Miriam Elizabeth (Parmer) Beltz, 92, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born May 20, 1909, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Elias W. and Dora (Tilbrook) Parmer. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Beltz, on Nov. 7, 1967; two brothers, Roy D. Palmer and Raymond E. Parmer; and two sisters, Dorothy M. Parmer and Mary Katherine (Parmer) Mattern. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. John D. (Dolores) Angus of Greensburg; her son, Robert J. Beltz and his wife, Rhona, of Latrobe; her sister, Edith Breen and husband, William, of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Carol Lynn Wood and husband, James, of East Liverpool, Ohio, John J. Angus and wife, Cheryl, of Latrobe, Glenn E. Beltz and wife, Danielle, of Goleta, Calif., David J. Beltz of Pittsburgh and Allison J. Butcher and husband, Gary, of Redmond, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren, Jennifer L. Wood and James ``Jimmy" Wood, both of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Chelsea R. Angus and John Jayson Angus, both of Latrobe. Friends will be received in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Unity Chapel, Unity Township, with the Rev. Dr. David B. Batchelder officiating. Interment will follow in Unity cemetery.

Herbert H. Bowman

Herbert H. ``Babe" Bowman, 67, of Latrobe, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a son of the late Robert and Lydia (Creighton) Bowman. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Teledyne Vasco, Latrobe. He was a member of the Latrobe United Methodist Church, Unity Township American Legion Post 982, Pleasant Unity VFW Post 8643, Cooperstown Vets and the Frontier Club of Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Robert Bowman; and a sister, Gerry Collins. He is survived by his wife, Gloria G. ``Dixie" (Snyder) Bowman; two children, Terri Davis and husband, Leroy, of Latrobe RD8 and Roger A. Bowman, at home; two grandchildren, Joshua and Tricia Davis; eight brothers and sisters, Mary Cumberland of Connellsville, Dorothy Hostetler of Mt. Pleasant, Kenneth Bowman and wife, Jean, of Wooddale, Margaret Barko of Connellsville, Braden ``Bud" Bowman and wife, Faye, of Dunbar, Clara ``Tamie" Barko and husband, Joel, of Ruffsdale, Melvin Bowman and wife, Joan, of Greensburg and Frances Barko and husband, Theo, of Greensburg; a brother-in-law, Albert Collins of Mt. Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bowman of Scottdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Dolores Bronder, 55, of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Blairsville, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Woodstock. She was born Dec. 8, 1945, a daughter of the late Edward and Cecelia Bronder. Mary enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. She was employed as a social worker for 32 years, most recently at Torrance State Hospital. She is survived by a daughter, Julia Kniedler of Woodstock; five sisters, C.C. English, Marjorie McTail, Genevieve Harman, Virginia Roth and Beth Mangan; a brother, Steve Bronder; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the JAMES F. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, Blairsville.

Russell E. Brown, 74, of Derry, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Aug. 2, 1927, on White's Hill (Youngwood), a son of the late Robert and Laura Marie Barkley Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Keister Brown; and a brother, Ron Brown. He is survived by his children, Russell E. Brown Jr. and wife, Jean, of Acme RD1, Shirley L. Niehenke and husband, Ray E., of Greensburg RD11, Randy L. Brown and wife, Vicky, of Crucible and Kristen D. Brown of Arona; five grandchildren, Ryan E. Niehenke of Michigan, Timothy Edward Brown and Kelly Lyn Brown, both of Crucible, and Britteny Elizabeth Brown and William Edward Brown, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Bill Brown and wife, Betty, of White's Hill, Don Brown of Unity Township and Walter Brown and wife, Nancy of Waterford. Russ was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and retired from Moore and Mooreford, Greensburg, after 38 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, a member of the NRA and was active in the Alwine Civic Center. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. Loretta K. Davis, 94, of Jeannette, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in her home. She was born April 26, 1907, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Adam and Ella Cook Kleist. She was a member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Jeannette, Teamsters Local 30 and the Order of the Amaranth 25 of Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Davis; and a sister, Charlotte Schmitt. She is survived by two  daughters, Janet Stewart of McCullough and Linda Ostrow and her husband, Joel, of Shaker Heights, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was born Dec. 22, 1931, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Helen Stewart Maguire. She was a member of The Church in Sutersville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; a son, Bruce; her brother, Benjamin; and two sisters, Barb Wetzler and Clara Randolph. She is survived by three sons, David C. of North Versailles, Benjamin F. and wife Susan of Smithton, and Jerry and his wife Joanne of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Linda) Defibaugh of Rimmersburg; two sisters, Val Hummert of North Huntingdon and Vera Hayes of Deltona Beach, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. She was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Westmoreland City, a daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (DelPin) Bevilacqua. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, Herminie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Surmacz, and a brother, Anthony Bevilacqua. Carolyn Watt Donnelly, age 90, on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene R. Donnelly; brothers, John C. and Charles E. Watt; and sister, Katherine W. Donnelly. She is survived by sisters, Virginia W. Rial of Ben Avon, Miriam W. Foster of Greensburg and Elizabeth Ann Krall of Ross; a brother, Daniel H. Watt of Lehighton, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Donnelly was retired from Suburban General Hospital, where she had worked in the business office for over 25 years. She was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Suburban General Hospital Auxiliary and North Borough's Women's Club. An avid golfer, one of her proudest achievements was the hole-in-one she made on the Mt. Odin Park Golf Course in Greensburg. Friends invited Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ORION C. Joseph L. Farling, 74, of Jeannette, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in his home. He was born May 21, 1927, in Grapeville, a son of the late John H. and Mabel L. Feld Farling. Prior to retirement, he had worked as a salesman. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Mae Gangle and June Matuke; and three brothers, Harry, Jack and Joe Farling. He is survived by his wife, Connie Farling of Mt. Lake Park, Md.; and a niece, Francine Hohn of Greensburg. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, with Pastor Dale W. Roddy officiating. Interment will be private.

Sister Aniceta Gibson
Greensburg

Sister Aniceta Gibson, 82, of the sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Caritas Christi, Greensburg. Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Crafton, a daughter of the late Merle and Catherine (Kuhn) Gibson, she was the eighth of 10 children. Sister Aniceta entered the sisters of Charity on Sept. 8, 1946, from Holy Family Parish, Latrobe. For nearly 20 years, she taught children in elementary schools in the Dioceses of Pittsburgh, Altoona-Johnstown and Phoenix. Later she became a licensed practical nurse and served the sisters in the infirmary from 1967 through 1987, when she began her part-time nursing ministry. In retirement, she resided with the sisters in Greensburg, except when, for health reasons, she moved to Mt. St. Macrina in Uniontown. In 1999, she returned to Greensburg and continued to delight people with her ready laughter. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. John L. (Gertrude) Schwab of Southbury, Conn.; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Edith Westerfer, Mary Jane Kattan, Sally Gibson, Bertha Gibson and Sister Rose Barbara Gibson, S.C.; and three brothers, Merle David Jr., William C. and Richard B. Gibson. She earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Seton Hill College in 1963 and received her practical nurse's license in 1972. Friends received Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 to 6:45 p.m. in Caritas Christi, 459 Mt. Thor Road, Greensburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Assumption, Caritas Christi. Burial will be in the sisters' cemetery, Seton Hill. Gabrielle Laflamme Harvey, 85, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001. She was born in Manchester, N.H., and attended LaMajoline School in Switzerland during her sophomore year in high school and became fluent in French. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1937. She, her husband Ed and her daughter Sue moved from Ohio to Mt. Lebanon in 1956, and she took graduate courses in French at the University of Pittsburgh in the late 1960s. Gabrielle was given a position as lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh and taught French there for 11 years, retiring in 1980. Upon the death of her husband, Edwin Wright Harvey, in 1981, she moved to Lawrenceville, Ga., to be near her family. Survivors include a daughter, Suzette Mancini and husband Robert; two sisters, Louise Muehlhausen and husband Robert, and Germain Dozois, all of Lawrenceville; and two grandchildren, Allison Mancini of Chicago, Ill., and Drew Mancini of Lawrenceville. Gabrielle was a devotee of the arts, including memberships with the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Ballet, the Atlanta Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. A private family service will be held Thursday. Homer Huhn Jr.

Homer Huhn Jr., 83, of Latrobe, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 3, 1918, in Uniontown, a son of the late Homer and Nellie (Hostetler) Huhn. Homer was a 1938 graduate of the former Hearst High School in Mt. Pleasant Twp. and attended Pennsylvania State University. He owned and operated a textile service firm in Mt. Pleasant until 1955, when he became tax clerk of Westmoreland County, where he established the county's first mechanized tax writing system. He became chief clerk and secretary to the Board of County Commissioners in 1964 and the board's administrative assistant in 1968. He also served as vice chairman of the Westmoreland County Municipal Water Authority, organized and served as president of the State Association of County Clerks and County Commissioners and was a member of the State Association of Secretaries. Homer was very active with the Benevolent and Protective Order of EIks, beginning with his initiation into the Mt. Pleasant B.P.O.E. Lodge 868 in 1941, being elected Exalted Ruler of the lodge in 1952, serving as trustee until 1955 and then lodge secretary for 11 years. He then became active in the Pennsylvania State Elks Association, serving as district treasurer, district president and chairman of the District Advisory Committee. He was elected president of the Pennsylvania State Elks Association in 1964 and became State Association secretary in 1966. In 1971, Homer was named to the position of grand secretary of the National Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, serving over 1.6 million members. He continued in that function until 1977, when he was elected leader of the order, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America. Locally, Homer was a member of the Charter Oak United Methodist Church, Unity Twp., Marion Lodge 562, F&AM in Scottdale and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 386. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Mertz. He is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Josephine (Hydock) Huhn; a brother, Herman Huhn and his wife Louise of Latrobe; three sisters, Ella Mae Tepper and her husband Tom of Latrobe, Mable Watson and her husband Charles of Toms River, N.J., and Roberta Elleard of Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, the Rev. Eleanor L. Leacock Mansfield Johnson, 83, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born July 4, 1918, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Clyde Leacock and Pearl Eldora Boggs Mansfield. She was a member of the Greensburg Church of the Brethren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard H. Johnson; a daughter, Helen Louise Johnson; a brother, Glenn Leacock; and a sister, Betty Mansfield Miller. Surviving are two  daughters, Yvonne Berta of Liberty Borough and Susan Dworek of Penn; a son, James H. Johnson of North Versailles; nine grandchildren, Jessica Richardson, Erika, Bree and Jeff Johnson, Ronald, David, Howard and Barry Berta and Bonna Pearson; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James Mansfield of Greensburg; and a sister, Evelyn Eves of Georgia. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOSEPH F. Lisa J. Johnson, 40, of Tarrs, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in her residence. Born April 6, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, she was a daughter of Donald Springer and the late June (Pfoutz) Springer. She was the owner/operator of Lisa's Day Care Service. She was a member and organist of Center Bethel Church of God. She was a graduate of Southmoreland High School, class of 1979, attended Seton Hill College, Greensburg, and graduated from Westmoreland County Community College, class of 1984. Lisa was a leader of the Sunshine 4-H Club and Laurel Ridge Girl Scouts. In addition to her  Father, Donald Springer and his wife, Betty Lee, of Dawsonville, Ga., she is survived by her husband of 15 years, Douglas Johnson; two  daughters, Lindsey Johnson and Lizabeth Schomer, both at home; two brothers, Earl Springer and wife, Joan, of Hunker and Robert Bielecki and wife, Holly, of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Marie ``Kitty" Loughner and husband, Christopher, of Tarrs, and Sherry Cottom of Everson; two aunts, Virginia Pfoutz of Tarrs and Grace Mahokey of Mt. Pleasant; and her  Father- and mother-in-law, the Rev. Dewayne and Mrs. Ardith Johnson of Kersey, Pa. She was preceded in death by her mother, June (Pfoutz) Springer, in 1978.
