Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Edward D. Savidge

MILTON - Edward D. Savidge, 94, formerly of Upper Market Sreet, Milton, died Sunday evening, April 22, at the Kramm Healthcare Center, Milton.

Mr. Savidge was born in Milton on March 21, 1907, a son of the late Edward W. and Rose E. (Dollby) Savidge. He had been employed at ACF Industries in Milton for more than 49 years, retiring as a senior inspector in 1974. Mr. Savidge was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific at Guam and Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milton, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Marine Corps League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. For over 25 years, he commanded the firing squad of the Milton area veterans organization at veterans' funerals.

Surviving are his wife, the former Myra Alverna Robinson, with whom he was married for 32 years; a son, Robert K. Savidge of Big Bend, Texas; a grandson, Donald Savidge; a granddaughter, Beth Savidge; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and by three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. Officiating will be the Rev. James D. Robison Jr. and the Rev. Martha Sue D. Moll. Interment will be made in the Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RD 2, where military services will be held by the Milton Area Veterans Organizations and the Marine Corps League.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, RR 2, Milton, Pa. 17847; or to the Susquehanna Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League, 222 Maple St., Mifflinburg, Pa. 17844.

Betty Ann Robenolt

WEST MILTON - Betty Ann Robenolt, 57, of 142 S. Third St., West Milton died Monday April 23 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg where she had been a patient since March 22.

She was born July 28, 1943 in Montour County, a daughter of Howard and Nellie (Ellis) Hoy.

On March 11, 1962 she married William C. Robenolt.

Mrs. Robenolt was a 1962 graduate of Warrior Run High School. She was an administrative assistant with Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit in Montandon. She was a member of the Community Mennonite Fellowship in Milton. She loved her family and grandchildren.

Mrs. Robenolt is survived by her husband of 39 years of West Milton; her mother, Nellie Deitrick of Turbotville RD; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin L. and Chad Cohrs of Milton RD; two sons and a daughter in law, William G. and Caryn Robenolt of Marysville and W. Scott Robenolt of West Milton; four grandchildren, Austin Cohrs, Alyssa Cohrs, Emily Robenolt and Allison Robenolt; three sisters, Mary Jane Zelna of West Milton, Peggy Weaver of Delaware, Shirley Kocher of Milton and a brother, John H. Hoy of Turbotville RD.

Relatives and friends may call on the family from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Community Mennonite Fellowship, Route 254, Milton RD 3. A funeral will be conducted at 11a.m. Friday at the church. Rev. David Martina will officiate. Interment will be in the CMF and Beaver Run Mennonite cemetery, Montour County.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ervin Blank, Robert Weaver, Walter Beaver, Harry Wynn, Ronald Robenolt and John Hoy. Should friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Community Mennonite Fellowship, PO Box 506, Milton, Pa 17847. Arrangements are under the care of Gary H. Cronrath Funeral Home Inc., South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

Mercella Ann Conrad Long

BLOOMSBURG - Mercella Ann Conrad Long, 63, of 621 Valley Road, Bloomsburg, died Sunday at the home of her daughter Sunken Heights, Bloomsburg.

She had been a resident of Bloomsburg for the past 10 years and had lived in Florida for six years, in Georgia for six years and in Wilmington, Delaware for 15 years.

Mrs. Long was born on Oct. 10, 1937, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary (Baker) Culp. She was a 1955 graduate of Lewisburg High School.

While a resident of Florida she was the office manager for a local real estate agency.

She was a volunteer with Care-Link of the Area Agency on Aging. She was also a volunteer at the Berwick Hospital and a founding member of the Breathing Club at Geisinger Medical Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Sabrina Conrad) Williams Kreisher of Bloomsburg; two sons: William H. Conrad IV of Berwick and Harry Charles Long, Jr. of Miami, Fla.; one grandson: Ryan Lawrence Williams. She was the last member of her immediate family.

A private funeral will be held at the Allen Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Bloomsburg, with the Rev. James Kremer, of the Benton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the White Deer cemetery.

Terry L. Gessner

New Berlin Elementary teacher

MIFFLINBURG - Terry Lee Gessner, 51, of 339 Thompson St., died at 5:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born June 1, 1952, in Lewisburg, a son of Patricia (Wagner) Gessner of Lewisburg and the late Luther L. Gessner, who died July 15, 1993.

He and his wife, the former Traci L. Culp, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Nov. 19, 2002.

Mr. Gessner was a 1971 graduate of the Lewisburg High School, where he was class president. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Millersville University, Millersville.

He was a third-grade teacher at New Berlin Elementary School.

Mr. Gessner began his career at Mifflinburg Elementary School, where he taught fourth-grade. After his first year, he transferred to New Berlin Elementary to teach third-grade and continued doing so for 26 years. It is there he also held the position of building coordinator.

He enjoyed being a teacher and mentor.

His students, who knew him as "Mr. G," looked forward to their annual trips to the Milton YMCA.

Mr. Gessner was also the assistant varsity football coach for Mifflinburg High School for 11 years and was the head coach for one year. He assisted with the junior varsity wrestling team and midget football. Throughout those years, he and his wife kept an open door policy to students of all ages.

For the past six years, Mr. Gessner was the captain of the Mifflinburg Community Ambulance Association. He also earned the distinction of emergency medical technician and performed in that capacity for 11 years.

Mr. Gessner was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Mifflinburg and volunteered for three years as co-leader of the Junior Luther League group at First Lutheran Church.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter and son, Madeline Rae Gessner and Clayton Bradley Gessner, both at home; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina D. and Guillermo J. Morales of Selinsgrove and Melanie K. and D. Timothy Smith of Amissville, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Todd A. and Beverly A. Gessner of Walnutport; a  Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl M. and Pearl E. Culp of Mifflinburg; four nephews, Nathan, Shane, Danny and Dillon; and two nieces, Tiffany and Jenna.

A private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family.

An open memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in First Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg.

Burial will be in the Lewisburg cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mifflinburg Community Ambulance Association Building Fund, P.O. Box 298, Mifflinburg, Pa. 17844.

Arrangements are being handled by Gary H. Cronrath Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

Helen A. Noel

Enjoyed gardening

LEWISBURG - Helen A. Noel, 83, of 25 Riverview Manor, Lewisburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born June 26, 1920, in York, where she was a resident until Oct. 2000, when she relocated to Lewisburg.

Mrs. Noel was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles F. Noel, who died in 1966, after 27 years of marriage. Her second husband, Joseph F. Noel, died in 1993, after 22 years of marriage.

Mrs. Noel retired in 1982 from the York Post Office, where she had worked as a clerk.

She enjoyed gardening and cats. She was an avid fan of Baltimore Orioles baseball, Penn State football and Tiger Woods.

Mrs. Noel is survived by two children, Michael Noel of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Carol Noel Hawley of Watsontown; four grandchildren, William Noel of Virginia Beach, Va., Christine Boland of Dover, Kristen Hawley Turner of Somerset, N.J., and Matthew Hawley of Boston; one brother, William Koicuba of York; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at noon Saturday in the John Keffer Funeral Home, 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, with burial immediately following at the Mt. Rose cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the beginning of the service in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Ave., York, Pa. 17403 or to RiverWoods, 3201 River Road, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837.

Elizabeth S. 'Nancy' Ertel

Former Watsontown RR2 resident

WILLIAMSPORT - Elizabeth S. "Nancy" Ertel, 83, of 1900 B. Ravine Road, and formerly of Watsontown RR2, died at 3:52 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in Williamsport Hospital.

Born March 20, 1920, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Sydney Mervyn and Marion (Fraser) Sinclair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, V.A.L. Ertel Jr.

Mrs. Ertel graduated from Highland Hall High School, Hollidaysburg, and attended Lycoming College.

She later worked for Bell Telephone of Williamsport; the Sterners Store, Dewart; and Watsontown Bank for several years until her retirement.

Mrs. Ertel was a life member of Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society and a member of the Watsontown Guild.

She volunteered as a hospice worker at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, and the Red Cross Blood Bank.

She is survived by three sons and  daughters-in-law, Jeffrey S. and Anne Ertel of Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Douglas F. and Denise Ertel of Watsontown, Stephen G. and Anne Ertel of Reading; one sister, Ann Hammatt of Clearwater, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Sydney Sinclair and William Sinclair; and a sister, Katherine Sinclair.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in the Wildwood cemetery Chapel, Williamsport, with Pastor Ned Weller officiating.

Family and friends are invited to a luncheon after the service at the home of Doug and Denise Ertel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Fort Freeland Heritage Society, Turbotville, or to Evangelical Community Hospital Hospice Care, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837.

Arrangements were handled by Cronrath Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.

Marion I. Hurst

Designed leather accessories

WATSONTOWN - Marion I. Hurst, 77, of 1105 Main St. for the past 13 years, and formerly of Liberty Street, died at 5:36 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in Williamsport Hospital, where she was admitted Saturday. Her death followed an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 3, 1926, near Watsontown, the daughter of the late Russell and Elsie Leech.

Her husband of 41 years, William C. Hurst, died in 1990.

Mrs. Hurst was employed at Fox-Knapp Co. in Milton. For many years, she also designed hand-tooled leather accessories, which she marketed at various flea markets and craft shows throughout Pennsylvania. She was a breeder and seller of Pomeranian dogs and Persian cats for many years.

She was affiliated with Friendship Baptist Church near Watsontown.

Mrs. Hurst enjoyed crocheting, designing and handcrafting dolls, making plastic canvas designs and collecting porcelain dolls.

She is survived by one daughter and a son-in-law, Judy L. and Terry Weaver of Watsontown; one son, Keith F. Hurst of Milton; four grandchildren, Amy Noaker, Jeffrey and Michael Weaver and Tammy Hurst; and six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Doran and Riley Weaver and Natalie, Danielle and Ryan Noaker.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Claire W., who died in 1986; and an infant son, Billy; one sister, Betty Hagenbauch; and two brothers, Edward and Kenneth.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Friendship Baptist Church, Susquehanna Trail, Watsontown.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Jerry L. Caswell officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Harmony cemetery, Milton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 10 Voris Lane, Watsontown, Pa. 17777.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cronrath Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.

Melvin Ruhl

LEWISBURG - Melvin Ruhl, 74, of 228 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, died Monday evening, October 6, 2003, in Kramm Healthcare Center, Milton.

Herbert M. Miller

MILTON - Funeral services for Herbert M. Miller, who died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, were held Monday in Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service with the Rev. B.J. Collins officiating.

Interment was in Highland cemetery, New Columbia.

Serving as pallbearers were Todd and Nathan Miller, Tom Yocum, Jim Emery, Josh Culton and Roger Counts. Harry Klees served as an honorary pallbearer.

Naomi L. Seibert

Watsontown High School graduate

NEW COLUMBIA - Naomi L. Seibert, 70, of 1085 Old Route 15, died at 11:16 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in her home following an illness of four months.

She was born June 5, 1933, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Oliver and Frances (Leahy) Thornburg.

She and her husband, Llewellyn L. Seibert, were married for 50 years.

Mrs. Seibert was a 1951 graduate of Watsontown High School.

She was employed at the Milton Shoe Factory and later at Kramm's Healthcare Center, Milton.

Mrs. Seibert was a member of West Milton United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and held various offices.

Earlier in her life, she was a Hemlock Girl Scout leader and was also a Cub Scout leader and den mother in West Milton.

Mrs. Seibert was a volunteer for more than 11 years with Evangelical Hospice, Lewisburg,

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, quilting and collecting butterfly memorabilia and Beanie cats.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons and two  daughters-in-laws, Gregory Seibert of New Columbia, William and Kayla Seibert of Milton, and Ted and Sharon Seibert of Picture Rocks; one daughter and a son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Larry Arnold of Milton; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several siblings, Peggy Cromis of West Milton, Bernita Yost of Lewisburg, Earl Thornburg of West Milton, Myrna Brady of Marietta and Nancy Ditzler of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy Arnold; two brothers, Emory and William; and one sister, Virgil Smith.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Cronrath Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the West Milton United Methodist Church, High Street, West Milton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. John E. Lee, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Church Hill cemetery, Kelly Township, Union County.
