Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Alice W. Harty

CASCADE - Alice Winona Harty, 89, formerly of 14409 Pennersville Road, and Michaux Manor Living Center in South Mountain, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Caledonia Manor Nursing Home in Fayetteville, Pa.

Born March 23, 1908, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Iva E. Smith Sachs.

Her husband, Raymond A. Harty, died in 1988. They were married in March 1928.

She was employed by J.C. Penney in Waynesboro. She then worked as an inspector for Bea and Bie Knitting Mill in Cascade and Waynesboro Knitting Mill.

She was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ in Highfield and the church guild.

She also was a member of Blue Ridge Summit Fire Co. Auxiliary, where she served as president in 1954 and 1955; and National AARP.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda A. Rumbaugh of Cascade; one son, Lowell E. Harty of Cascade; one brother, Austin P. Sachs of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Glen Sachs.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Daniel H. Kelchner will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Ida M. Gruver

CARLISLE, Pa. - Ida Mae Gruver, 73, of 621 N. Pitt St., and formerly of 280 E. Washington St., Chambersburg, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Carlisle Hospital in Carlisle.

Born Sept. 12, 1924, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Estella Hollingshead Barnhart.

Her husband, Elmer B. Gruver, died in 1984.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Chambersburg Bible Church in Chambersburg.

She is survived by three  daughters, Barbara E. Rodgers of Carlisle, Susan D. Pettit of Chambersburg, and Marjorie R. Dougherty of Enola, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, William J. Gruver.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John R. Springer will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Donald H. Mummert

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Donald H. Mummert, 64, of 414 E. Baltimore St., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 6, 1933, in Greencastle, he was the son of Hubert S. Mummert of Quincy Home and the late Catherine Benchoff Mummert.

He attended Greencastle schools and received his general equivalency diploma.

He retired in 1983, after 30 years of service as a federal employee, having worked at Letterkenny and Fort Ritchie/Site R, Pentagon and the National Bureau of Standards.

He was a member of Webster Mill Free Brethren Church. Earlier, he attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Greencastle.

He was a member of Rescue Hose Co., Greencastle; Marion Fire Co. in Marion, Pa.; State Fire Police Association; a school policeman for the Greencastle-Antrim School District; an R-2 School Bus Driver, elected two terms as constable in Greencastle; licensed real estate agent in the county; a Sunday school teacher; served eight years in the Army reserve; state and county constable associations; FOP and other law enforcement agencies; Dollywood ambassador. He appeared in Country Weekly Magazine with Kitty Wells and in an Abilene Boot advertisement.

In addition to his  Father, he is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Fix Mummert; two  daughters, Linda Kay Greenawalt of Newburg, Pa., and Tamara Mummert of Scotland, Pa.; one son, D. Curtis Mummert of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Louise Hummer of Seiversville, Tenn.; three brothers, Richard Mummert of Maugansville, Dennis Mummert of Smithsburg and David Mummert of Sleepy Creek, W.Va.; one grandson; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Bradley.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, St. Thomas, Pa. Brother Chalmer Hann, the Rev. Michael T. Myers, Brother Bill Garland and the Rev. John Weyman will officiate. Burial will be in Montgomery Brethren-In-Christ Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family also will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Rescue Fire Co., Building Fund, Greencastle, Pa. 17225; or to Marion Fire Co., 21 Colorado St., Marion, Pa. 17235.

Mildred K. Swope

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Mildred Kohler Swope, 97, of McConnellsburg, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Nov. 6, 1900, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Clara Nymburg Kohler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl B. Swope, in 1965.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church, McConnellsburg.

She was a member of Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary.

She is survived by two  daughters, Sara S. Huston of Harrisonville, Pa. and Carol S. Mellott of McConnellsburg; one sister, Eleanore Miller of Batavia, N.Y.; one granddaughter; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Kohler, Maurice Kohler, Walter Kohler and Dr. C. William Kohler.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon Presbyterian Cemetery, West Mifflin, Pa.

Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fulton County Medical Center, Extended Care, c/o Donna Locke, McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Ethel B. Reamer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ethel B. Reamer, 102, of 201 Franklin Farm Lane, and formerly of 2414 Leafmore Road, Chambersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Guilford Township, Pa.

Born Nov. 1, 1895, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Nancy Lutz Eckenrode.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Harvey Reamer, in 1959.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by three  daughters, Viola M. Runyon of Chambersburg, Pearl R. Hartzell of Fayetteville, Pa., and Fern Dixon of Scotland, Pa.; one son, Russell Reamer of Pleasant Hall, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sons, Wilbur Reamer, George Reamer, Roy Reamer and Elmer Reamer; and one brother, Clarence Eckenrode.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John Morrison and the Rev. John Fuller will officiate. Burial will be in Coble Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.

Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church, 3001 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Genevieve T. Weyer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Genevieve T. Weyer, 70, of 640 Mickeys Inn Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 18, 1927, in Kearney, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Myra Fleck Tenley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis M. Weyer, in 1986.

She retired from Knouse Foods, Chambersburg, as a laborer, in 1994 after more than 20 years of service.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by two  daughters, Robin Gearhart and Heidi I. Weyer, both of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sons, Francis G. Weyer and Matthew S. Weyer, both of Chambersburg; four sisters, Margaret R. Garnes of Everett, Pa., Sarah E. Shadle of Chambersburg, Myra S. Macklewicz of Warren, Mich., and Laurel T. Miller of Greencastle, Pa.; seven brothers, Kenneth C. Tenley of Bedford, Pa., Warren R. Tenley of Somerset, Pa., Thomas W. Tenley of Chambersburg, James L. Tenley of New Enterprise, Pa.; Allen J. Tenley, David M. Tenley and Samuel W. Tenley, all of Riddlesburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. H. Clayton Moyer will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The viewing will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.

Wayne C. Seville

BIG COVE TANNERY, Pa. - Wayne C. Seville, 71, of HCR 80, Box 216, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Hollidaysburg, Pa.

Born April 4, 1926, in Cito, Pa., he was the son of the late Levi and Mamie Feagley Seville.

He retired in 1981 from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.

He was a member of Laurel Ridge Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery.

He was a member of Deatrich-Brechbill American Legion Post, St. Thomas, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Martha B. Bivens Seville, whom he married in July 1948; three  daughters, Vonnie Crouse of Chambersburg, Linda Mellott of Big Cove Tannery and Nancy Welch of Beaver Creek, Ohio; one son, Jeffrey W. Seville of Big Cove Tannery; two sisters, Violet Swadley of Needmore, Pa., and Doris Pittman of McConnellsburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Seville and Delmar Seville.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Doug Poffenberger and the Rev. Dennis Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in Laurel Ridge Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday two hours prior to the service.

Ioannis E. Panagos

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Ioannis E. "John" Panagos, 60, of 100 E. King St., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 4, 1937, in Neohorion, Greece, he was the son of the late Efthimeos G. and Vasiliki Panagos Panagos.

For the last 25 years, he was the owner of The Pizza House, Shippensburg.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Camp Hill, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Papaioannou Panagos; one daughter, Vasiliki F. "Viki" Hronis of Chambersburg; one son, Efthimeos J. "Tim" Panagos of Shippensburg; one sister, Evangelia F. Letsas of Harrisburg, Pa.; one grandson; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at noon at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill. The Rev. George Daskalakis will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Greene Township, Pa.

Viewing will be at the cathedral Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, Pa. 17011.

Arrangements are by Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg.
