oregon University, receiving a teaching certificate and later bachelor's and master's degrees.

Mr. Barneburg began his career in education in 1934 as principal of Evans Valley School in Wimer. During the Depression, he walked 19 miles to apply for a teaching position in Santa Clara near Eugene, holding that job for one year.

In 1938, he worked at Wilbur school and was postmaster there as well as a school bus driver. Later he taught ninth-grade math at Roseburg Junior High School.

Mr. Barneburg accepted an appointment to the Douglas County School Office and later was named county superintendent, holding that position for 29 years.

He worked with the Oregon Legislature in the 1950s on school reform and consolidation.

In 1968, he was selected for a professional exchange to Germany where he studied the educational processes there.

He retired in 1976.

Mr. Barneburg served many positions within state and county education systems and was active in the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators, Oregon Association of School Executives, American Association of School Administrators, the Oregon Association of County School Districts and Oregon School Boards Association.

A Mason for more than 50 years, he was active in Oakland Masonic Lodge, Hillah Shrine and KCCH Scottish Rite, through which he served as a charter board member of the SRFCLD.

He was a member of the Family Association Berneburg/Werneburg Genealogical Society in Germany, the Douglas County Historical Society and honorary member of the Southern Oregon Historical Society. He also enjoyed fishing, classical music, reading and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Allen Bruce, Oakridge, Brian Keith, Salem, and Brent Lee, Roseburg; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Arrangements: Wilson's Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg.

Alta Theora Culver

Alta Theora Culver, 89, formerly of Eagle Point, died Aug. 12, 1998, in Anaheim, Calif., where she was living. A graveside service was held Aug. 17 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, Calif. The Rev. H.P. Floyd of Medford and Central Point officiated.

She was born Alta Parker on Dec. 16, 1908, in Hutchinson, Kan.

On July 19, 1928, in Kinsley, Kan., she married Fred Culver, who died in 1996.

Early in their marriage the couple owned and operated furniture stores in Colorado, New Mexico and California. They traveled to Eugene where he worked in sawmills. Later they returned to Dodge City, then moved to Gallup, N.M. They moved to California in the mid-1930s and built two furniture stores in Salinas.

During World War II, they lived in Eagle Point while Mr. Culver was a carpenter at Camp White. They returned to Kansas in the 1940s, buying a farm there and later one in Arkansas.

After the war they returned to California, operating a motel in San Jose and later a furniture store in Tracy. In 1952 they moved from Modesto, Calif., to Los Angeles, where Mrs. Culver worked at the Sees Candy factory and later at the Voight rubber ball factory.

In the early 1960s, they moved to San Jose, during which time she attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Salinas. Later they moved to Lynwood, Calif., where she was active in the Olive Baptist Church.

The Culvers moved to Anaheim in 1968, where they lived for 27 years and managed an apartment complex until retiring.

Mrs. Culver attended the Temple Baptist Church in Medford, Pioneer Baptist Church in Norwalk, Calif., and Magnolia Baptist Church, which is now Victory Baptist Church in Anaheim. She also enjoyed singing and playing the piano.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Floyd, Central Point, and Eleanor Irene Brace, Anaheim; a son, Freddie Jr., Anaheim; a sister, Maude Innis, Dodge City; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou Culver; two sisters, Gracie Parker and Myrtle Barnes Hale; and a great-grandson.

Landis Knight Green

Landis Knight Green, 58, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Aug. 19, 1998) at his home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Ogden, Utah.

He was born June 15, 1940 in Blackfoot, Idaho.

On Dec. 22, 1984, in Frazier Valley, Colo., he married Heather Brewer, who survives. They moved to Oregon from Idaho in 1991.

Mr. Green was an author.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Selena Green, Ashland; his parents, Ronald and Verrall Green, Ogden; two brothers, Darrell, Las Vegas, Nev., and Reid, Springfield, Ohio; and a sister, Marilyn Wallin, Ogden.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Harold Dean Beavers

Harold Dean Beavers, 78, of Ashland, died Aug. 13, 1998 at the Linda Vista Care Center. No service is planned.

He was born June 8, 1920, in Montana, and raised in Spokane, Wash.

During World War II, he served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy.

After the war Mr. Beavers was a pilot for Ethiopian Airlines and later was a bush pilot in Alaska.

He returned to the navy and served during the Korean War.

Mr. Beavers attended the University of Washington and received a degree in English from Southern Oregon State College.

He was a high school teacher in the San Francisco Bay area before moving to Ashland in 1972.

Mr. Beavers enjoyed reading, hiking and writing poetry.

Raymond S. Weaver Jr.

Raymond S. Weaver Jr., 76, of Ashland, died Sunday (Aug. 16, 1998) at his home. A memorial gathering will be held later.

He was born May 9, 1922, in Cumberland, Md.

A musician and teacher most of his life, he started playing professionally at age 17. Mr. Weaver played solo oboe with the Houston Symphony Orchestra for more than 30 years and performed with most of the notable musicians of the time.

During World War II, he was an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Navy. He maintained an interest in airplanes and later became a pilot.

Mr. Weaver met and married his wife, Barbara, while both were students at the University of Southern California. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

The couple moved to Ashland in 1989, where Mr. Weaver played in the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra and taught the oboe.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Raymond S. III, Meadows, Texas, and Garth, Pflugerville, Texas; four daughters, Aileen Bouee and Nancy Weaver and Marian Weaver, all Bisbee, Ariz., and Colleen Weaver, Freeport, Texas; a sister, Jean Brown, Alameda, Calif.; seven grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

John Marvin St. Clair

The graveside service for John Marvin St. Clair will be held in Laona Cemetery, Laona, Wis.

Mr. St. Clair, 86, of Medford, died Monday (Aug. 17, 1998) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born March 10, 1912, Lily, Wis.

In 1938, in Walbena, Wis., he married Tessa Eastman, who died in 1980.

On Aug. 5, 1996, in Reno, he married Hazel E. Oppie, who survives.

Mr. St. Clair moved to Klamath Falls from Wisconsin in 1948 to become an engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked for the railroad for 29 years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Dorothy M. Parsons, Ashland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
