Naomi Ruth Wimer
June 4, 1914 - June 29, 2007

Naomi Ruth Wimer, age 93, a long-time Brownsville resident, died Friday morning at Avamere at Keizer Care Home. She was born on June 4, 1914 in Medford, Oregon, the daughter of A.L. and Odis Effie (Wise) Wright.

She came to Brownsville in 1918, and lived and farmed there most of her life. She married Raymond Wimer April 4, 1934. Raymond preceded her in death.

Naomi attended the Sweet Home Mennonite Church and Brownsville Assembly of God.

She is survived by her two sons, Dean Wimer of McMinnville, OR and Ken Wimer of Salem, OR; grandchildren, Wendy Lee Wimer, Curtis Bronson, and Carl Bronson.

One son, Wayne Wimer, and brother, Wallace Wright, preceded her in death.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm Friday at Brownsville First Baptist Church. Final Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Contributions can be made to the Crawfordsville Cemetery District and sent to the funeral chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Johnny C. Dobbs, Jr.
December 19, 1938 - July 2, 2007

Johnny C. Dobbs, Jr., age 68, of Foster died Monday, July 2, 2007. He was born December 19, 1938 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Johnny C. and Hazel I. (Jones) Dobbs. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Charles Gregor Martin
November 29, 1923 - July 4, 2007

Charles Gregor Martin Jr., 83, of Sweet Home, passed away on Wednesday at Albany General Hospital. He was born in Dickinson, North Dakota to Charles Gregor and Beatrice (Wanner) Martin.

Charles was a U.S. Army Medic during World War II in the Philippines. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He has lived in Dickinson, North Dakota, Seattle, Washington, and then in Sweet Home, Oregon since 1975.

Charles worked the ranch in Dickinson with his father and mother when he was young. He graduated from High School in Dickinson and attended college for one year before being drafted into the Army. After being discharged from the military, he worked construction jobs in Washington State. Later, he worked for the City of Seattle as a firefighter until he retired in 1975.

He enjoyed working with his hands. He built a family cabin at Maggie Lake from scrap materials he collected during his moonlighting in construction while being a firefighter. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was a good clam digger and oyster shucker and cooker on Hood Canal, Washington.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife Louella to Quartzsite, Arizona and “snow birding” with friends from Sweet Home. He and his wife Louella were founding board members and active volunteers and supporters of the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club. Most recently, he enjoyed cruising various locations with his close friend, Norma Cain.

Charles is survived by four children, Kathleen Brockway of La Connor, WA, Charlene Mason of Sweet Home, OR, Charles Martin Jr., of Federal Way, WA, and Craig Martin of Sweet Home, OR; stepchild, Mickey Pfab of Seattle, WA; sister, Bernice Olson of Indio, CA; six grandchildren, Adrian Brockway of Seattle, WA, Karyn Hartsook of Sweet Home, OR, Sean Martin of Sweet Home, OR, Nichole Martin of Sweet Home, OR, Michael Martin of Federal Way, WA, Cory Martin of Sweet Home, OR; two great-grandchildren, Bailee Hartsook and Ryker Hartsook, both of Sweet Home, OR.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Louella Martin; his brothers, Edgar and Don Martin; and sister, Mercedes Schmaltz.

Viewing will be 10am - 2pm Monday with the Funeral Service following at 3pm at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

Gregory A. Culver
October 26, 1916 - July 7, 2007

Gregory A. Culver, age 40, of Halsey died in a water related accident at Green Peter on Saturday July 7, 2007. He was born October 26, 1966 in Anchorage, Alaska to William R. and Ramona (Walburn) Culver. Sweet Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

John Jack Victor
July 1, 1930 - July 17, 2007

"Uncle" John Jack Victor, age 77, a long-time resident of Livingston, California, and more recently a resident of Sweet Home, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2007. He was born to Manuel and Mary Marie (Silva) Victor in Atwater, California.

John enjoyed a full life with his family. He worked on his own dairy farm and raised sweet potatoes and almonds in the Livingston area. He retired to the town of Sweet Home, which he came to love and think of as home in his last years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Wanda J. Victor, and by four loving children: Betty Etchison, George Victor, Patsy Maurer, and Tommy Victor; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, more adopted children, grandchildren, and more friends than could possibly be mentioned. He will be truly missed.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to noon Saturday, July 21, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements. A second memorial service will be held in California at a date and time to be announced later.

Clyde Dale Caviness
July 30, 2007

Clyde Dale Caviness, age 77, of Sweet Home passed away July 30, 2007. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

Rita I. Newport
October 4, 1913 - July 31, 2007

Rita I. Newport, age 93, of Sweet Home, passed away July 31, 2007.

Rita was born in Hagler, Nebraska to Harry and Mary Ann (Stastny) Fish. She was one of eight children. The family moved to Bromley Ranch, Kansas, then to Culbertson, Nebraska in 1917.

Rita married James Frank Newport on July 25, 1933 and they moved to Oregon in 1939. They then moved to Sweet Home in 1971.

Rita had several jobs, including working in the shipyards as a pipe welder, head cook at Glacier National Park, nanny, restaurant owner, and restaurant manager at Portland Airport before retiring to be a homemaker.

Rita enjoyed sewing making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She also loved baking and flower gardening.

Rita is survived by children Geraldine Newport-Bitz (daughter) of Mulino, Oregon, Larry L. Newport (son) of Lebanon, Oregon, Dorothy A. Newport-Lomax (daughter) of Gresham, Oregon, Linda R. Newport-Hyke (daughter) of Portland, Oregon, Daniel M. Newport (son) of Wrangle, Alaska, Gregory M. Newport (son) of Lebanon, Oregon. 38 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Newport, December 1987; son, James Paul Newport, January 1965; and daughter, Myrna Lee Newport-Gunnels, in 1999.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 18, at St. Helens Catholic Church. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Helen's Catholic Church, 815 5th Ave., Sweet Home, Oregon 97386.

Barbara Charlotte Parker
August 1, 2007

Barbara Charlotte Parker, age 70 of Sweet Home, passed away at her home August 1, 2007.

Barbara was born in Lebanon, but lived her whole life in Sweet Home. Her family homesteaded in Sweet Home.

Barbara worked as a beautician, a police reserve officer in the 80s, a mill worker at Duraflake in Albany, and for White's Electronics for many years. She was a hard worker wherever she worked. Barbara provided well for her family.

Barbara was an artist and photographer. She loved the ocean, deep sea fishing, and beach combing. Also, in her younger years she was a member of the American Veteran's Auxiliary and the Sweet Home Elks Club.

Barbara is survived by one daughter, Deborah Angel Green of Bullhead, Arizona' two grandchildren, Dennis Parker and Richard Parker of Sweet Home; two sisters, Beverly Schafer of Portland, Oregon and Virginia Strickler of Sweet Home; four great-grandchildren; and many family members and generations everywhere.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mabel H. Korn
April 13, 1916 - August 18, 2007

Mabel H. Korn, age 91, of Waldport, died Saturday. She was born to August and Matilda (Klinke) Korn in Epworth, North Dakota.

Mabel grew up in Malta, Montana and attended a country boarding school. She met her husband in Wisconsin, and they were married August 7, 1938 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. They moved to Sweet Home in 1949, where she lived until 1996, when she moved to Waldport to be with family.

Mabel loved to work on crafts and go to flea markets. She was a quiet, happy, sweet person and very giving. Mabel was also a member of Harley Davidson Rhinelander Cycle Club and enjoyed cross country bike rides in her youth.

Mabel is survived by son, Dean, and his wife, Janice, of Waldport; brother, Harold, and his wife, Ethel Schomoeckel, of Malta, Montana; a sister, Verna Hillier, of Bolder, Montana; grandchildren, Michelina of Salem, Gregory of Sweet Home, and Daniel of Waldport; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Korn, and sister, Myrtle Horan.

Private family services are scheduled. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
