Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Sylvester, Rita,
Sylvester, Rita, formerly of Swedeland, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Phoenixville Hospital after an illness. Ms. Sylvester had resided at the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center for the last 9 years.
Ms. Sylvester was born in Swedeland on August 2, 1933, a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Teresa (Filipone) Sylvester. She is survived by her brother, John Sylvester of Swedeland, and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Nazarene Chillano, Joseph Chillano, and Peter Chillano, and by her sister, Rose Maisey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Ford St. & Union Ave., Bridgeport.
Friends may call at the church after 9 AM Tuesday.
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery, E. Norriton.
Contributions in Ms. Sylvester’s memory may be made to the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center, 1600 Black Rock Rd., Royersford, PA 19468. Arrangements are by the Ruggiero Funeral Home, Trappe.

Bateman, Harold H., Jr.,
Bateman, Harold N., Jr., of Norristown, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton after an illness. Mr. Bateman was born on August 15, 1948, in Norristown, a son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Olesnewicz) Bateman. He was 56.
Mr. Bateman attended schools in Norristown. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving 2 tours of duty.
Mr. Bateman loved animals, enjoyed all types of music, and was a staunch supporter of United States veterans.
Mr. Bateman is survived by one sister, Lo Scatchard of North Wales.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service at Riverside cemetery in West Norriton on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at 10 AM. Interment will follow.
Arrangements are by the Ruggiero Funeral Home, Trappe.

Hitchens, Richard Van, Jr.,
Hitchens, Robert V., Jr., of Gilbertsville, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his home after his fight with cancer. Mr. Hitchens was born in Norristown on November 23, 1948, a son of Robert V. Hitchens, Sr., of Bally and the late Anita (McDowell) Hitchens. He was 56.
Mr. Hitchens graduated from Alvernia College with a BA in Addiction Studies. He received his MA in Clinical Community Counseling from Eastern College in Devon. Mr. Hitchens worked at Eagleville Hospital as a group therapist for drug & alcohol patients and owned Happy Heart Counseling. He was a member of the American Counseling Association.
Mr. Hitchens served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam era and attained the rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed reading, jogging, and traveling.
In addition to his  Father, Mr. Hitchens is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Maria (Santangelo) Hitchens. Also surviving are his brothers, Glen Hitchens of California and Curtis Hitchens of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Hitchens.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service, Thursday, April 21, 2005,10:30 AM at the Good Shepherd Chapel of the Limerick Garden of Memories, 44 Swamp Pike, Limerick. Officiating will be  Father Joseph Dietz. Friends may call at the Chapel Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM and from 9:30 to 10:15 AM on Thursday. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Riegel, Richard S.,
Riegel, Richard S., of Birdsboro, died Monday evening, April 11, 2005, at his home. Mr. Riegel was born in Laureldale, Pennsylvania, on February 28, 1931, a son of the late Elwood and Goldie (Clevinger) Riegel. He was 74.
Mr. Riegel graduated from Reading High School. He worked as a forklift operator for Firestone Tires in Pottstown. Later, he worked for 11 years as a warehouse supervisor at Graterford Prison. His final employment was at the Reading Country Club. He was a member of Local 336 of the United Rubber Workers Union.
Mr. Riegel was a member of the Birdsboro Lodge and of the Lower Pottsgrove Sportsmen’s Club. He was also a member of Strichter Masonic Lodge in Pottstown and of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Birdsboro. He enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool.
Mr. Riegel is survived by his wife, Patricia (Clay) Riegel, and by 3 sons; Ricky of Pottstown, Gregory of Royersford and Jeffery, at home. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, l sister; Joan DeMarte of Wyomissing, and 3 brothers; Donald, Harold and Leon, all of Reading. He was preceded in death by his brother, James.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Riegel’s funeral service, Friday, 11 AM at the Mausoleum Chapel at Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. Officiating will be Pastor Barry Moyer, Chaplain for Caring Hospice. Friends may call at the Chapel after10:30AM.

Sullivan, Alfred J.,
Sullivan, Alfred J., of Graterford, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at the Colonade in Schwenksville after an illness. Mr. Sullivan was born in West Hartford, Connecticut, on September 1, 1928, a son of the late Eugene and Ruth (Hetrick) Sullivan. He was 76.
Mr. worked at Goodrich Tires in Oaks as a tire builder for many years. During World War I, he was an MP (military police) in the United States Army stationed in Germany during the occupation at the end of the war. He met his late wife, Hortenzia “Nelly” Sullivan in a displaced persons camp there and married her and brought her to the United States with him in 1948.
Private funeral services will be held at St. James Lutheran Church in Limerick with Pastor Stuart Luce officiating.

Moyer, Henry L.,
Moyer, Henry L., formerly of Royersford, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Sanatoga Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Moyer was born on February 2, 1922, a son of the late Harvey C. and Bertha R. (Kehl) Moyer, Sr. He was 83.
Mr. Moyer attended the Upper Providence Consolidated School. He worked in the foundry at Morris Wheeler in Royersford for many years. He enjoyed fishing and baseball and was an avid Eagles football fan. He was an active member of the Gilbertsville Fire Company.
Mr. Moyer is survived by his brother, Harvey C. Moyer, Jr. of Sanatoga, and by 4 nieces and l nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by l brother, Milton Moyer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service, Saturday, April 2, 2005, 11 AM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe. Officiating will be Rev. Frank Robinson, pastor of Heritage Bible Church in Pottstown. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 AM Saturday. Interment will be in the Limerick Garden of Memories.

Moister, Frank L.,
Moister, Frank L., of Middletown, formerly of Eagleville, died Sunday August 13, 2006 at Frey Village Retirement Center in Middletown. Mr. Moister was born in Norristown on January 2, 1922, a son of the late Douglas and Louise (Kirshner) Moister. He was 84.
Mr. Moister graduated from Norristown High School and from Temple University which he attended on a football scholarship.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War and was a career Marine officer, retiring in 1982 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He served in the Central Pacific and by 22 years of age had flown 50 combat missions. He was commander of a squadron which flew off of an aircraft carrier and flew bombers, primarily corsairs. He was awarded 2 purple hearts and the Navy Air Medal.
After retirement from the Marines, Mr. Moister was a manager for Keebler Biscuit in Philadelphia. In order to build his own home, he taught himself stone masonry, carpentry and woodworking He was also a self-taught machinist and mechanic. He was a master gardener and great animal lover. He formerly served as vice-president of the Methacton Township School Board.
Mr. Moister was the widower of Eleanor (Bingaman) Moister. He is survived by his children: Penny Grunder of Royersford, Frank L. Moister, III of Sellersville, Douglas Moister of Eagleville, Sue Stutzman of Middletown, Debbie Browning of Sanatoga, and Becky O’Toole of Plymouth, Minnesota; by 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Smith and by his brother, Douglas Moister and his sisters, Helen Donath and Anne Esrie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service, Friday, 11 AM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, with Pastor Andrew Grunder officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 PM. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Coventryville United Methodist Church.

Woodward, Ann (Kulesza),
Woodward, Ann (Kulesza) of Collegeville, died unexpectedly at her residence on August 9, 2006. Mrs. Woodward was born on January 24, 1958 in Schenectady, New York, a daughter of Chester and Mary Louise (Johnson) Kulesza. She was 48.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woodward is survived by her husband of 27 years, William Woodward, and by her son, Stephen, and by 1 sister.

Naples, Charles J., Jr.,
Naples, Charles J., Jr., of Schwenksville, died Monday, August 07, 2006, at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center after being stricken at home. Mr. Naples was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, on January 7, 1943, a son of the late Charles J. and Angela (Mazzarella) Naples, Sr. He was 63.
Mr. Naples graduated from Exeter High School. He received his BA in Music and Elementary Education from Wilkes College and his Master’s degree in Education from the University of Scranton.
Mr. Naples worked for 37 years in the Upper Merion School District where he taught 6th Grade Social Studies before his retirement. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and was an avid Eagles fan.
Mr. Naples was the husband of Sylvia A. (Nieczykowski) Naples for over 39 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 children; Charles Naples III of Schwenksville, Mark Naples of Perkiomenville, David Naples of Jeffersonville, and Angela Naples of Audubon. Also surviving are 2 sisters; Joanne Naples and Evelyn Naples, both of Exeter, PA, and 3 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Naples.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, Friday, August 11, 10 AM, at St. Mary the Virgin Catholic Church, 40 Spring Mount Rd., Schwenksville. Friends may call at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, Pa., from 7 to 9 PM Thursday. Interment will be in the Limerick Garden of Memories.

Cunningham, Helen M. (Taylor),
Cunningham, Helen M. (Taylor) of King of Prussia, died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Phoenixville Hospital. Mrs. Cunningham was born in Maryland on March 21, 1922, a daughter of the late Harry and Alva Ethel (Johnson) Taylor. She was 84.
Mrs. Cunningham graduated from Upper Merion High School and Bryn Mawr School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Bryn Mawr Hospital. She was a former member of mother of Divine Providence Catholic Church in King of Prussia.
Mrs. Cunningham enjoyed entering contests and loved to watch sunsets.
Mrs. Cunningham was the widow of Edward T. Cunningham, Sr. She is survived by her children; Edward T. Cunningham, Jr. of Collegeville, Michael Cunningham of Phoenixville, Patrick Cunningham of Houston, Texas, and Helen Guzzo of King of Prussia. Also surviving are her sister, Kathleen Taylor of King of Prussia, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Bennett Taylor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service, Thursday, August 10, 2006, 10 AM, at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe. Day, Elma C., of Royersford, died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Phoenixville Hospital. Mrs. Day was born in Norristown on May 27, 1933, a daughter of the late William and Elma (Baker) Heywood. She was 73.
Mrs. Day was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and loved to shop.
Mrs. Day was the widow of Richard P. Day. She is survived by her children; Colleen Kacanda of Collegeville, Greg Burnside of Devon, and Valerie Moyer of Reading. Also surviving are her brother, Robert Heywood of New York and 3 grandchildren. Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Ruggiero Funeral Home, Trappe. Horne, Glenn O., Sr.,
Horne, Glenn O. Sr., of Douglassville, died Friday, August 4, 2006, at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Horne was born in Derry, New Hampshire on February 17, 1940, a son of the late Owen and Elsie ( Engles) Horne. He was 66.
Mr. Horne graduated from the Samborne Seminary in New Hampshire. He worked as an electronics engineer for GE in San Jose, CA, at the nuclear power plant in Limerick, and lastly, in Philadelphia. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Derry, New Hampshire. He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed playing the piano which he did very well.
Mr. Horne and his wife retired to the Gulf Coast in Mississippi but were forced to return to this area by Hurricane Katrina which destroyed their home just about a year ago.
Mr. Horne was the beloved husband of Margaret DiPietro (Hearn) Horne. He is survived by his children,; Gretchen Meissner (Kurt) of Salem, NH, Holly Horne of Manchester, NH,Heidi Horne of Manchester, NH, Glenn Horne, Jr., of Sebastian, FL, and Ryan Horne (Jessica) of Boyertown. Also surviving are his step-children; Danny Hogan of Spring City, Kayla Hogan of Boyertown, Evan Hogan of Spring City, Anthony DiPietro (Krystal) of Pottstown, Donna DiPietro Robello (Rich) of Tucson, AZ, Frances Panfile of Pottstown, and Robert Golden (Mary Catherine) of King of Prussia. He is survived by 1 sister, Sandra Bearce (Chet) of Haverhill, NH and by 21+ grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Jason Robello.
Services and interment will be private.

Sowers, John R.,
Sowers, John R., of Pottstown, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center after an illness. Mr. Sowers was born on August 25, 1942 in Spring Mount, a son of the late Warren and Hazel (Danaker) Sowers. He was 63.
Mr. Sowers served in the US Army as a cook during the Vietnam War era. He worked at Firestone Tires and later, at Boyertown Body Works. He coached Midget Might Football in Boyertown and Little League baseball He also enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Sowers is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gail (Rinewalt) Sowers; by 2 sons, Jason J. Sowers of Skippack and Matthew Sowers of High Point, North Carolina; by his grandchildren, Miranda Sowers and Braydon Sowers; by 3 brothers, Warren Sowers of Pennsburg, George Sowers of Emporium, and Robert Sowers of Spring Mount; and by 2 sisters, Betty Shaner of Gilbertsville and Patricia Schwoyer of Pottstown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Van Every.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service, Tuesday, August 1, 10 AM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main Street, Trappe.
