Donald G. Kilbourn

Donald G. Kilbourn, 80, of Central Point, died Monday (June 29, 1998) at his home. A private service was held. Interment was in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Prostate Research, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501, or Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 5, 1918, in Bertha, Minn.

On Nov. 25, 1942, in Atlanta, Ga., he married Lois Smith, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 39 years ago.

Mr. Kilbourn was a supervisor with United Airlines for more than 34 years, beginning his career in Walla Walla, Wash., in 1945. He transferred to Medford in 1959 and retired in 1980.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Kilbourn was a member of the Central Point Grange and a life member of Star Promenaders.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Liz Dye and Jan Coplen, both Medford; two sons, Donald Jr., Sunnyvale, Calif., and Jim, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Clayton, Bellevue, Wash.; five sisters, Bea Avery and Vivonne Donley, both College Place, Wash., Lavonne Smith, Walla Walla, and Lee Swanson and Bess Porterfield, both Seattle; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Agnes Marie Shive

Agnes Marie Shive, 99, of Ashland, died Monday (June 29, 1998) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. The graveside service will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kan. Pastor John Elliot of the Christian Church of Independence will officiate.

She was born Agnes Brewer on Sept. 29, 1898, in Coffeeville, Kan.

On May 25, 1918, in Independence, she married Henry Willis Shive, who died in 1985.

Mrs. Shive taught school for three years and was a substitute teacher for many years in the Independence School District.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1985 from Independence.

Survivors include a brother, Chester Brewer, Bartlesville, Okla.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A son, Edison Brewer Shive, preceded her in death.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Samuel S. Mason

The funeral for Samuel Saylathell Mason will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. Pastor Matt Sapp of the Sams Valley Community Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Dibble, Okla.

"Ride the Rails," a video about the Depression, will be shown one hour before the service and again afterward.

Mr. Mason, 81, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born June 1, 1917, in Washington, Okla. He attended school in Dibble, leaving school at age 13 to find work.

As a young man Mr. Mason traveled extensively throughout the nation, eventually settling in California.

On July 23, 1939, in Reno, he married Edna Mae Wilkey, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from Orangevale, Calif.

Mr. Mason was a member of the Carpenters Union for more than 50 years.

He retired to Oregon, where he once worked as a young man.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Madlin, Durham, Roseburg; a son, Jim, Citrus Heights, Calif.; three brothers, Herbert, Oklahoma City, Okla., Chris, Norman, Okla., and Van, Dumas, Texas; a sister, Goldie Fryman, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, including Bill, Chester, John, Dennis, Matt, and Leon; four sisters, Gertrude Alexander, Georgia Lapham, Debrah Mason and Bessie Mason.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today in Siskiyou Chapel, Medford.

Mervin Delbert Hart

Mervin Delbert Hart, 87, of Medford, died Sunday (June 28, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Redding Memorial Park, Redding, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6915 S.W. Macadam, Suite 130, Portland, OR 97219.

He was born Dec. 23, 1910, in Redding.

On April 3, 1937, in Oakland, Calif., he married Evelyn Faria, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 12 years ago from Grand Lake, Colo.

Mr. Hart was an operations technician for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for 25 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Mervin D. II, Woodbridge, Va.; a daughter, Berandine Burton, Lakewood, Colo.; and a brother, Harold, Redding.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Wesley Neuel Charley

The funeral for Wesley Neuel Charley will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, Medford. The Rev. Lee Gregory of the Neighborhood Church will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Charley, 71, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Climax, Jackson County.

On Dec. 27, 1986, in Reno, he married Carolyn Dizick, who survives.

Mr. Charley worked loading logs for several years at Olson-Lawyer, now Boise Cascade, and McGrew Brothers. Later he drove a log truck for RB Brown.

He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, hunting and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, Donald, Central Point, Frank, Medford, Rick, Lebanon, David DeMartin, Eagle Point, and John DeMartin, Sparks, Nev., and Joe DeMartin, both Reno; two daughters, Janet Matthews, Shady Cove, and Carolyn Konishi, Eugene; three brothers, Lincoln, Central Point, and Boyden and Clinton, both Medford; six sisters, Garrel Millard, Ruby Pruitt and Eunice Richardson, all Medford, Clarabelle Strom, Central Point, Opal Monia, White City, and Rosa Young, Talent; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Rogers Charley; a brother, David; a sister, Patty Charley; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Ruth Anne Burch

The memorial service for Ruth Anne Burch will be at 5:30 p.m. today in the Cornerstone Christian Church, 608 N. Bartlett St., Medford. Pastor Mark Delladio will officiate.

Mrs. Burch, 49, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Ruth Tomlin on Nov. 1, 1948, in Klamath Falls.

A licensed tax consultant, she operated Burch's Bookkeeping.

She was a member of the Oregon Association of Tax Consultants and enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing and reading.

Survivors include a son, Allen, Medford; her father, Arthur Tomlin, Medford; a sister, Mary Davis, Portland; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Tomlin; and a brother, David Tomlin.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Larry Sanford Hatch

The graveside service for Larry Sanford Hatch will be at 11 a.m. today in Woodville Cemetery, Rogue River. The Rev. John Braund will officiate.

Mr. Hatch, 64, of Gold Hill, died Friday (June 26, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Rogue River, a son of Linden K. and Freda Fay Hatch.

Mr. Hatch owned and operated Jewels Mining and Logging in Rogue River for 35 years.

He moved to Gold Hill in 1984.

He enjoyed gold panning, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald, Sunny Valley, and Larry Jr., Hudson, Mich.; a daughter, Deanna Pope, Sunny Valley; five sisters, Marilyn O'Kelly and Mary Ripley, both Rogue River, Margo Heath, Post Falls, Idaho, Martha Diehl, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mae Savold, Great Falls, Mont.; two brothers, Guy, Rogue River, and Richard, Belfair, Wash.; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a sister, Della Mae Powell.

Judie Azula Coffman

Maudie "Judie" Azula Coffman, 99, of Medford, died Sunday (June 28, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Aug. 25, 1898, in Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma Territory, now Garvin, Okla.

Miss Coffman worked for Southern Pacific Railroad prior to retiring in 1957.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1957 from Klamath Falls.

Miss Coffman was a volunteer and entertainer at the Medford Senior Center. She taught music and dancing and enjoyed playing piano and singing.

Survivors include four nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings.
