John Homer, 87, of Smithton, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in Mon Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township. He was born Feb. 18, 1914, in New York, a son of the late Michael and Pauline Homer. Mr. Homer was a coal miner, having retired from Republic Steel and Banning Four. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Rostraver Township, where he served as a trustee and deacon, and was a member of the Men's Class. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He is survived by a son, James W. Homer of Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Jacobs of Smithton; two sisters, Mary Pleva of Dawson and Ann Simzisko of Jacobs Creek; four grandchildren, David W., Daniel L. and Christopher M. Jacobs and Claudia Homer; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Belle (Walker) Homer, on Jan. 29, 1998; and three brothers, Stanley, Peter and Michael Homer. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. Family and friends will meet for a service Friday at 11 a.m. in the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Rostraver Township, with the Rev. Norman Melser officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Branch cemetery, Rostraver Township.

Patricia (Pietrzyk) Kranick, on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. Wife of Carl J. Kranick; mother of Stacey E., Timothy J., Jody Kranick and Yolly. Grandmother of Christopher, Caroline and Austin. No visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Church, 21st at Smallman Street in the Strip District. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Three Rivers Youth Outreach Program, (The Hub) 26th at Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Maria C. Kuhel, 92, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Aug. 17, 1909, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Minogna Felice. She was retired from the Greensburg Salem School District, and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ignatius Kuhel; two sons, Anthony and Joseph; a grandson, Robert Domineck; a brother, Michael Felice; and a sister, Katherine Panichella. Survivors include three children, Robert Kuhel and wife, Anona, Marietta Domineck and husband, Joseph, and Patricia Pardi, all of Greensburg; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Moffa of Greensburg and Emma Santella of Shrewbury; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends received at the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Wanda A. Morra, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in UPMC Passavant. Mrs. Morra was vice president and treasurer for Morr-Craft Products, Inc. She was born in Bishop, Pa., on March 23, 1919, daughter of William and Bessie Janis Kavecki. Surviving are two  daughters, Kathy E. Ackerman of Edmond, Okla., and Karen C. Morra of McCandless; two brothers, William F. Kavecki and Edward S. ``Dutch" Kavecki, both of McCandless; also her dearest friend, Rita Diethrich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Morra, and her sister, Helen C. Baldwin. Mary Elizabeth ``Betty" Morris, 86, of Butler, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Butler Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1914, in Bolivar, the daughter of the late Francis Elliott Robinson and Rebecca Hammond. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, the Butler Gideon Auxiliary and the Elizabeth Circle. Survivors include a son, Larry G. Morris of Boulder City, Nev.; a daughter, Mrs. Randall J. (Diane) Hixson of Springfield, Va.; a brother, John W. Robinson of Johnstown; a sister, Mrs. Robert L. (Anna Brett) Brown of Jupiter, Fla.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred C. Morris, on Nov. 25, 1986; an infant son; and a brother. Friends were received Tuesday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME INC., 124 E. North St., Butler. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, 420 N. Main St., Butler, PA 16001, followed by interment in Westview cemetery, Bolivar. Elnora R. (Layton) Naugle

Elnora R. (Layton) Naugle, 82, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born April 18, 1919, in Madera (Clearfield County), a daughter of the late Henry E. and Ella N. (Dimond) Layton. She was a member of the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Naugle; five brothers, Homer, Clarence, Ralph, Charles and Richard Layton; and two sisters, Genevieve Layton and Violet Rice. She is survived by her son, Clarence W. Naugle at home; her daughter, Sandra L. Erb and husband, Charles, of New Alexandria; two grandchildren, Janel L. Brown of Mt. Pleasant and John Evanichko of Bradenville; two great-grandchildren, Ivy and Zachary Jr.; two brothers, Irvin and Henry Layton, both of Johnstown; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, where service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Georgianna (Steineck) O'Leary, 72, on Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in her home. She was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Pittsburgh, daughter of William Michael and Marie Winter Steineck. Mrs. O'Leary was a homemaker and member of St. John Neumann Church, Franklin Park, and its Over 50 Club. Wife of James J. O'Leary; mother of Karen Marie Butler of Spring Hill, Fla., Maria L. Holtz of West View and Frederick J. O'Leary of Shadyside; grandmother of Jennifer and A.J. Obrosky of Spring Hill, Fla., and R.C. and Elena Holtz of West View. Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Matthew C. O'Leary on Oct. 15, 2000; two sisters, Louise Plunkett and Betty Adams. Visitation Wednesday and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the H.P. Beatrice (Kinsey) Lauffer Shaw, 84, of Irwin, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Jeannette. She was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Shafton, a daughter of the late William F. and Mary L. (Lucas) Kinsey. She was an LPN nurse at Briarcliff Pavilion, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Jeannette, the Manor senior citizens, a past president of the Manor Women's Club, the Greater Greensburg senior citizens, the Progressive Women's Club of Youngwood and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Youngwood V.F.D. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Lauffer, on March 5, 1986; a brother, Russell Kinsey; a sister, Emily Carter; and a nephew, Arthur Kinsey. Survivors include a son, Mark A. Lauffer of Latrobe; a daughter, Carole Urias of North Huntingdon; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew, John R. Kinsey of Irwin. Friends received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, where service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Robert D. Ross officiating. Interment , Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

Pauline T. Smith

Pauline T. Smith, 76, of Greensburg, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born March 30, 1925, in Brownsville, a daughter of the late Paul and Barbara (Grdich) Smith. Prior to retirement, Ms. Smith had been employed by the Bell Telephone Co., and was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Smith, and a sister, Mary Kissell Shelton. She is survived by her son, Dr. Philip P. Garner of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren, Alexander and Naomi Garner; a brother, John E. Smith of Greensburg; and four sisters, Kathryn Fannerella, Helen Smith, and Roseann and her husband Frank Dean, all of Greensburg, and Patricia and her husband James Reavis of Pittsburgh; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic cemetery, Hempfield Twp. The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to a charity of one's choice. Alfonse ``Al" M. Stanton (Stankunas), 91, on Monday, Oct. 15, 2001. Beloved husband of the late Ann (Mitchell) and Virginia (Breitigan).  Father of Thomas Stanton of Shadyside, Carol Stanton of West Homestead and Marilyn Martin of State College. Brother of Walter Stann and C. Francis Stann, both of Florida, Edmund Stankunas of Baldwin and Emily Paukstitus of Maryland. Grandfather of Ann, Blake and Quinn Stanton, and Matt and Doug Martin. Mrs. Tamburino was a homemaker and member of Wilson Presbyterian Church in Clairton. Wife of the late Eli Tamburino; mother of Linda Nahay of Waynesboro, Va., and David E. Tamburino of Laurel, Md.; sister of Joseph Slifko of Port Vue and John Slifko of Ann Arbor, Mich. Also survived by three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Tomasic and wife Susan of Murrysville, and Jamie Tomasic Volpe and husband Chris of Connecticut; brother of the late Stephen and George Tomasic. Frank T. ``Benny" Weir, 77, a lifelong member of Mammoth, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Mammoth, a son of the late Paul H. and Maria A. Flowers Weir. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Calumet and St. Florian Catholic Church of United. Prior to retirement, Mr. Weir was employed in management by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Corp. of Kecksburg. He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the 558th Anti-Aircraft Air Warning Battalion. He was a life member of VFW Post 3368 and American Legion Post 446, both of Mt. Pleasant. He was also an honorary member of the Kecksburg V.F.D. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Weir. He was the loving husband of 53 years to Leona C. Budny Weir; and the loving  Father and proud grandfather of Paulette R. Gridler, her husband Richard of Scottdale, and their children, R. Thomas and his fiancee Leigh Burke, and James; Patricia E. Swiderski of Greensburg and her children, Joey and Tiffany; Frank M., his wife Sandra of Mt. Pleasant, and their children, Francis, Pvt. Jesse and Derrick; Frederick A., his wife Mary Lou of Kecksburg, and their son, Freddy; Gregory A., his wife Leslie of Acme, and their children, Tim and Danielle; Marie M., her husband Ronald Goulding of Mammoth, and their children, Ronnie, Dustin and Gregory; and Christine M., her husband Ronald Prinkey of Ruffsdale, and their son, Jeremiah; a great-granddaughter, Megan Grace; the following brothers and sisters, Paul of West Homestead, Thomas of Barsheeba, Tenn., Elmer of Camp Hill, Rose Marie Domasky of Norvelt, Alice Kapura of Greensburg, Rebecca Hibbs of Blairsville, James of Connellsville and Mary Louise Zimmerman of Youngwood. Frank is also survived by two aunts, Alice Flowers of Greensburg and Mary Flowers of Latrobe. Friends received in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be in the funeral home Thursday at 10:20 a.m., followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. John M. Foriska and the Rev. Dennis A. Bogusz as co-celebrants. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus cemetery, Calumet. A wake service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 3 p.m. and military rites will be accorded by the AMVETS of United and the Armbrust Veterans. Sandra L. Hoffer, funeral director.

Charles Yezek, 87, of Everson, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born July 18, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant, he was a son of the late Frank and Anna (Hribal) Yezek. Surviving are a daughter, Mickie Roller of Acme; a grandson, Jeffrey Yankowski of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, George Yezek of Mt. Pleasant and Milton Yezek and wife, Kitty, of Clover, S.C.; and a sister, Eleanor Szczygiel of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Yezek; and two brothers, Jesse and William Yezek. A memorial service will be held at the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., 730 W. Main St., Mt Pleasant
