Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

G. WILLIAM SPIES
G. William Spies, 73, of New Britain, died June 1, 2001 at Doylestown Hospital. He was the husband of H. Joyce (Lockett) Spies.
Born in Abington, he was the son of the late Gustave W., Sr. and Emma (Kraemer) Spies. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
A tool designer in aerospace engineering, he was employed by Standard Press Steel in Jenkintown, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Spies loved music and played the organ. He enjoyed working on antique cars and was an avid reader and woodworker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, William C. Spies of Fanwood, NJ and Teri Gross of Hatfield; and four grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service, 11 AM, Monday, June 4, 2001 at the Wittmaier-Scanlin Funeral Home, 175 E. Butler Ave., (Rt 202) Chalfont, where the family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11 AM. Interment , Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oncology Department, Doylestown Hospital, 595 W. State St., Doylestown, PA 18901.

JAMES D. STEWART
James Douglas Stewart, 31, of Harleysville, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Hospital at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, due to heart complications. He was the husband of Corie Ann (Baker) Stewart for seven years.
Born in Auburn, WA, he was a son of James David and Sara Louise (Keys) Stewart of University Place, WA.
Mr. Stewart had formerly been employed by CD Now as a customer service representative and by Access Services as a social worker, both located in Fort Washington. He was currently a full-time dad.
He cared deeply about young people and served as a senior high youth leader. He was delighted in his family and was a forgiving Christian gentleman. He enjoyed many sports, collected Ford scale model cars and always appreciated visiting Lake Nahwatzel in Shelton, WA.
Mr. Stewart was a member of Branch Community Church in Harleysville, where he was part of the performing arts ministry and an active member of a small group Bible study.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one son, James Caleb Stewart, at home; one sister, Sara Mossman and her husband, Chris, of Port Orchard, WA; two brothers, Aaron David Stewart and his wife, Jenny, and Ross Edward Stewart, all of University Place, WA; and his maternal grandmother, Margaret Keys of Tacoma, WA.
Viewing hours will be Sunday, July 8, at Branch Community Church, 100 S. Main St., Harleysville, PA 19438, from 2 to 3:30 PM. The funeral service will following the viewing hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Caleb Stewart College Trust c/o the church or to Branch Community Church, at the address above. Arrangements are by the Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home in Souderton.

H. DALE FERGUSON
H. Dale Ferguson, age 66, of Lansdale, died Friday, June 29, 2001 in Grand View Hospital following a long illness.

ROLAND R. HACKMAN
Roland R. Hackman, 76, of Lewisburg, formerly of Hatfield, entered into rest Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2001, in Mt. Pleasant, IA. On August 8, 1948 he married the late Mildred D. Freed, who preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1994.

DANNY B. HARLEY
Danny B. Harley, age 43, of Lansdale, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte L. (McKinnon) Harley, in 1997.

HELEN KOEHLER
Helen (Reiff) Koehler, age 90, died Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2001, in Dock Terrace, Towamencin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklynn C. Koehler Sr., in 1979. Formerly of Silverdale, she entered Dock Terrace in 1996.

DONNA R. RUSSO
Donna Ramsay Russo, 55, passed away July 4, 2001.

WILMER H. BISHOP
Wilmer H. "Bill" Bishop, 80, of West Rockhill Twp., formerly of Hilltown Twp., died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill. He was the husband of the late Ruth E. (Landis) Bishop, who died July 7, 1996.

RALPH L. FREDERICK
Ralph L. Frederick, 84, of Hatfield, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Homestead Nursing Home, Willow Grove. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Violet (Tyson) Frederick, in 1998.

VINCENT L. GERULIS
Vincent L. Gerulis, 83, died Wednesday evening, July 4, 2001, in North Penn Hospital, Hatfield Township. He was the husband of Marie J. (Kashatus) Gerulis and they observed their 56th wedding anniversary in January. Formerly of Wanamie, Mr. and Mrs. Gerulis moved to Hatfield Township in 1959.

ALLEN R. KEELY SR.
Private services and interment at Riverside cemetery in Norristown, will be Friday, July 13, for Allen R. Keely Sr., a retired lawyer and longtime Worcester Township resident. He died July 2, 2001, just two days short of his 86th birthday, in Holly House at the Meadowood Retirement Community in Worcester.

ROBERT B. McARTHUR
Robert B. McArthur, 86, of Cookeville, TN, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Ruby (Horn) McArthur.

HELEN DETWILER
Helen (Yerk) Detwiler, age 90, a resident of Souderton for more than 60 years, passed away Saturday morning, July 7, 2001, at Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, where she has resided for the last two years.
She was the wife of the late Marvin A. Detwiler, who passed away in 1965.
Born in Salfordville on December 22, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Ida (Long) Yerk.
Mrs. Yerk was a graduate of Pennsburg High School. She was employed as a seamstress in local clothing factories. She was a member of the Senior Adult Activity Center of Indian Valley and was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Souderton.
Surviving are a son, Larry D. Detwiler and his wife, Martha M., of Franconia; a sister, Mabel Horne of Milford Square; and three grandchildren, Cathy, Jeffrey and Michael.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Yerk.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, July 10, at 11 AM at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Franconia, where friends may call for the viewing from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will take place at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 69 West Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964.

EVERETTE B. JONES
Everette B. "Bud" Jones, age 77, of Lansdale, died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at his residence.
He had lived in the North Penn area for many years. He was the husband of Jeanne M. Jones.
Born in Rome, NY, he was the son of the late Everette and Clare (Burcth) Jones.
Mr. Jones graduated from Colgate University in 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific during WWII.
He had been the sales manager for the Rome Cable Corp. in Rome for 31 years, retiring in 1985. He had since been working part-time at Werner Motors in Lansdale.
Mr. Jones was a Protestant and was a member of the American Legion in Souderton and the VFW in Telford. He also belonged to the Harleysville-Souderton Gun Club and the Lansdale Senior Adult Activity Center.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five stepgrandchildren, Betsy, Barbara, Mark and Mike Giuglianotto, and Sharon Jones; and a sister, Shirley McMahon of Richmond, VA.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey L. Jones.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale. Graveside services are scheduled later in Rome cemetery, Rome.

GAIL E. WION
Gail E. Williamson Wion, 57, of Lansdale, died July 5, 2001 in North Penn Hospital.
Born in Portland, ME, she lived in Bar Harbor, ME, until age seven, when she moved to Lansdale with her parents, Pauline "Polly" (Falkenstrom) Williamson, who survives, of Lansdale, and her  Father, Clinton E. Williamson, who died last November 1.
She graduated from North Penn High School in 1962 and took a course in practical nursing at the former Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Norristown.
Gail was employed with the North Penn Convalescent Center in Lansdale for 20 years, from 1980 to 2000. Since last November, she had been working with Ridgeway Phillips in Springhouse as a home health aide.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Lansdale.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Paul R. Wion and his wife, Sandra, of Pottstown; her adored granddaughter, Isabel Rose Wion, with whom she enjoyed spending time; a brother, Eugene Williamson and his wife, Regina, of Lansdale; and a niece and nephew, Dawn and Eric Williamson.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael A. Williamson, in 1982.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service Wednesday, July 11, at 11:30 AM in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Derstine and Cannon Avenues, Lansdale. The family will welcome friends at the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association, 625 W. Ridge Pike., Bldg. A, Suite 100, Conshohocken, PA 19428-1190.

BIRESHCHANDRA BHATTACHARYA
Bireshchandra Bhattacharya, 79, formerly of Lansdale, passed away July 5, 2001, in his native country of India.

RICHARD V. CHUBB
Richard Vaughn Chubb, 44, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at his home in Duluth, GA.
Born and raised in Lansdale, he was a son of Mary Louise V. Chubb of Perkasie and Robert S. Chubb of Chalfont. He graduated from North Penn High School in 1975 and earned a degree from Penn State Ogontz.
He owned Chubb Construction and Remodeling Inc. in Duluth.
Rick enjoyed bow and gun hunting, salt and fresh water fishing and scuba and deep sea diving.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Robert and his wife, Bree; a niece, Elyse; and a nephew, Robert, all of Peach Tree City, GA. He is also survived by his grandmother, Zelda W. Vaughn, and an aunt, Nancy V. Kyper, both of Huntingdon; and an aunt, Barbara V. Reynolds of Reisterstown, MD.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 12, in Duluth, with the interment and a memorial service August 18 at 2 PM in Huntingdon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richard V. Chubb Memorial Fund, Crohn Colitis Foundation, 2250 N. Druid Hills Rd., Suite 250, Atlanta, GA 30329. Arrangements are by the Bill Head Funeral Home in Duluth.

LAURA E. CROUTHAMEL
Laura E. "Kay" Crouthamel, 85, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Hatfield. She was the wife of the late A. Herbert Crouthamel Jr., who died in 1987. She was a resident of Lansdale for more than 40 years. Prior to entering Gwynedd Square Center in 1997, she had resided with her daughter for four years and returned to live with her on July 2, where she was under hospice care.

GERTRUDE K. FRANCIS
Gertrude K. Francis, 70, of Beach Haven, NJ, died Sunday morning, July 8, 2001, at Southern Ocean Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Manahawkin, NJ. She had been in failing health. Formerly of North Wales, Mrs. Francis lived in Beach Haven for 23 years. She was the wife of 45 years of Joseph J. Francis.

FRANCES K. KOONS
Frances K. (Crowell) Koons, 73, of Harleysville, formerly of Telford, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill, where she was a medical patient for several weeks. She had been in failing health for several months.

JOSEPHINE LaBARRE
Josephine (Meci) LaBarre, age 83, of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Lansdale, died Monday, July 2, 2001, in Virginia Beach.

DORIS L. MOLL
Doris L. Moll, 69, formerly of Perkasie, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in North Penn Convalescent Center in Lansdale. She was the wife of the late William G. Moll, who died in April, 1987.
