Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Eva (Cavazos) Thibedeau

Eva (Cavazos) Thibedeau, 83 of Pleasant Mount and formerly of Fort Worth, TX entered into eternal rest on June 23, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years Richard D. Thibedeau. She was born February 25, 1925 in Sharryland, TX. Eva was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and beloved aunt. She spent most of her life as a caretaker, first as a governess to the late Texas State Senator Lloyd Bentsen, then to her numerous nieces and nephews and finally to her own family.

She enjoyed the simple things in life like zinnias in her garden, traveling with her husband, playing Bingo or taking a drive through Fort Worth Nature Center. In Fort Worth, she was a 40 year member and lector at All Saints Church and later a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Also surviving is her daughter Cindy Maritato and husband Gerry of Honesdale; a brother Ben Cavazos and wife Rita of Mission, TX; a sister Bettye Welsh and husband Gene of Ceres, CA; grandchildren Brandon of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Michael, Adriana, Nicholas and Evette Maritato all at home; a great grandson Caden Michael Maritato; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her brother Joe and sister Virginia.

A Mass of Christian Burial for family and friends will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no public visiting hours. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial Contributions can be made to  Father Joji Allam's Orphanage in India, c/o St. John the Evangelist Parish, 414 Church St. Honesdale, PA 18431. All checks can be made to Fr. Joji Allam.

Ruth Elizabeth Branning

Ruth Elizabeth Branning, 95 of Lockhart, TX and formerly of Honesdale died March 29, 2008 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Caldwell, TX.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Frank Racht and second husband Clark Branning. Born July 8, 1912 in Clarks Green, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Hoadley Hicks.

She worked as a seamstress in a factory before retiring. She is survived by her daughter Eloris Burdik and husband Clayton of Kyle, TX; sons Allan Racht and wife Ruth Ann and Gary Racht and wife Roseann all of Honesdale; a brother Robert Hicks of Yardley, PA; 4 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many family and friends.

A graveside service will be held July 2, 2008 at St. Mary?s Cemetery in Honesdale at 11 AM. Local arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Anna V. Dodge

Anna V. Dodge, 90 of Honesdale died peacefully Saturday June 21, 2008 at home with her family at her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Miszler Dodge who died April 3, 2002. The couple married Aug. 20, 1942. Born April 5, 1918 in Honesdale, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the late James and Anna Neary Marshall family. She attended Honesdale Catholic School and later was a housewife and mother. Anna was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.

Anna was a kind and friendly person who always had a smile in spite of how she was feeling. Surviving are her sons William and wife Yong Chu of Alexandria, VA and Robert Dodge and Roz Novak of Aldenville, PA;  daughters Gail Frisbie of Honesdale and Margaret Dearing and husband Robert of Cary, IL; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 nephews and a niece. Also preceding her in death is her granddaughter Jennifer Dodge; brothers James, Stanley and Paul and sisters Marjorie Marshall, Mary Rowles and Peggy Swingle.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.

Interment of cremated remains will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the services from 9:30 to service time in church.

Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 100 4th St. Honesdale, PA 18431 or to the donors favorite cancer research charity.

Daniel L. Kowalczyk Sr

Daniel L. Kowalczyk Sr., 89 of North Tonawanda, NY and formerly of Honesdale, died Sunday June 15, 2008 at DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility after a lengthy illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna A. Yourgovsky on Nov. 17, 2001. The couple married July 1, 1950.

Born July 14, 1918 in Scranton he was the son of the late Stanley and Stella Sczymanski
Kowalczyk. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII and a reserve during the Korean War.

He was an employee of General Motors in North Tonawanda for over 30 years before
retiring and was a member of U.A.W. Local #774. An avid golfer, Daniel enjoyed playing
at Deerwood Golf Course in North Tonawanda and was a member of the Marine Corps Conrad Kania Detachment.

Surviving is his  daughters Patricia and husband Walter Krupski of Ridgway, PA and Barbara
Tufts and husband Karl of Norcross, GA ; sons Daniel and wife Gay and Donald Kowalczyk
both of North Tonawanda; a brothers Stanley and wife Janice and Louis and wife Marian
and Michael all of Cherry Ridge, Frank of Honesdale; sisters Mary McDonald and husband
Paul of Honesdale and Angie Fox and husband Joseph of Waymart; sister in law Florence
Kowalczyk of Cherry Ridge; grandchildren Michael Kowalczyk and wife Gretchen and Kelly
and Chris Tufts; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Alfred, Joseph, and John and a sister Dorothy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in
Honesdale.

Entombment will follow in mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Finch Hill.

Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale Thursday from 4-7PM.

Carl "Butch" Edward Dunn

Carl "Butch" Edward Dunn , 82 a resident of Wayne Woodlands Manor died peacefully June 11, 2008 surrounded by his family.

Born July 15, 1925 in Seelyville, he was the son of the late Lewis and Laura Hooey Dunn. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. He later worked for Con-Rail.

Carl enjoyed coon hunting and horse training and racing. His favorite saying was "Here comes the train."

He is survived by his daughter Marlene Cook of Honesdale, Darlene Tuttle of Beach Lake and Charlene Dunn and significant other Donald Whitmore of Beach Lake; a brother Russell and wife Grace; sister in laws Judy Dunn and Edna Dunn; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his ex-wife Delores Bass Dunn; brothers Robert and Alfred; a great grandchild Dillan.

As per his request cremation will be at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.

Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Merle E. Quick Hunt

Merle E. Quick Hunt, 91 of Honesdale entered into the presence of her Savior on June 8, 2008.

Her husband of 45 years, Elmer J. Hunt Sr. predeceased her on April 4, 1980. She was born on Aug. 31, 1916, daughter of the late Wesley L. and E. Mabel (Fisher) Quick of Hiawatha, Scott Twp.

After attending elementary school in Hiawatha and Pleasant Valley, she attended Preston High School, graduating in 1934. On Sept. 1, 1934, she married her high school sweetheart, Elmer J. Hunt Sr., a teacher, and they lived in Starlight. After his mother's death, they purchased the Pitcher-Hunt Farm and Mr. Hunt gave up teaching so they could devote their time to farming. Mrs. Hunt worked hard alongside her husband and with their children and hired help, the old farm turned into a beautiful place.

In time, they had a herd of registered Jersey cattle and their children earned many ribbons through the 4-H program with their prized animals. The Hunts were active members of the Buckingham Baptist Church in Starlight, where Mrs. Hunt taught Sunday school and served as assistant organist, clerk, assistant treasurer and chairwoman for the ladies fellowship group, and transported youth groups to youth rallies in Wayne and Susquehanna counties.

She became a member of the Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle Church in 1973 and served 13 years as treasurer, assistant treasurer of the ladies fellowship group and deaconess. "service."

She is survived by her seven children, Alice Conbeer of Honesdale; Paul Hunt of Lake Como; Lois Fitze of Creamton; Martha Peck and her husband Ron of Pleasant Mount; Ramona Howell and her husband Jerry of Florida; Evelyn Thomas and her husband Larry of New Milford; and E. John Hunt and his wife Sally of Equinunk; 23 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Della Quick and Grace Ballus; two brothers, Clarence Quick and Leno Quick; twin granddaughters Laura and Linda Thomas; a great granddaughter, Megan Thomas; a grandson Lee Fitze; a daughter in law Lillian Wildenstein Hunt; two son in laws, Carl Conbeer and Clarence Fitze; and a step great grandson George McKean.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at the Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle Church, 455 Grove St., Honesdale, with Dr. D. Paul Williamson, pastor, officiating.

Friends may visit at the church on Thursday evening from 6-8 and on Friday 9:30 to service time.

Interment will follown in Riverside Cemetery in Hancock, NY. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Anne C. Horvath

Anne C. Horvath, 68 of Honesdale, died unexpectedly Tuesday May 27,
2008 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.

Born September 29, 1939 in Jersey City, NJ she was the daughter of the
late William E. and Anne C. Garrahy Horvath. Anne was retired from
Long Island Railroad where she was a secretary and payroll clerk.

An active woman, Anne participated in the Master Gardeners Program of
the Penn State Cooperative Extension, the NEPA Audubon Society,
volunteered at the Honesdale Public Library and at Habitat for
Humanity. Anne was a faithful friend of Bill W.. She enjoyed all
outdoor activities, hiking, gardening and reading.

Surviving is her son Peter Michael Schliessman of Honesdale, cousins
and many friends; her dogs Sam and Bau and her cat Mully.

Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on
Saturday from 10 to 1. As per her request, cremation will follow. A
memorial service will be held at a later date.

1406 Main St. Honesdale or The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax
Dr., Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.

James Edward Pellew

James Edward Pellew, 64 of Creamton and formerly of Middletown, NY
died May 19, 2008 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 39
years, the former Marlene Schoonmaker.

Born January 4, 1944 in Middletown, NY he was the son of James E.
Pellew of Sparrowbush, NY and the late Hazel Mann Pellew. He was a
mason and worked throughout Rockland County in New York before taking
ill. Jim was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing guitar and especially
loved spending time with his family.

Also surviving is his son Matthew Pellew at home and fiancee Christine
Lord;  daughters Veronica Veign and husband Gary of Goshen, NY, Lisa
Fox of Mt. Hope, NY, Jamie Pellew of Honesdale and Sheila Ciufo of
Mahoopany, PA; a brother Gene Pellew of OR; sisters Connie Miller, of
Upstate, NY; Joyce Yuroshek of Sparrowbush, NY and Margie Neumeister
of OH; 9 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Hessling Funeral Home, 428
Main St. Honesdale at 7:30 PM. Friends may visit Wednesday 2-4 and 6
until service time. As per his request, cremation will follow.

E. Lorraine Collins Ruddy

E. Lorraine Collins Ruddy, 79 of Honesdale, died May 7, 2008 at Wayne
Woodlands Manor. She is survived by her husband Robert F. Ruddy. She
was preceded in death by her first husband Earl A. Collins.

Born February 25, 1929 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late
Joseph James and Blanche Ruth Canfield Crocker. She was a graduate of
Honesdale High School and later was a seamstress at Laura Jane
Clothing. A loving housewife and mother, she enjoyed crafting,
needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting. She was a member of the
Bethany United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are her sons Jim and wife Loretta Collins of
Carbondale, Gerald Morcom of Taylor, Jack Collins and wife Sheila of
Prompton, Jeffrey Ruddy and wife Maria of Bovard, PA; daughter Suzanne
Edwards of Archbald; step-daughter Rebecca Kotchessa of Moscow; a
brother Lee Crocker of OH; sisters Dolores McKean, CA and Charlene
Smith of Nazareth, PA; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her great granddaughter Joie Collins and
brothers Jerry, Ron, Jack, and Richard Crocker.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem
Crematory. Funeral services will be Monday at the Hessling Funeral
Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11 AM. The family will receive
friends on Monday from 9:30 to service time. Interment will be in
Bethany Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Prompton Fire Co. 638
Prompton Rd. Prompton, PA 18456 or the Bethany United Methodist Church
3 Court St. Bethany, PA 18431.

Dorothy I. (Stanton) Henderson

Dorothy I. (Stanton) Henderson, 87 of Honesdale, died May 6, 2008 at
Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband
Norman R. Henderson who died Sept. 10, 1976.

Born Sept. 22, 1920 at the family home in Pine Mill, she was the
daughter of the late Edward and Beatrice Craven Stanton. She attended
Pine Mill School and later graduated from Honesdale High School. A
housewife and mother, Dorothy also worked at Pecks Nursing Home in
Honesdale as a Nurses Aid. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters
and going to lunch with them. She also enjoyed collecting frogs.
Dorothy was a member at the Central United Methodist Church in
Honesdale.

Surviving are her sons Thomas Holbert of Rockledge, FL, John Henderson
and wife Connie of Damascus, and Richard Henderson and wife Marilyn
of Honesdale;  daughters Jade Swartwood and husband Daryl of Bloomsburg
and Jill Reymen and husband Richard of Jacksonville Beach, FL;
daughter-in-law Darlene Holbert of Calloway, FL; sisters Ada
Levanowitz of Blossburg, PA, Hilda Lee of Hop Bottom, PA and Hazel
Williams of Honesdale; sister-in-law Gladys Stanton of Smyrna Beach,
FL; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great
grandchildren; and her caregiver Robin Miszler.

She was preceded in death  daughters Judith Holbert and Brenda
McClosky; a son Burton Holbert; daughter in law Christine Holbert;
granddaughter Andrea Swartwood; brothers Walter, Thomas, Wilson and
Gerald Stanton and sisters Eleanor Schuman, Esther Johnson and Louise
Van Orden.

Funeral Services will be Saturday at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main
St. Honesdale at 10 AM. Interment will follow in East Dyberry
Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and
6-8.

Sally Amelia Williams
Sally Amelia Williams, 72 of Hawley and formerly of Chester, NY died
May 3, 2008 surrounded by her family at Ellen Memorial Health Care
Center in Honesdale after a courageous battle with cancer. She is
survived by her husband of 55 years, Leroy A. Williams Jr.. The
couple married Aug. 30, 1952 in Nyack, NY.

Born Dec. 9, 1935 in Spring Valley, NY she was the daughter of the
late Frans Edward and Ida Maria Ericson Grahn. She was a graduate of
Spring Valley High School. Sally loved to knit and donating her time
and valuables.

Also surviving are her sons Roger Williams and wife Denise of Hawley
and Leroy Williams III and wife Dawn of Wallkill, NY; a daughter Wendy
Thomas of Montague, NJ; a brother Thure Grahn of Ellenville, NY; a
sister Anita Carlson of New Hampton, NY; grandchildren Shannon, Roy,
Michael, Danielle, Joshua, Sean, Katelyn, Jordan, and Cory; great
granddaughter Amanda and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Debra Weaver; brothers
William, Roger, Howard, and Wally Grahn and a sister Linea Prastka.

As per her request cremation was held at Maple Hill Crematory and
private funeral services will be held at the families convenience.
Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donors favorite hospice program.
