Michael A. Housen, Sr.
August 31, 1949 - January 22, 2008

Michael Allen Housen, Sr., age 58, of Sweet Home, passed away Tuesday. He was born in Lebanon, Oregon to Adrian and Veetta Housen.

Michael was raised in Lebanon and attended schools there. He married Elizabeth Brady July 6, 1981 in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Sweet Home in 1987.

He was a roof technician for 35 years. He worked for his brother, Ron, at East Linn Roofing as his foreman.

Michael loved truffle digging, mushroom picking, fishing, horseshoes, Casinos, and sports.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Sweet Home; sons: Michael Housen Jr., and Richard Housen, both of Salem, and Todd Brady of Lebanon; daughter, Traci Petermen, of Sweet Home; brothers: Ronald, Bruce, David, and Steve of Sweet Home, and Larry Dean of Albany; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 9, at Crawfordsville Church. A memorial dinner at the Sweet Home Veterans Club will follow the service.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Eldon L. Clayton
April 11, 1930 - January 19, 2008

Eldon L. Clayton, age 77, passed away Saturday. He was born in Trent, Oregon to Loyd and Edna Clayton.

He went to grade school in LaComb, Salt Lake, and then later in Lebanon.

Eldon moved to West Scio and went to work in a sawmill. He married Donna Magarrell in 1949 in Scio. They lived in Shelburn where built a house. They had a son, Ramon, and moved to Blodgett in 1960, where he logged with his father. In 1969 they had another son, Brett Clayton. He was then driving his own log truck. Eldon divorced after 54 years in 2003. He moved to Tanget, and then later to Sweet Home, where he passed away.

He was a past Grand at Scio Oddfellows Lodge. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and riding snow mobiles and driving antique cars.

Eldon is survived by his son, Brett Clayton, of Sweet Home; brother, Ronald Clayton, of Lebanon; one sister, Joyce Spencer, of Grants Pass; and aunt and uncle, Jessie and Glenn Clayton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ramon Loyd, in 1963.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Maxine D. Casey
June 18, 1928 - January 19, 2008

Maxine Dorothy Casey, age 79, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday. She was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Gustoff and Julia (Peterson) Romey.

She moved to El Monte, California with her family at 16 years old. They later settled in Lakewood, California. She met Edward Silva during High School, and they married after High School. They had one daughter, Jewell. Edward worked as a dairyman.

Maxine became a widow at a young age, raising her daughter. Maxine and Jewell moved many times over the next many years, eventually choosing to live in California most of her life. Maxine married Frank Casey later in life. Their time together brought them to Sweet Home. Frank preceded her in death in 1998.

Maxine loved life. Her adventurous spirit led to many travels, motorcycle rides, and enjoying the outdoors.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Jewell Dobernecker, and her husband, Dale, of La Habra, California; brothers, Oliver Romey and Donald Romey; sister, Margaret Frailey; and grandchild, Drew Dobernecker.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Silva, in 1947; second husband, Frank Casey, in 1998; brothers, Robert Romey, Buster Romey, and Leon Romey; and sister, Mildred Riccetelli.

A service will be held at a later date in California.

Paul Miller, age 80, died on Thursday, January 17, 2008. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Terry E. Bentley
December 20, 1949 - January 11, 2008

Terry E. Bentley, age 58, of Sweet Home passed away Friday. He was born in Sweet Home at Langmack Hospital. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1967 and lived in Sweet Home his entire life.

Terry and Gina were married May 15, 1993. Terry started working at Foster Plywood, then went to Titus Trucking for a short time as a mechanic. He also worked as a mechanic at Sid Walter’s Repair. Then went to May’s Arco in Sweet Home. He moved on to work for school District #55 as the Transportation Superintendent from 1980 to 1992. He also ran his own business, Bentley’s Automotive, for the past 30 years.

Terry started drag Racing in 1966. Then in 1972 switched to Late Model Dirt Track Racing, which he did through out the Northwest for over 35 years. Racing was his passion. Then he retired back to Drag Racing part time because he couldn’t get racing completely out of his system.

The things that Terry and Gina enjoyed most in the last few years was spending time with their family camping at the coast and gambling at casinos.

Terry is survived by his wife, Gina Bentley, of Sweet Home; son, Anthony Bentley, of Lebanon; stepson, Jason Tenbusch, of Albany; stepdaughter, Jenna Parker, of Albany; five grandchildren: Blake, Madison, Richelle, Ryleigh and Rebecca; stepfather, Hal Hennick, of Sweet Home; brothers and sisters: Donald Bentley of LasVegas, Patty Bentley of Lebanon, Carol Bagley of Lebanon, Vicky Johnson of Bend and Dean Bentley of Albany; four step brothers and step sisters: Diane Donald of Port Orchard, Washington, Kevin Hennick of Bothell, Washington, Ron Hennick of Sweet Home, and Debi Christensen of Bothell, Washington.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Isabelle Hennick.

Viewing will be held 4:00-7:00 pm Monday, January 14th, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 15th, at Community Chapel in Sweet Home. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Carla M. Stewart
June 30, 1948 - January 10, 2008

Carla M. Stewart, age 59, of Sweet Home, passed away Thursday. She was born in Sacramento, California to John D. and Billie M. (Vance) Gaston.

Carla came to Sweet Home in 2002 from Sacramento, California. She attended Holly Church. She loved to collect giraffes.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Stewart; sisters, Ellen Stone and Della Ramsey; cat, Big Boy; and dog, Baby.

Carla was preceded in death by her son, Shayne Garrison; two sisters, Sharon White and Elizabeth Cameron; brother, Aaron Smith; and best friend, Roudy.

Rose P. Hamn
October 13, 1938 - January 3, 2008

Rose P. Hamn, age 69, of Sweet Home, passed away Thursday. She was born in Rangeley, Maine to Albert and Lilian (Berry) Belisle.

Rose came to Oregon in 1968, eventually moving to Sweet Home in 2002. Rose was a Baptist. She really enjoyed singing and playing piano.

Rose is survived by her husband, Robert O. Hamn; children, Mark Hamn of Sweet Home, Llora Lash of Toledo, and Mathew J. Hamn of Sweet Home; ten grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lilian; daughter, Lisa Carlson; and brothers, Mike and Frank.

Rodney D. Shipp
October 11, 1953 - March 18, 2008

Rodney Dale Shipp, age 54, of Sweet Home passed away Tuesday at his home. He was born in Sweet Home to Hubert and Virla (Fagan) Shipp.

Rodney lived in Sweet Home for most of his life and moved to Madras in 1997, where he joined the Catholic Church. In 1999 he moved to Alaska, returning to Sweet Home in 2007.

Rodney was known for catching fish where others couldn’t. He loved fishing, hunting, Harley Davidson motorcycles and billiards. He served in the Army when he was younger.

He is survived by his children, Nikki Mundt and Amy Sapp of Sweet Home, and Natalie Shipp, Adam Shipp, and Gabriel Shipp of Ketchikan, Alaska; parents, Hubert and Virla Shipp of Sweet Home; brothers, Dan Shipp, Sam Shipp, and Ken Shipp of Sweet Home; sister, Sandra Wright of Sweet Home; and five grandchildren.

Rodney was preceded in death by brother, Joe Shipp, who passed away June 8, 2002.

There will be a closed casket gathering 11:00 a.m., to noon on Friday, March 21, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday at Gilliland Cemetery. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel handled arrangements
