Dr. Harry G. Austin Jr.
Richland Township

Dr. Harry G. Austin Jr., 85, co-chairman of the board of James Austin Co., in Mars, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001. He was born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 24, 1916, son of the late Harry G. and Mazie (Teufel) Austin. Mr. Austin graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He was discharged as a major in the infantry and received a Bronze Star. He served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, and was former president of Smaller Manufacturer's Council in Pittsburgh and a member and former chairman of the board of trustees at La Roche College, where he received an honorary doctorate in business administration in 1988. In 1976, he was appointed to the U.S. Treasury Small Business Advisory Committee. In 1977, he was named Small Businessman of the Year in areas including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and Washington D.C. and served on the Small Business Task Force on Venture and Equity Capital for Small Business. He also served the Small Business Administration Region Three, Pittsburgh Advisory Council, was a member of Pittsburgh Athletic Association and a member of Butler Country Club. Elected to the board of directors of Mars National Bank in 1969 and became director Emeritus in 2000. Beloved husband for 44 years of Roseann (Yarchak) Austin. Dear  Father of Harry G. Austin III of Wexford and J. Douglas Austin of Richland; brother of Madeleine Samarco of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Jack Austin of Adams Township and Dr. James Austin of Boston, Mass.; grandfather of Harry IV, Brian and Colleen Austin. Margaret M. Barone, 83, on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001; at her residence. Mrs. Barone was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Pittsburgh. She was the wife of the late Raymond R. Barone: mother of Kathleen Barone, Cindy and her husband Gregg Dickson, Raymond W. Barone and the late Roberta Barone; sister of Rosemary Young, Evelyn Panzes and Warren "Lefty" Frazier; grandmother of Miranda Barone, Andrew Hogan and Angela Dickson; great-grandmother of Dominic and Shaun Eubanks. Pauline C. (Sistek) Braucher
Warren, Ohio
formerly of Latrobe

Pauline C. (Sistek) Braucher, 68, of Warren, Ohio, formerly of Latrobe, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in her home. She was born July 11, 1933, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Paul E. Moore and Sarah J. Shepler. In 1988, after 25 years of service, Pauline retired from Glass Beads in Latrobe. She married Charles M. Braucher on Jan. 30, 1990. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Paula L. Johnson; a brother, Charles P. Moore, both of Latrobe; and five grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Idella M. Moore and Cora J. Beaumariage. Pauline enjoyed country music and traveling to the casinos in Atlantic City. Visitation will take place Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the BOROWSKI MEMORIAL HOME, Newton Falls, Ohio, immediately followed by the funeral service. Contributions may be made to the Red Cross, 661 Mahoning Ave., Warren, OH 44483 for the Sept. 11 Fund.

Elizabeth J. (Dryna) Brucker

Elizabeth J. (Dryna) Brucker, 71, of Scottdale, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2001, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. On this date, our loving mother went to be with the Lord. Betty was born in Josephine, Oct. 2, 1930, a daughter of the late Joseph Lucas and Catherine Petrick Dryna. Betty had been employed by L.E. Smith Glass, Mt. Pleasant, where she served in hand painting and packaging, retiring in 1990 after 18 years of service. She was also a local caregiver for the elderly and a member of St. John Byzantine Church and its Altar Society. She was also a member of the Polish American Club's Ladies Auxiliary, Everson, the Standard Shaft Ladies Auxiliary, Mt. Pleasant, the Everson Senior Citizens, Greater Scottdale Senior Citizens and the Connellsville Senior Tigers. Betty enjoyed the many pleasures of life - cooking, gardening, sharing recipes, crafts, bird watching, spending time with grandchildren and friends, bingo and traveling. Betty is survived by her loving family: her children, Karen Brucker Williams of Connellsville and Vince Stern, Arlene Brucker Caliguire and husband, Ronald, of Mt. Pleasant, Lynn Brucker and Marty Orban of Wooddale, Bruce Brucker and wife, Sherry (Sobehart), of Apollo and Shari Brucker Kelly and husband, Don, of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Nicklas and Tiffany Brucker and Tyler, Breanna and Ryan Kelly; a sister, Gertrude Kuffner of Scottdale; a brother, Joseph Dryna and wife, Gloria, of Erie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Glen J. Brucker, on May 30, 1970; a son-in-law, Eugene ``Jiggs" Williams, on June 18, 1987; and a brother, John Joseph Dryna. Rev. Gerald Dye
Old Bethany

The Rev. Gerald "Jerry" Dye, 71, of Old Bethany (East Huntingdon Township), was embraced in the arms of his heavenly  Father Thursday evening, October 11, 2001, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. Gerald was born Dec. 7, 1929, in Meadville, a son of the late Robert Paul and Nina Rodawalt Dye. He married the former Gladys Myers on Aug. 23, 1950, in Scottdale. Gerald was currently serving God as minister of the First Christian Church in Grindstone. He and his wife also owned a woodcraft business called Double Dye Creations. Gerald had served as a minister throughout the eastern U.S. and presently held services on Sunday afternoons at Hempfield Towers. Previously, he served at Christian Church of Pine Grove, W.Va. Gerald attended Lincoln Christian College at Belair, Md., and Johnson Bible College at Knoxville, Tenn., and graduated with a BA degree in religion and ministry from the Summit Theological Seminary at Terre Haute, Ind. He was a 1949 graduate of East Huntingdon High School and served as chaplain of Civil Air Patrol Squadron #1405 at New Eagle and Squadron #1408 at Scottdale. When he resided in East Northport, N.Y., with his wife, Gerald served as a scoutmaster, YMCA Indian Guide and a missionary. Gerald is survived by his loving family: his wife of 51 years, Gladys Myers Dye; his three sons, Jerry K. Dye and wife, Susan, of Mt. Pleasant, Timothy P. Dye at home and Steven J. Dye and wife, Kookie, of Knoxville, Tenn.; his daughter, Susan Horner and husband, Rodney, of Plum; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Dye of Charleston, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Dye, Caleb and Luke Horner, Heather, Heidi, and Nathan Eberly; a great-grandson, Jake Shirley; a sister, Martha Pritchard and husband, Donald, of Hanover; three brothers, Raymond Dye and wife, Ruth, of Mt. Pleasant, Richard Dye and wife, Claire, of St. Louis, Mo., and Donald Dye and wife, Judy, of Vila Rica, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gerald will be walking with his oldest son, Charles Paul Dye, who passed away on Feb. 8, 2001, as they explore those streets brightly lit by the Son (Jesus) and their Lord. Samuel J. Hamilton
North Huntingdon

Samuel J. Hamilton, 76, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in his home. He was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Irwin, a son of the late Willard and Dorothy Peters Hamilton. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as shop manager for Industrial Alloys of Penn and was formally employed by Pittsburgh Reflector of Irwin. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, North Huntingdon. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. Sam was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer and will be remembered as being a wonderful husband and  Father. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Willard and Jack Hamilton. Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Madeline Gombos Hamilton; a daughter, Jane Humlan and her husband, Michael, of North Huntingdon; three sons, Stephen and his wife, Rebecca Hamilton, of North Huntingdon, Timothy and his wife, Vicki Hamilton, of Madison, and Thomas Hamilton of Johnstown; five grandchildren, Chad, Erika, Susan, Michael and Kelsey; a brother, Ralph Hamilton of Paintertown; a sister, Dorothy Mardell of North Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Donald G. Heffley
Connellsville

Donald G. Heffley, 69, a lifelong resident of Connellsville, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Connellsville, a son of the late Ernest and Helen Swallop Heffley. Don was a 1950 graduate of Connellsville Area High School and of the University of Pittsburgh in 1954. Prior to retirement, he worked in sales, service and production for the Anchor Glass Co. for 37 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of B.P.O.E. 503, Connellsville. He was also a member of the Pennsville United Methodist Church. Don is survived by a son and a daughter, Dennis Claybaugh and Diane Brienza, both of Connellsville; three grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Brienza of Connellsville and Denise Claybaugh of McKeesport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances V. Capella Heffley. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Watson officiating. Virgil H. Johnston
Saltsburg

Virgil H. Johnston, 81, a lifelong resident of Saltsburg, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born May 14, 1920, in Loyalhanna Township, a son of the late Archie K. and Margaret Young Johnston. He was a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Highways and had been manager of the Edgewood cemetery in Saltsburg for 40 years. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a sergeant in the 5th Army. He was a member of the Saltsburg Presbyterian Church and F&AM Williamson Lodge 431. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lynn Johnston, in 1977; two brothers, Ronald and Latimer Johnston; and four sisters, Hazel Campbell, Mabel Nowry, Mary Louise Compton and Florence Quigley. Survivors include his wife, Leona E. Johnston of Saltsburg; two  daughters, Mrs. Joel (Margaret L.) Elizeus of Pittsburgh and Lois Johnston of Libertyville, Ill.; and three grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME, 701 Salt St., Saltsburg, where service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Satler officiating. Russell K. Keller

Russell K. Keller, 92, of Jones Mills, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in his home. He was born July 26, 1909, in Jones Mills, a son of the late William and Lucinda Bittner Keller. Russell was a lifelong resident of Jones Mills and worked as a self-employed saw mill operator and fanner. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Acme. He was a member of the Antique Automotive Club of America. Russell is survived by two  daughters, Geraldine Fligger and husband, Emerson, and Arlene Brown and husband, Zane, all of Acme RD3; two sons, Marvin Keller and wife, Charlotte, and Melvin Keller and wife, Shirley, all of Jones Mills; six grandchildren, Lisa Ohler and husband, Scott, of Rockwood, Mark Brown and wife, Martha, of Jones Mills, Leta Wynn and husband, Bryan, of Acme RD3, Ryan Lee Keller and Benjamin Edward Keller, both of Jones Mills and Darlene Layman and husband, John, of Normalville; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Luetta Montique of Jones Mills, Genevieve Witt of Donegal and June Weyant of Clinton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Rhoda I. Kalp Keller; a brother, Wilford Keller; and three sisters, Mae Kalp, Beulah Pritts and Erma Friedline. James R. Kornides

James R. Kornides, 62, of Greensburg, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Latrobe, a son of the late Stephen and Mary Zamisky Kornides. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Clare Kornides and Cecilia Andros; three brothers, the Rev. Marcian Kornides, O.S.B., Eugene Kornides and Joseph Kornides. Survivors include his wife, Mary Straka Kornides; two  daughters, Christine Kornides of Greensburg and Marlene Kornides of Melbourne, Australia; four sisters, Mary Kubit and Catherine Guzik of Latrobe and Helen Oleyar and Anne Malarik of Bradenville; a granddaughter, Amanda Stinson of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. John William Kutshinsky
Latrobe

John William Kutshinsky, 54, of Latrobe RD5, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, in Unity Township. He was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Latrobe, a son of Albert W. Kutshinsky Sr. of Latrobe RD5 and the late Lydia Jean Todd Kutshinsky. John was a nuclear engineer, having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Enterprise and formerly worked for Stone-Webster in Boston. He worked for the Literacy Council helping people to read and tutored at WCCC. In addition to his  Father, he is survived by a sister, Karen Laurene Rhome of Bradenville; and a brother, Albert W. Kutshinsky Jr. of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry, with the Rev. David D. Wilson Jr. officiating. Interment will be private.

Bernard J. 'Bernie' Leech Sr.

Bernard J. "Bernie" Leech Sr., age 90, on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. He was a son of the late James B. and Mary (Maher) Leech. Husband of the late Anna B. (Casey) Leech.  Father of Nancy (Jim) O'Connell of Penn Hills, Peggy (late Gordon) Hudak of Wilmerding, Regina (Joe) Curran of Wilmerding, Mary Pat (Bernie) Cromer of Wilkinsburg, Corrinne (Paul) Estok of Monroeville, Bernie (Anita) Leech of Michigan and Michael (Nancy) Leech of Georgia. Survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Brother of Edward (Lena) Leech of Florida, James (Lois) Leech of Florida, Robert (Jean) Leech of East McKeesport, and the late Francis Leech and Mary (Lawrence) Connelly. Also survived by nieces and nephews. He was a life member of A.O.H. Division 17, Wilmerding, and had 61 years of service with the Wilmerding Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired tester for the Westinghouse Air Brake Co., Wilmerding, with over 42 years of service. He was an inductee of the East Boros Sports Hall of Fame.

James Charles Miller, 55, a resident of Neville Island for the past 30 years, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was born in Pittsburgh on July 20, 1946, son of the late Joseph William and Josephine Virginia (Lettiere) Miller. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph William Miller Jr. Mr. Miller was a 1965 graduate of East Pittsburgh High School. He was employed 17 years with Fab Tec as a welder. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, GPU and the Aquatic Boat Club. He is survived by his loving fiancee Kimberly A. DiSanto; his sister, Carol A. Conroy of Roselle Ill.; three brothers, Patrick F. Miller of Katy, Texas, Dennis M. Miller of Wilkins and Michael J. Miller of Houston, Texas. Visitation Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at COPELAND'S CORAOPOLIS, 867 Fifth Ave. Funeral Mass Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church with  Father Malcolm McDonald as officiant. Anna Marie (Adams) Mozzetti, 79, suddenly on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001. She was born June 17, 1922, in Pittsburgh. Beloved wife of the late Peter C.; loving mother of Peggy and her husband Bill Quigley, Don Mozzetti, and Debbie and her husband Frank Dietz; dear grandmother of Tim, Bill, Joe and Dan Quigley and Tammy Lex; great-grandmother of Ben Lex, Katie Quigley and Ally Quigley; sister of Margaret Hankle, John Adams, Dolly Glenn, Mary Lou Skosnik and the late Joe Adams and June Heukeshoven. Margaret Geci Rayman, 82, of North Versailles, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in the LGAR Home, Turtle Creek. She was born June 21, 1919, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late Andrew and Sophia Mayerski Geci. Margaret was a retired employee of Gimbels Department Store, a member of the V.I.P. Senior Citizens and V.I.P. Travel Club, both of North Versailles. She was a member of the East Allegheny AARP and an avid bowler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Rayman; three brothers, Andrew, Michael and John Geci; and a sister, Ann Turkovic. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Hilty of Irwin; three grandchildren, Sherri Sawders and husband, Daryl, of East McKeesport, Richard Hilty of Grapeville and Jeffrey Hilty of North Versailles; two great-great grandchildren, Brianne and Jeremy Sawders; a sister, Mary Maha of McKeesport; a brother, Edward Geci of McKeesport; a sister-in-law, Ella Geci of McKeesport; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the FORGIE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Dennis officiating. Interment to follow in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.
