Helen E. Franklin
Helen E. Franklin, 91 of Honesdale, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Franklin, August, 31, 2001. The couple married June 12, 1946. Born May 23, 1920 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Elizabeth Knorr Daniels. Helen loved being a homemaker, taking care of the house and yard. Surviving are her sisters Eleanor and Lois and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Robert and sisters Ruth and Dorothy. As per her request, private interment was in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA.

Donald G. Rodger
Donald G. Rodger, 74 of Equinunk and formerly of Levittown, PA died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Marlene D. Harrison. The couple married June 17, 1961. Born April 30, 1937 in Toronto, Canada, he was the son of the late Robert Ramsay and Norma Evelynne Carr Rodger. Donald retired from Aerial Survey in Bensalem, PA where he was a photogrammatrist. He was an avid reader, enjoyed making model planes and watching NASCAR. He was the loving  Father of Karen Kappler and husband Kevin of Uniondale, PA, Michael Rodger and wife Annette of Port Orange, FL, Kathy Duobvich and fiancée David Scott of York, PA, Kristine Panello and husband Richard of Newtown, PA, Kimberly Nadeau and husband Scott of Panama City, FL, David Rodger of North Carolina; he was the brother to Lorna Wright and husband David of Toronto, Canada, uncle to 4 nieces and nephews in Canada. He will be sadly missed by his 9 grandchildren Kevin, Kerri, Kyle, Sandra, Brandyn, Kelly, Zachary, Victoria and Daulton. Don's family was proud that he was able to donate his cornea's to give someone the gift of sight. As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale on Thursday at 11 AM with the Rev'd Edward K. Erb, rector officiating. Zachary Michael Romano, Sr.
Zachary Michael Romano, Sr., of Hawley, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 3, 2011 at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was 56 years old. His wife is Dianne Young Romano. They would have celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary in September. Zachary is also survived by his son Zachary Jr. and daughter Julie Rose. He was a wonderful husband and devoted  Father. Born in Newark, NJ, Zachary was the son of Anthony and the late Teresa Sarnowski Romano. He will be sorely missed by his  Father Anthony of Lawrenceville, NJ and surviving siblings: sister Anne Vergara and her husband Norman of Shohola, PA, sister Nancy Gabriell of Lawrenceville, NJ, brother Jim and wife Inge of South Boston, VA, sister Maryrose Balick and husband Howard of Hamburg, NJ, and sister-in-law Judie Romano of Wilmington, DE, wife of Zachary's brother Tony who preceded him in death. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Eleanor Young of Honesdale, PA and his brothers-in-law Jim and wife Valarie of Garrison, NY and Bob and wife Suzanne of Madison, NJ. Zachary will also be missed by his several nieces and nephews, including his godson, Anton Romano, and his wife Kathy, Kennett Square, PA. Zac was a sculptor for 35 years and worked primarily in ceramics, fine silver, and pewter. He was in the process of developing a line of pewter heraldic miniature knights. In addition, Zachary graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Scranton in 1993 with a B.S. degree in Secondary Education, Social Studies. He was a substitute teacher in several area school districts for six years. Zachary enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, gardening, cooking, and playing the guitar. His sense of humor, intelligence, generosity, and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 1 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, Honesdale with Fr. Edward K. Erb, Rector, officiating. Interment will follow in Grace Episcopal Cemetery in Honesdale. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 10 to 12.

Jean Hoerter
Jean Hoerter, 82 of Woodloch Springs, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William H. Hoerter. She is also survived by her sons William, Robert, Jeffrey and Scott. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale at 10 AM. As per her request, cremation will follow. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Beverly A. Bunting
Beverly A. Bunting, 81 of Honesdale, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. Born June 29, 1930 in Beach Lake, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Louise Bailey Perry. Beverly retired from Moore Business Forms in Honesdale where she was a stocking clerk. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church. Beverly was a wonderful Nana and loved being with her grandchildren. Surviving is her son Dennis Bunting and wife Patti of Phoenix, AZ; her  daughters Debbie Martin and husband Gary and Diane Martin and husband Robert all of Honesdale; her longtime companion Bill Young of Honesdale; a brother Russell Perry of Arkansas; sisters Carol Sweitzer of Montana and Dawn Kielar of Waymart; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Pam Scarlata; her great grandson Brayden Altemier; a brother Bobby Perry and sisters Vivian Sheehan and June Rogan. As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at St. Mary's Cemetery in Honesdale at noon. Elizabeth C. Van Dyk
Elizabeth C. Van Dyk, 96, of Honesdale passed away Tuesday morning at her home. She was proceeded in death by her husband, the late John B Van Dyk, who passed away June 15,2005. The couple married January 25,1943. Born in West New York, NJ., She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Jaeger Roche. Elizabeth was a memeber of St. Johns Parish, and the Alter and Rosary, the Life Court at St. Martin, Catholic  daughters of the America. She was a former member of the Beech Grove Grange. Elizabeth was an avid Yankee Fan. She is survived by a daughter Lynn Hedgelon of Honesdale,PA, with whom she resided, a brother, Frank Roche of Citrus Heights, CA, a sister, Eleanor Travis of Calverton,NY, grandchildren, Decan Hedgelon, McKenzie Quick and husband Lynn, Marcie Taylor and husband Troy, two great-grandchildren, Emma Taylor and Shiloh Ann Quick. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Arthur, James, and John, two sisters: Dorothy Eddy and Marie Gilmore-Saeger. As per her request cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald, PA. A graveside service will be held at St Marys Cemetery on Friday, July 22,2011 at 10:00am by  Father Langan. Carl Joseph Fritz
Carl Joseph Fritz of Honesdale, a partner with Fritz brothers Well Drilling and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was 64. Son of the late George F. and Mildred I. Herrman Fritz, he was born December 3, 1946 in Honesdale. He attended Honesdale Catholic School and later joined the Pennsylvania National Guard. Carl was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. He was a member of Welcome Lake Rod and Gun Club, the Honesdale Golf Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1858 and their Home Association, a Director of the Wayne County Fair and past president of the PA Water Well Association. Carl, known as "Big D" to family and friends, enjoyed spending his winters in Bradenton, FL with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed shooting sporting clays. Carl loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. He is survived by his sons who he referred to as his 4 "Angels", Tony Fritz and fiancée Jamie Mousley, Matthew Fritz and wife Diana, Stephen Fritz and Jonathan Fritz and wife Donna all of Honesdale; his loving and devoted partner Carolyn Siepiela of Honesdale; his brothers Charles and George (Bucky) Fritz; sisters Miriam Frisch, Janet Michael, Carol McGinnis, Susan Ridd, Connie Carmody and Karen Johnson; his former wife and lifelong friend Nancy Fritz; grandchildren Miranda, Evan, Azlyn, Bennett, Lucas and Sawyer; his extended family Alyson Burkavage, Mari DeNoie and husband Bayard, Eric Siepiela and wife Christina and their children Alexis and Josh Burkavage and Jocelyn and Nicholas DeNoie; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Michael and Gerald Fritz and sisters JoAnn Nell and Barbara Fritz. As per his request, cremation will be held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 1, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale at 10:30 AM with Rev. Martin Boylan officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Carl's life at Fritz brothers Inc. at Route 191 and Spinner Rd. on Monday from 5 to 9 where everyone is encouraged to share their stories of Carl. Robert Marshall Bunting Sr.
Robert Marshall Bunting Sr., 57 of Honesdale, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, following an illness. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Mary B. Hook. The couple married on May 11, 1974 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Born February 5, 1954 in Honesdale, he is the son of Betty Ryan Bunting of Cherry Ridge and the late Gerald R. Bunting who died April 28, 1999. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School and later owned and operated Bunting's Dairy Farm in Cherry Ridge where he worked for 43 years. He also owned and operated Bunting's Nursery on the farm. Bob was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. He loved his family and spending time with them. Bob will be remembered as a devoted farmer and a person who was always there to help someone in need. Also surviving are his sons Robert M. Bunting Jr. and girlfriend Amy D. Gilson of Honesdale and Brian C. Bunting of Brooklyn, NY; his brother Gerald W. Bunting and wife Marcie of Honesdale; his sister Mary Kay Burkavage of Bethany; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his infant niece. A blessing service will be held at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Honesdale. Mary Murphy
Mary Murphy, 93, a resident at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in Lake Ariel, on Thursday, May 12, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen J. Murphy in 1973. The couple married September 29, 1940. Born August 21, 1917, in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, Ireland, she was the oldest of eight children of the late Michael and Mary Morrissey Banks. After moving to New York, she worked at Ebingers Baking Co. in Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Workers Union in New York City. She retired after 25 years and she and her husband moved to Port Richey, FL. Mary loved living in Florida. She became active in the San Clemente Civic Association where she ran the Bingo Games, and enjoyed going to casinos to play the slots. In Honesdale, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish. Mary so loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Denise Ellis and husband Robert of Honesdale; sons Stephen Murphy and wife Eleanor of Easton, MD, and Michael Murphy of Red Bank, NJ; a brother John "Jackie" Banks and wife Ann; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Nora Burbage, Katherine Healy, Martin, Patrick, Michael and Francis Banks; and her daughter-in-law Maureen Murphy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale on Monday at 10 AM. Interment will be at a later date in Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens in New Port Richey, FL. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 3 to 6.

Michael Anton Mihelic
Michael Anton Mihelic, 29 of Honesdale, died unexpectedly Friday, May 13, 2011 at his home. Born September 21, 1981 in Queens, NY he is the son of Walter and Barbara Quintin Mihelic of Honesdale and formerly of Brooklyn, NY. He was a graduate of Christ the King High School in Queens. He enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing, riding his four wheeler. He was loved by his family and friends. Also surviving is his sister, Karen Nowaski of Honesdale, a niece, Brianna, two nephews, Michael and Evan, a great- niece, Keirra, and his feline, "Billy Cat" Cremation will be held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald. The family will recieve friends at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. Wednesday May 18,2011 from 2 to 5. A Blessing service will be held at 4:30.

John Joseph McKenna III
John Joseph McKenna III, 35 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 7 years, the former Andrea Elizabeth Hazen. The couple married November 15, 2003 in Beach Lake. Born August 9, 1975 in Denville, NJ he is the son of John J. McKenna Jr. and Vickie Merrill McKenna of Gouldsboro. He was a graduate of Delaware Valley High School. John loved watching sports, especially wrestling every Monday night. He also enjoyed playing video games. John loved his two children and looked forward to teaching his daughter how to fish. He loved spending time with his family and spending time with his nephews. Also surviving is his daughter Kathryn and his son Shane both at home; his sister Rebecca VanValkenburg and husband Jason of Lakeville; his paternal grandfather John J. McKenna of Milanville; his mother-in-law Melissa Hazen of North Wales, PA; and 3 nephews. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Saturday from 9 to 11 when a Blessing service will be held. Cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald. Paul Hoffman
Paul Hoffman, 81 of Townsend, DE and formerly of Honesdale, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Joyce A. Reiman. The couple married October 24, 1964. Born in New York, NY he was the son of the late Paul and Eliza Hofmann Hoffman, who immigrated to America from Germany. When he lived in Honesdale, he and his wife were members of St. John the Evangelist Parish. Paul was a milk hauler and lumberman for many years before joining S. J. Bailey & Son. He retired in 1995 with 25 + years of service. Also surviving is his son Paul E. Hoffman and wife Kristen and their son Kevin all of Pittsburgh; his daughter Elayne J. Lee and her husband Carl and their  daughters Kasey and Bridget and a son Nathaniel all of Townsend, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Amy Alice Coleman
Amy Alice Coleman, 49 of Honesdale, passed away peacefully Friday, May 27, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband Gerald C. Coleman. The couple married in 1983. Born Nov. 6, 1961 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Myrtle Holbert Gillow. Amy graduated from Honesdale High School in 1979 and attended Empire Beauty School. She spent most of her working life caring for sick and the elderly. She seemed to have a true passion for caring for others. Amy enjoyed playing softball, swimming, and was a member of the women's pool league for 18 years. Being a devoted mother and being free spirited, she loved spending good times with her family and friends. Also surviving are her sons Christopher Coleman of Honesdale and Joshua Coleman at home; her sisters Susan Marold and husband Richard and Nancy Robinson all of Honesdale; her brother Donald Gillow and wife Carolyn of Carbondale, Colorado; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Cremation will be held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 6:30 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 with Rev. Mary Bryant officiating.

Willis E. Gorr
Willis E. Gorr, 79 of Pleasant Mount and formerly of McKeesport, PA died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, the former Viola Freund. The couple married June 28, 2005. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joann Jones Gorr. Born May 12, 1932 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Louis and Helen Willis Gorr. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Willis retired from Jones Brewing Co. where he was Vice President. Willis was active in the McKeesport area community where he was a 50 year member of the Duquesne/McKeesport Lodge 731 Free and Accepted Masons, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Al-O-Mon 138, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, where he was a past trustee and was active in its Clown Unit over 20 years. He was a member of the Syria Shrine, Cheswick and Caravan #4 of McKeesport where he was a life member and past president. He was a 46 year member of the White Oak American Legion. Willis was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of McKeesport. Willis enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was a member of the NRA. Also surviving are his step-children Debra Patten and husband Harry of Forest City;William Freund and wife Diane of Niceville, FL; a brother Gordon Gorr and wife Peg of Glassport, PA; a sister Evelyn Broadwell of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David J. Gorr and a sister and brother-in-law Lavina and Al Markovich. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale today from 6 to 8 and Wednesday 4 to 8 at Strifflers of White Oak, Cremation and Mortuary Service, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131. Patricia L. Haines
Patricia L. Haines, 65 of Scranton, died June 11, 2011 at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Haines Sr. who died in 2006. Born September 23, 1945 in Sussex, NJ she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Marion Geiger Crawn. Pat was a waitress at the Wooden Spoon in Greentown and later was a maid at Montage Mountain Comfort Suites. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts and loved her family. Surviving are her sons Robert and wife Tracey of Melbourne, FL and Bryan of Waymart; her  daughters Pearl Tomczyk of Waymart and Dawn Haines of Cherry Ridge; a step-daughter Shawn Crawn; grandchildren Alexis, Lauren, Heather, Rebecca, Thomas Jr., Charles, Bobie Jo, Leroy, John Jr., Hailey, Xavier, Cierra, John, Natasha, Levi, Israeil, Imiliany, Harmony, Nikki, Lizzy and Tyler; great grandchildren, Andrew "AJ", Aiden, Alisha & Baby Boy, Sonny, Destiny and Shyann; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Robin Haines and her sister Virginia Haines. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11 AM with Pastor Rob Kazinski of the Central United Methodist Church of Honesdale officiating. Carol Ann Waterbury
Carol Ann Waterbury, 54, of Honesdale died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore. She is the beloved wife of 35 years, Bryan Waterbury. The couple married September 13, 1975. Born July 11, 1956 in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary Ruckert Lynch. She attended school in Brooklyn and earned a degree in radiology technology from City Tech. She was employed as an x-ray tech before becoming disabled. She courageously battled four cancers and an autoimmune disease before pancreatic cancer. Carol was the best wife and friend any man could want. To all who knew her, you're a better person. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, great laugh, sharp wit, thoughtfulness and her kindness to animals. The giving of herself to others will be missed as well as her baked cream puffs that she made for doctor visits. Carol loved cooking, animals, cutting grass, planting flowers and feeding the deer. Also surviving are her brothers Michael and James Lynch; her sister Barbara Lynch; nieces and nephews ; and her beloved dogs Bella and Lucy. She was preceded in death by her brother Philip Lynch and her sister Mary Frugone. The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff who helped her through the years, Dr. Salko and P.A.C. Ken Bannon of Whites Crossing, Dr. Chowdhury and Rosemary of Eynon Surgical, Drs. Mary Ann Westbrook Tabler
Mary Ann Westbrook Tabler, 59 of Beach Lake, died peacefully, with loved ones by her side, after a 16 month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born February 13, 1952 in Buffalo, NY she was the daughter of the late Jack and Dorothy Kunka Westbrook. Mary was a certified nurses assistant at Julia Ribaudo in Lake Ariel. She was proud to be certified nurses assistant and it was her passion to care for others. Mary also loved and took great pride in her garden and flowers. She is survived by her daughter Julie Ann Katz of Honesdale; her brother Colonel Mark Westbrook and wife Tammy of Toano, VA stationed at Ft. Lee; her niece Ashley Westbrook of Burke, VA; her longtime companion Duane Fenon of Hamlin and her best friend whom she referred to as a sister, Donna Yeckley of NJ. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Glen Dyberry Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. 428 Main St. Honesdale. Memorial contributions can be made on the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr. Honesdale, PA 18431.

James Harley Chase
James Harley Chase, 87 of Hawley, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Pauline Walker. The couple married February 27, 1954. Born September 8, 1923 in Atlanta, GA he was the son and last surviving member of the Harley and Marguerite Donahue Chase family. He was a graduate of Hawley High School and later was drafted into the US Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he attended Penn State University where he played football. Again he was drafted into the US Marine Corps to serve during the Korean Conflict and in 1951 was injured and received a Purple Heart. In 1953 he graduated from the University of Scranton with a business degree. After graduating from college, he began working at Crumps Garage and later at Central Garage, both in Hawley. Later be opened his own business in Hawley, Jim Chase Ford. Jim was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, attending St. Joseph's Church in White Mills. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW in Hawley. Jim enjoyed walking, swimming and working on his brother-in-law, Joe Kelly's farm in Pleasant Mount. Also surviving is his daughter Erin Vennie and husband Scott of Tafton; his granddaughter Shannon Vennie; sister-in-laws Cathy Kelly and husband Joe of Pleasant Mount, Elizabeth Gallik and Ann Nonnemacher both of Honesdale and Mary Davies of California; his Godchild, Tom Chase; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Robert Chase and his sister Adelaide DeWilde. A Blessing Service will be held on Friday at 4 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. Friends may visit on Friday from 4 to 7. The Knights of Columbus will have a service at 7 PM followed by military honors. Cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.
