Christina Dolores Appleby, 86, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. Born Dec. 29, 1914, in Eleanora, Pa., she was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend who will forever be remembered in our thoughts and hearts. All who knew her found her to be caring and friendly. Christina was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Appleby; and a stepson, Robert Appleby. She is survived by a son, Gavin Appleby and his wife, Pattie; a stepson, William Appleby and his wife, Marilyn; Robert Appleby's wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Christie DeMasi, Kenny Hartley, Christopher Appleby, Vicki Bentley, Tammy Fulk, Michael Appleby, Debra Ellison, Denise Ballew and Lisa Rumon; great-grandchildren, Joseph DeMasi, Drew DeMasi, Susan Bentley, Rachel Ramey, Rebekah Bentley, Anna Bentley, Leah Bentley, Raymond Fulk, Melissa Medley, Samantha Medley and Sophie Appleby; a great-great-grandson, Hunter; nieces and nephews; many loving friends, her wonderful bridge group and the Foxcroft community. Evelyn G. Banasick, 74, of Everson Valley Road, Bullskin Township, passed away early Tuesday morning, Oct. 16, 2001, in her home. Evelyn was born March 10, 1927, in Leisenring, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Sasky Wardzella. A loving wife and mother, she was previously employed as a production scheduler with the former Modulus Corporation, Mt. Pleasant. Years ago, she also served as an office employee for Columbia Gas in Connellsville. Evelyn was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, a 1945 graduate of Connellsville High School and a graduate of Connellsville Business School. She enjoyed bowling at City and Yough Lanes and was a member of the Rainbow Bowling League. Evelyn is survived by her loving family: her husband of 50 years, Michael L. Banasick, whom she married June 16, 1951; her children, Shawn M. Banasick of Kent, Ohio and friend, Yoko and Erik F. Banasick and wife, Lisa (Allen), of West Newton. Shawn holds a Ph.D. and teaches geography at Kent State, Erik works at Groff Tractor & Equipment, New Stanton, and Lisa is employed by the Norwin School District. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Wardzella. Nancy Rose Bevilacqua, 80, of Avonmore, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Tarentum. She was born July 11, 1921, in Monarch, a daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline Carcelli Abbati. Mrs. Bevilacqua was a member of the St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore, the Altar Rosary Society and Fannie Sellins Lodge 47. She was employed by the Kiski Area School District for over 15 years as a cafeteria aide. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John Abbati and Joseph, James and Primo Pacy; four sisters, Anna Corsini, Linda Cimra, Mary Matarrano and Santina Punzarello. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Herman D. Bevilacqua; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Donna) Seben of Saltsburg; a son, Ronald J. Bevilacqua of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the KELLY L. Virginia (Bogman) Campbell, 78, of Vanport, formerly of Irwin, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in North Huntingdon. She was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Beaver, a daughter of the late Charles Gross and Blanche (Johnston) Bogman. She was a former member of the West Hempfield Presbyterian Church. She was a 1941 graduate of Beaver High School and attended Indiana State Teachers College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Campbell, on Dec. 12, 1988; and a daughter, Melissa Campbell. Survivors include three sons, Michael Campbell of Ephrata, Bryan Campbell of Irwin and Gregg Campbell of Simpsonville, S.C.; a brother, Charles Bogman of Peoria, Ariz.; a sister, Harriet Weidman of Hudson, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Andrew, Merry, Ryan, Matthew, Brooke and Jeremy Campbell. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church of Trauger, a graduate of Cumberland Township High School of Carmichael, a member of the Hilltop Quilters of Trauger, the Thursday Night Women's Card Club and was an avid bingo player. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Holopka of Pittsburgh and Charles Holopka of Long Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mary Kennedy of Pittsburgh and Helen Stevens of Patterson, N.J. The Rev. Arthur L. Garbin, on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, age 85, of Coraopolis, where he was chaplain to the provincial house of the Felician sisters. The Rev. Garbin was ordained in 1941 at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe by the late Bishop Hugh Boyle. This year marked the Rev. Garbin's 60th year of priesthood. The call to the priesthood was so subtle for him that he did not take it seriously until his last year of high school. He once said, ``God's call is not easily discernible. If the thought enters your mind, don't let go of it. Ask Christ to let you know what He really wants of you. What prompted me to go to the seminary? I really don't know for sure, but my mother's spiritual life and my involvement in the church, rectory and convent were much a part of my life." The Rev. Garbin was raised in Pittsburgh and studied at St. Peter School, St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary. He was retired but devoted his ministry to pastoral work throughout the diocese. He was parochial vicar of St. Vincent De Paul in Leisenring, St. Clare in Clairton, Madonna del Castello in Swissvale and St. Januarius in Renton. He served at St. Anthony Village as chaplain, was founding pastor of Our Lady of Loreto in Brookline and was pastor of St. Michael in Butler. The Rev. Garbin was district director of the Holy Name Society of Braddock/Swissvale, co-director of a Catholic radio program, notary and judge of the diocesan tribunal, director of the diocesan family planning office in Butler, a member of the diocesan school board and clergy pension board, director of the Ministry to Priests program, director of the Cardinal Wright Center and director of St. John Vianney Manor in Crafton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Emma Scavino Garbin, and his brother, Mario S. Garbin. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Charlotte Garbin; nieces, Jacqueline G. Leoni and Lisa Garbin Cornack; nephew, Mario S. Garbin Jr.; also grandnieces and -nephew. Inez Ruth Hazlett Hansen, 91, formerly of Jeannette, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, in Flowers Hospital, Dothan, Ala. She was born June 28, 1910, in Wilmerding, a daughter of the late John F. and Annie Elizabeth Eaton Hazlett. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jeannette, First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Ala., the Progressive Women's Club of Jeannette, daughters of the American Revolution and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Alumni Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rolph T. Hansen Sr., in 1980; a brother, John B. Hazlett; and two sisters, Alice McCarthy and Bessie Rhorkaste. She was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania Teachers College and was a school teacher for many years, having taught in East Pittsburgh, Manor, Lincoln Heights and Seneca Heights. During World War II, she served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross while living in Pennsylvania. She is survived by a son, Rolph T. Hansen Jr., and his wife, Jackie, of Jeannette; a daughter, Christine Wells and her husband, Clyde, of Dothan, Ala.; a sister, Evelyn H. Beamer of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Karen Hilton and husband, Kevin, of Charlotte, N.C., Claire Wells of Dothan, Ala., and Rolph T. Hansen III of Jeannette; a great-grandson, Collin Hilton of Charlotte N.C.; two brothers-in-law, William K. Hansen of Greensburg and Richard Rhorkaste of Irwin; two sisters-in-law, Betty Hazlett and Barbara Hazlett, both of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very dear friend, Dorothy Brown of Greensburg.
